We purchased this deluxe kitchen as the big "Santa" present for our 18-month-old daughter. I can't wait to play with her - this is truly a great toy! She's going to love all the appliance buttons & sounds. I put it together by myself in under 2 hours. It was one of the easiest things I've ever assembled. The only problem I had was with the dishrack when fastening it onto the top cabinets. I couldn't get the plastic fasteners pushed in all the way and it was very awkward to do with the plastic railing in the way. But I have them far enough in so that my husband can do it when he gets home. All of the holes lined up nicely when inserting screws. I did put the window decals on prior to assembly, and I'm glad I did! It would have been a little harder to line them up with the dishrack railing in the way. I was very impressed with the instructions. They were very easy to understand, and I also viewed the online assembly demo. Was pleasantly surprised to find extra screws and fasteners. Rare in this world of assembly-required stuff! The included pots, pans, dishes and food are great. We have purchased additional food - and it appears that there is plenty of storage space. This will be a toy to last for years. Will definitely buy more Step2 toys in the future. BRAVO!

My grandaughter LOVES it! It would have broken my heart if we had to send it back after she saw it. The oven door does not close, looking for fix to be sent. Cupboard doors under sink have an inch gap between them. It is difficult to open refrigerator, and microwave, but I guess that is good since the oven doesn't close! The sprayer hose is to long, but is glued into place so I didn't want to mess with it. I guess these are all little things since she is enjoying it so much.

Comments about Step2 LifeStyle™ Deluxe Kitchen:

Our kids (ages 2 and 3.5) LOVE this. There is plenty of room for them both to play with the kitchen and not get in the way of each other. Kitchen is VERY durable and won't tip easily...They had a few "food" items already, but if you don't have some plan on buying some plastic food for the kitchen. Assembly time should be about 2 hours and some pieces are quite difficult to assemble if you have big hands. I would definitely recommend an adult assistant, if possible. Only had one screw that wouldn't go in the whole way, but wasn't a big deal at all. Would have been nice if stickers had come on the product, but not a big deal overall. This product appears as if it will endure YEARS of active play and was a great investment. We've only been using it about a week, but are COMPLETELY satisfied.

My daughter loves her kitchen. She's always cooking something of for me and daddy! It took a while for us to put together but we enjoyed doing it. There were no holes so you had to drill your own. Some of the doors are a little hard for her to open and close. You kind of have to force them but she has gotten better with it over time. She has had this kitchen set for almost 2 years now and it's still in good condition.

Most importantly my kids who are two and one are loving this. To a more discerning adult eye it takes a lot of time to assemble, is a kind of boring color scheme and is made poorly in some ways ie the drawers pop out when you open them. But there is a lot to keep busy with and I'm happy I bought it.

Step2.com Store asked: Why did you choose this?
annette b: I bought this kitche when my niece was 1 1/2 and she's been playing with it since then. At the time she just loved opening and closing the doors and draws and moving dishes and foods around. Now that she's 3 1/2, she plays with it even more. That's the first toy her friends go running to when they come into the house. They love it. I just bought it for my friends two year old twins(boy and girl) and know they're going to have a blast with it. Oct 1, 2014

Janine G: Looked around at alot at kitchens. I thought this was colorful with the decals and various sounds. However, the plastic is very bulky and doesn't fit well together making the doors (fridge, microwave) difficult to really open and close. So it was somewhat disappointing in retrospect. Dec 2, 2013

I bought this Kitchen online as it was the most convenient (very large) to obtain it and the cheapest as well. In case of a problem (not the case here) I would have expected Step 2 to have it picked up (again, large boxes). Other than that, it's a very nice kitchen.

Chris F asked: Im looking for a kitchen that has burners that light up? Does this do this or can you recommend one that does? Jul 26, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Jamie A: Not sure why you are getting conflicting answers but I will clarify. There are two burners. The back burner is simply a sticker that looks like a burner and it does not light up, nor does it make noise. The front burner is plastic with ridges and there are two tiny buttons in between the ridges that when a certain pot or pan is placed on the burner, it will make a boiling or sizzling noise (depending on which button is pushed by either the pot or the pan) and the burner DOES light up at the same time. The entire burner itself does not light up, nor does it "glow". It just blinks while it makes the noise, which lasts for about 5-10 seconds, and then it stops. Hope that answers your question more thoroughly. Aug 23, 2013

paula m: Yes they light up and you also get the sound like boiling water when you have a pot over the burner. I bought this for my granddaughter when she was just 2 1/2 years old, she is 4 and still plays with it everyday, her little brother who is 2 loves it also- I highly recommend getting this kitchen- when their friends come over to play- they head to the kitchen.........Best purchase I have made for them. Julia D: This is a great kitchen. The front burner lights up and makes frying and boiling sounds (when you use the enclosed pots and pans. The microwave and oven have beeping buttons and the phone also makes sounds. There is also a small light above the sink. My daughter loves this! Jul 29, 2013

Deanna D: No the burners don't light up. In my 25 years of buying kids & grandkids toys I have never seen one that does. This one does just about everything else. Two years later he still plays with it almost daily. You just cant beat it. Jul 29, 2013

A shopper asked: does anyone know about the light on this kitchen does it have a light bulb? I saw a place on the back where it can be plugged in but it requires 4 AA batteries for the light? Dec 2, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Kathryn W: I'm not sure what type of bulb is used for the light but it only runs on batteries. There is no plug for any of the sounds or the light over the sink. My daughter has been using her kitchen for almost a year, though, and we haven't had to replace any of the batteries or the bulb in the light. Also, just a recommendation: this does take a LOT of batteries. My husband assembled this for Christmas last year, and I remember him saying the kitchen needed several batteries in several different places to power the sounds for the microwave, oven, and dishwasher, so make sure you're stocked up on AAs and perhaps Cs or Ds. Thankfully we have different types on hand for the various toys we used to own that needed Cs or Ds, but just in case, get a pack of each so you're not stuck on Christmas Eve. :) And my daughter at 4 years old still loves this kitchen set, so it's definitely worth every penny. Hope that helps! Dec 2, 2013

Tad L: Unless new models have plug in, the light runs on two AA batteries and is an LED light. It is affixed by two phillips head screws over the sink. Keep that in mind when you need to change the batteries. As much dailly use as it gets I an amazed we've only had to change batts 3x since 2011. Dec 4, 2013
Reply to Tad Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Mary P: As far as I know it requires batteries to work and cannot be plugged in, however even when working don't expect a lot of light. It is more for the effect than anything. Dec 4, 2013

brian g: Maybe for the 5-year-old, but I wouldn't expect most 7-year-olds to have a lot of fun with this set. It would depend on how "real" the older child wanted their kitchen to appear. Everything on this kitchen is plastic, the doors don't open or close smoothly at all, and the drawers and openings are relatively small for such a large piece overall. Our child liked this set at 2, but I would not buy this set again. I think it is very nice compared to the other plastic kitchen sets on the market, but if given a second chance, I would buy one of the wooden (or particle board) sets instead. The doors, drawers, and openings are much larger and easier to access/use. Everything opens and closes much more smoothly. Everything has a more "real" look and feel to it on those sets. My child loves playing with the wood kitchen sets at his grandparents house at age 3, but hardly even looks at this set anymore. Again, this is a very nice set and I like it better than any of the other plastic sets I have seen. It is cheaper to buy than a comparable wooden kitchen set. But my recommendation for a parent that thinks this will be a long-term play set for their child is to spend the extra money and get one of the more "heavy duty" wooden kitchen sets instead. I hope this helps! Dec 2, 2013

Lisa C asked: Will a plate or a pot/pan lay flat in the oven so that food can be "cooked" in the oven? How deep is the oven? Nov 18, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Jennifer B: It is 8 inches deep and 7-1/4 inches wide. All of my kids' toy pots, pans, and plates fit with room to spare - even the "large" frying pans with handles. There is room on the shelf and on the floor of the oven, so they can "cook" multiple dishes at once. Nov 19, 2013

Kevin B: The oven is 8 inches deep, 7 inches wide and 9 inches tall with a removeable shelf in the middle.

Yes most of the pots and pans will fit in the oven. We got extras so I lost track of which ones are include with the kitchen.

WAYNE K: I have a 3 year old daughter and a 21 month old son and they both love this kitchen! They don't mind the color and it blends in nicely in the house as opposed to pink/purple. Just pick up some play food to enhance the experience! Apr 1, 2013

Deanna D: She will not care about the color. Only the amount of things to do and noises it makes. That is what keeps kids entertained. She will love it and have many hours of fun with friends that can play with her. I also bought the table and chairs, dishes, pots & pans and a lot of food to go with it. When he cooks, he can set the table and we sit down to eat his creation. ....just like the grownups do. .....If this is for a birthday.........ask other guest (who never know what to buy) to buy dishes, pots & pans and food to go with it, she will love it. Hope this helps you out. Apr 2, 2013

Rosalie O asked: where do the batteries go? May 18, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Joseph S: Batteries go behind all of the small remote looking boxes that go into the kitchen. It has two that go where dish washer and oven. The white one above the sink is the light need batteries. Lastly the burner need batteries. I don't remember how that went in. I am just going off my memory. But it is not hard. You just need to put them in before you put it together. May 19, 2014

A shopper asked: Can anyone share with me the specifics of the electronic features of this kitchen? I know one of the stove lights up and makes sizzling sound. How about the others? i.e. microwave, oven.. to the buttons beep as you press them? Nov 2, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (1)
Andrea J: The electronic sounds are a really funny addition! The dishwasher numbers make noise and there's a washing sound plus three other noises, the microwave numbers beep and there are 4 other microwave sounds (one is popcorn, one is a cooking sound), the stove numbers beep and also has 4 other sounds, and then one burner on the stove top makes a boiling sound when a pot is put on top of it, and the same burner makes a sizzling noise when a skillet is placed on it. (The skillet and pot come with the set). Hope this helped a bit. Nov 4, 2013

Vicki D: The stove is the only item that lights up and makes a sound. The buttons on the cell phones beep as you press them. This kitchen is the best buy I have made. I bought this two years ago, and my kids are now 3 1/2 years old, and they still play with this every day. This kitchen is very durable, and won't tip over. They cannot pull it apart. Just an overall great buy. Nov 4, 2013

Tracy M: The microwave, oven and dishawasher all make beeping sounds as you push the buttons and even have working electronic sounds like it's "going" or "on". My kids have loved this kitchen - we've had it for two years and no problems at all! Nov 4, 2013
