We bought this for my 12 month old little boy for Christmas this year and it has been a big hit! He learned to climb the rock wall by himself after having help only a handful of times. He can climb, turn around, and slide down all by himself. And he loves to push balls (included) down the slide too. We use it indoors with a play mat under it for now but plan to move it outdoors in the spring. It's great for a one year old...with close supervision, of course. Definitely worth the money!

My son loves it. Me on the other hand... not so much. Im actually kinda scared when he plays on it and I sit and watch him like a hawk. When we got it, it was missing the bottom assembly bar thing so I called the company and it was here before we knew it. No complaints or anything, which is a BIG + for me [that a company really responds and helps]
Well, since we put that bottom bar on (I had to use a rubber hammer to knock it into place cause I just couldnt get it to snap in) it seems like it is bowed out. Like the bottom is wider than the top, which makes it a little unstable. Also, the big hole on the side is kinda dangerous with it being bowed like that and my boy, being the brave little man he is, has tipped it twice. The first time I thought he was climbing on it, the second I just couldnt get over to him fast enough. Put a pretty carpet burn on his head lol. [I havent seen him stick his head through there like that since...] He does love it and throws a fit if he sees it outside in the yard and not on the deck or inside, so I still let him play with it. The making of it could have been stronger but its really cute and fun. Just stay close and watch out about the tipping over thing...

Comments about Step2 All-Star Sports Climber:

We set up a play room in our basement. Our daughter loves it, but wanted a slide after visiting a friend who had one. So we found this. Because it has no cover, she is able to use it til she reaches the weight limit with out banging her head. Because it has a flat area between where you climb up to the slide, she has enough room to stand up and then sit (she is 18months). This prevents her from falling down the slide and also the back. It is simply perfect! We plan to move it outside when the weather is nicer, but until then, its perfect and she LOVES to play on it. She likes that she can kick the ball under it, and the circle up top, she can poke her head through and say HELLO. We are very pleased with this item and will possibly buy another later on for outside to keep the one downstairs. Most of the holes are predrilled. THERE ARE 2 THAT WERENT. We used some elbow grease and solved that problem. So you wont need a drill if your able to push hard enough to get a screw through the plastic.

My toddler loves it, but the product requires you to get an item that most regular people don't just have lying around - a 4" piece of wood. I'm surprised people aren't commenting on this. I would think they would supply this item with the packaging, and I was very disappointed that I needed more than just the standard tools to assemble the product.

Gerard M: The plastic will fade in color over time, you will get blown dust into grooves over time, even the screws (if there are any--we bought this as a gift, but used very similar items from the same company when our own children were small) will get rust or corrosion over time.

BUT... winter outside should have no more effect on it than rainy days do. The colors will eventually fade a little from sunlight. You WILL want to wash with a quick wipedown of soapy water and rinse with the garden hose, though, periodically. Anyway, it is well built and our old version withstood several winters until our kids outgrew it, and we gave it away to another family with young children. Your children will love it, and it is small enough not to scare YOU too much about them climbing on it. Good luck. I envy you having children young enough to use this. P.S. Don't forget to video and audio record conversations with them while they are young. You will never regret it.

Michelle M: I do not leave outside in the winter so not sure if it would get damaged. I have a step 2 house and a little tykes table made of same material that is left outside all year and has been weathered and even got water locked into areas and has caused some cracks to the items. Though those items are still in working order I do not want to take a chance with this one. Jan 20, 2014

Ali P asked: We are trying to assemble this product and got to the step of using the screws to secure the ladder and slide portions to the base. The problem: there are no holes to put the screws in unless we drill our own. Did anyone else have this issue? From the assembly pictures it looks like there should be designated holes right on top, but there aren't. Any advice would be appreciated - not sure if this is standard or just a flaw in the one we have. Thanks! Dec 20, 2013

Step2Staff: Our screws are self tapping screws that are able to go through the plastic. You may need to start them with a hammer. Please follow the instructions or find the indents in the plastic to line up the screws correctly. We do this in an effort to ensure that no shavings inadvertently are left over in the box as a result of pre-drilling. These shavings could pose a choking hazard to little ones. Dec 20, 2013

A shopper asked: I bought this item at a garage sale and now need to remove the slide so it will fit it in my car for a trip to the granddaughter's house. There are two screws, but the nut or whatever holds the back of the screw in place is inside the plastic unit. If I unscrew the screw, will I be able to re-assemble the slide? Jun 1, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Nick S: If I recall, there is no nut holding the screws in place. The screws holding on the slide are actually drilled into the plastic, similar to wood screws into a wall. If you unscrew them, I would think you can probably just drill them back in. They might not be as tight though. You could always get a slightly bigger screw if necessary. So to answer your question, yes, I think you'll be able to re-assemble easily. Jun 3, 2013

Holly W: Unfortunately I bought this slide for my nephew and wasn't there to see how it's assembled. However, considering you have to assemble it when you first receive a new one, I would imagine that it should be relatively easy to reassemble one that you have had to take apart. Good luck!
