I saw this online and fell in love with it! When it finally arrived, I was more excited then my 2 year old! He loves it. My husband had no issues with assembly, except our son kept trying to help. I climb in with him to read him his stories and he falls asleep without a problem. I love the fact that without a box spring it sits nice and low inside the frame to keep him from falling out. And trust me my son can move in his sleep! He practically does 180s! We have had it for a week and he is nice and safe in it. The storage is FANTASTIC! I put his new blankets and box of diapers under there, and he can still crawl around happily and play! The rough surface is not so bad. My son has never said ouch, and when I get out of the bed, it bothers me just a bit, but I'm getting used to it. We call it the CASTLE BED-it is much bigger than you expect it to be, but worth it! I can see him sleeping in this for a long time!

We bought this bed for our son, one of triplets, when we were splitting the kids into seperate rooms and giving them big kid beds over Christmas of 2010. We had to buy one bed, and we chose to buy this one and give it to our son because he's a climber (he was climbing before walking) and we knew he'd love the hideout underneath. I was in love with it and the concept immediately, and where I'm a die-hard Step2 fan, I figured it would be a bed he could use until he was 8-10, so the price wasn't that big a deal. He does have the smallest bedroom though, and the bed takes up a substantial amount of space.
Set up was easy, what you'd expect with Step2 products; mostly popping plastic pieces together and a few screws. You will need to buy a bunky board to put the mattress on, which they don't mention, and the inside is a little rough. I am short, 5'4" and fat, and changing the sheets is nearly impossible for me. (He vomited in the bed once, and it was a HUGE pain to clean up; had to take the whole mattress out, clean IT, clean the bunky board, the bed itself, the ladder rungs, one of the doors, the inside underneath the storage area, and the carpet where it dripped through.) I am too heavy to climb into bed with him, the ladder rungs smoosh in (cause I'm fat), and because I'm short I can't even lean over the side to give him a kiss.
Now that we've had it for several months, it's starting to show a fair amount of wear... the doors no longer close all the way, and it's becoming more unstable the more we move it. I wish we'd just bought him a regular bed, or bunk beds, or one of those beds with the dresser and stuff attached; any of them would have been a much wiser investment.

Comments about Step2 LifeStyle™ Twin Bed:
I give the bed a 4 star rating because its not the beds fault. It's a great bed. The problem is if you put it in a room that is too small it feels very confining. My sons room is approximately 8 feet by 14 feet. Long room but a bit too narrow for this bed. Also he doesn't have windows in his room and the ceiling is slanted because it is an attic space and this bed made his room look so dark. I sold the bed today for a lot less than I bought it for...but I feel relieved. I made a mistake in purchasing it. I would just recommend anyone thinking about this bed to think about the room you are putting into. It really is huge! In the year we owned the bed he only slept in it maybe for 2 months. He preferred the floor! But he seems to be the type of guy that just likes to roll out of bed...he was never impressed by the height of it or the ladder. Also another thing to consider...getting into bed with your child if you are short is kind of difficult...the ladder can't really handle more than maybe 100 pounds so the steps cave in a little when I stood on them. So I hope to help someone else not make the mistake I made by ordering this bed. It's a great bed and I would recommend it just not for a small space.

The bed is amazing and we could be happier. My son loves the feeling of being in a "fort". So glad that we made this purchase. We do have a suggestion for Step2. Please find a different delivery company. After arranging delivery on a Monday, complications arose (on the delivery company's side) for an entire week. (Our road was too small, the bed was left off the truck, etc.) The shipping fiasco made me wish I had ordered this same bed from a different site and paid more for more reliable shipping.

I bought this for my 3 year and 2 year old grandsons. They refuse to sleep apart. My daughter had two small toddler beds for them but one would always crowd in with the other. This twin size bed is the perfect choice for them. They have plenty of room and this bed is very well made. They love climbing in and out of it.We haven't been able to use the bottom for storage because they love to play under it.We installed a battery operated push light under it so they could see better. My daughter says they love going to bed in their new "Big boy bed".I'm glad I made this purchase!

Comments about Step2 LifeStyle™ Twin Bed:
We've had ours for 4 years now and the only thing I didn't like was the fact that it needed a more stable base. We began using it with just the boards supplied under the bed, but we ended up buying a piece of melamine board and cutting it to fit as a base under the mattress. But that was mainly due to the fact that I occassionaly slept in the bed with my kid and I didn't want to fall through; not because I thought my child would. I wouldn't worry about reinforcing it if it's only a small child getting in it. It easily holds 300lbs after putting the melamine board in it, and it IS easy to clean, unlike our beige carpet, following an all night stomach flu incident. It doesn't chip or scratch, and nothing's broke in 4 years, so it still looks like new. The initial assembly can be an adventure, but really, it's not that bad. I've assembled and disassembled both with and without my husband and it's turned out fine- I recommend getting a helper though, it'll go easier.

I love this bed and best of all so does my son. He is excited to go to bed! He loves playing underneath it. I love that I can use it as storage for toys. The bed is bigger than I though it would be but it works perfectly for us. I like the fact I do not have to worry about him rolling out of bed at night. I am very happy with our purchase and would definitely buy again and again!
