My daughter (15 months) loves this kitchen. I like that you can pick green or red to go with your home decor. She plays with the phone and stove a lot. I wish there were more sounds, but I didn't want to get the larger one. Only two things I wish were different. The refrigerator door doesn't stay shut very well and the oven door stays closed too well, it takes some elbow grease to get it open. That could just be the case with mine. I assembled it during her nap (in 1 hour). Definitly use an electric screw driver. I bought more accessories to go with it because it has the capacity to hold more. It stands up well on tile and carpet and is very sturdy. I will be keeping this for a long time. I feel comfotable with the plastic curved edges opposed to wood ones with sharp edges and it's light enough to move from room to room. This kitchen is worth it, I would recommend this to a friend.

I purchased this kitchen recently for my family daycare to replace a very old Step 2 kitchen that I had. I have infants and toddlers up to age 3 and thought they would love this kitchen. Today is the third day of use. I don't think the oven door will last, since the 2 yr. olds tend to kneel on it once they open it. The 10 mo. old opens the cupboard and refrigerator doors and pushes on them so hard that I'm afraid they won't last long either. The railing in front of the dish rack is flimsy and a few good tugs will probably break it. The kids do love the sounds the burner and phone makes. I had a lot of play food and accessories already, so that makes it more fun for the kids. This kitchen is not nearly as sturdy as the old one I had, but it is more interesting to the kids. I found the storage to be adequate.

My 18 month old granddaughter loves this kitchen. She likes putting things into the cabinets. She cannot reach the microwave yet, but loves the sounds that the pots make on the stove.
We are having an issue with the play phone. I now have THREE that do not work! (I have tried New batteries & different batteries) All 3 phones are barely audible when held close. The refrigerator door is VERY hard to open and close even after I followed your customer service recommendations. This was too hard to assemble to take apart and return.

I am trying to assemble the kitchen but there are no holes for the screws to go in, is that a defect in the product or is that the way it is? What should I do? Drill inside the plastic? I can't get the screws in with a simple screwdriver.
    Moria L on Oct 11, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Our screws are self tapping screws that are able to go through the plastic. You may need to start them with a hammer. Please follow the instructions or find the indents in the plastic to line up the screws correctly. We do this in an effort to ensure that no shavings inadvertently are left over in the box as a result of pre-drilling. These shavings could pose a choking hazard to little ones.
Does the microwave on the custom 2 kitchen make cooking noises, or just beep? I am looking at the custom 2 and the new traditions kitchen I see the new traditions makes popcorn popping and cooking noises and beeping when you press buttons right? what happen the custom 2?
    felecia f on Nov 9, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Numbers on pad beep like your putting in the cooking time, but there is also a popcorn button that makes sounds like its cooking popcorn and another button that makes sounds like the microwave is working and then it beeps at the end like your food is ready. These buttons makes the microwave very realistic.
My kids are a small 7 year old and a 5 year old. Would this kitchen work for them size-wise, or would it be way too small?
    Julie L on Dec 3, 2013
BEST ANSWER: We bought it for our two year old, but our five year old loves it. They both play with it. We've had extended family up to age 9 play with it, so I think it would serve your purpose. (It is about 3' 1/2" -4' tall.)
Does this kitchens microwave and phone make any noise?
amanda lisk on Dec 2, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the microwave and phone both have a place for a battery and do make noises. The phone beeps when numbers are pressed and rings when another button is pressed. The microwave makes a humming "cooking" noise and also beeps when the numbers are pressed. There are also 2 pots that come with the kitchen set that when placed on the burner makes a sizzling frying sound and the other a boiling water sound. My kids love this kitchen!
    Does water dispense from faucet?
    A shopper on Jan 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No, it doesn't . The burner makes noise, depending what pan/pot you set on top, and the microwave has buttons that beep. It also comes with a phone that makes sounds.
How deep is the inside of the microwave? Also, how wide? Do the plates that come with this fit inside so you can still shut the door? What is the diameter of the plates that come with this kitchen?
    Julie L on Dec 3, 2013
BEST ANSWER: The inside of the microwave is roughly 6"W x 4.5"D. The plates are a little over 5.25 in diameter. The cool thing is that the microwave door itself is hollowed out (for lack of a better word) so even though they don't look like they would fit, you can close the door with the plate inside because of the additional 1.5" of space. Hope that helps!
Do the burners turn red or light up when you turn knobs or just make noise?
amanda lisk on Nov 14, 2013
BEST ANSWER: To cause the burners to make noise all you need to do is set the pots on the burners. The design in the bottom of the pot pushes a small button in the groove of the burner and makes a sizzling or boiling sound. While the pots on are on the burners, red lights in the burners flash/blink. The knobs click when you turn them but are not electronically linked.
I am considering the Lifestyle Custom and Lifestyle Dream Kitchens - can you tell me how these compare?
    A shopper on Apr 26, 2013
BEST ANSWER: This kitchen was so easy to put together just taking about 20 min. and I find it to be the best quality. My 1 year old daughter lives the sounds the microwave makes. Buy it online cause when researching I found if you buy it in store the microwave comes with just stickers and no working buttons, but you can go on steps website and buy the piece to add on for sound. Why not buy it online pay s couple dollars more to have the cutest kitchen all set to go delivered to your door. Very impressed and would recommend! The size is perfect!
I put batteries in the phone, but nothing happens! is the phone supposed to do something, is there a fault?
    mary c on Jan 13, 2014
BEST ANSWER: not sure if you have a faulty phone, but I know that this phone is supposed to be VERY quiet... I read about this before I bought it, and saw other people complaining that the phone is not loud enough to hear. But I think its kind of nice to have a toy that isn't super loud!
Do all the white cabinets/drawers open? Thanks!
    A shopper on Aug 16, 2013
BEST ANSWER: unfortunately no. Only 2 out of the 3 open. The "drawer" underneath the sink on the left hand side of the kitchen is a sticker only. I have actually wondered why this sticker couldn't have been an actual drawer, since the sink above it is extremely shallow (like 1 inch). I wish either the sticker could be a drawer, or the sink could be deeper. However the white rectangle cabinet below the sticker and white drawer underneath the fridge both open. My only complaint is the that white drawer under the fridge can be pulled all the way out and isn't fixed in, so anything in there will surely spill out once a little one pulls it open. Hope this helps!
Is the very top of this kitchen flat, where you could place maybe a small basket to hold accessories or play food? I can't tell from the pictures if there is actually enough surface on the very top where you could do that.
    AngelaR on Dec 9, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the top is flat, but it's not large enough to place food because the fridge door opens on the only area you could do so. There is a food storage bin on the bottom right as well as the large white cupboard door and stove and fridge to store food/dishes in. The pull out drawer under the fridge is only good for play silverware - it's pretty small. We store food in the extra shopping cart we purchased.
Hi, I'm interested in the Custom Kitchen. But I wondered, is it easy to disassemble it when needed (say, moving)?
    Annie C on Jun 1, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I never tried taking it apart. I don't know if it would be a problem or not.
I bought this item used and I don't know how to replace the batteries? Where do they go?

We've ordered the step2 lifestyle custom kitchen from amazon. The first box we got didn't have the microwave button panel and we returned it and got a replacement. The 2nd one also didn't have the microwave button panel so we are returning it. In both the cases, we got a decal which is not why I purchased the product for. I would like to order the same product from step2 website this time. But I want to make sure that I will receive the microwave button panel instead of the decal. Can someone from the step2 team answer my query?
    Aruna on Jul 20, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The LifeStyle Custom Kitchen II™ from Step2.com will come with an electronic stovetop burner, electronic microwave an electronic phone. The oven does not come with an electronic panel.
I lost the Manual. How do I change the batteries?

    Hi,
Just wondering if I have to take the top off to replace the battery in the burner or does it lift off from the top?

    thanks
    Angela B on Apr 7, 2014
BEST ANSWER: If you look at the burner you will see two holes that contain philips screws. Loosen them and the burner will lift off and the batteries are right there.
I need to anchor this kitchen to the wall for baby proofing. Any suggestions?

Where do the batteries go to make the pot and pan sounds?
    A shopper on Nov 1, 2013
BEST ANSWER: There is a battery compartment inside the stove burner. When the pot and pan sit atop the stove, the electronic sounds will activate.

The Amazon listing or this kitchen says it takes two AAA batteries, one of the Amazon reviews says it takes 2 AA and 2 AAA. This listing says 6 AA... WHICH IS IT?
    Christie L on May 25, 2013
BEST ANSWER: 2AAA in the phone and 2AAA in the microwave. The stovetop also takes 2 batteries but for some reason I'm think they were AA. Sorry I'm not 100% sure, we have had this kitchen almost a year and haven't replaced the batteries yet.
