Assembly took all of about one minute - the legs just snapped on and it was ready to go. We put it in the backyard, added sand and let the kids go. It was a bday gift for our 2 yr old and she is very protective of it already! Description says it will hold up to 80 lbs of sand, but we've discovered that a 50 lbs bag works just right. It doesn't overflow but allows for the lid to go on top and close properly. (It was tested out the first night we had it. A huge rain storm came thru and the next day there was no water inside whatsoever!!)

We recently purchased this sand table for our 3 yr old, as she loves to play with sand, but were disappointed in it very quickly. We placed it on our deck with the lid securely attached, but after 1 night of rain, the entire inside is filled with water and the sand is ruined! There's no place for the water to go, so we now have to dump the entire thing. I've contacted Step 2 directly and was told by their Customer Service Rep that there's nothing they can/will do and she suggested we try putting silicone around the holes where the cable goes through. Just another poorly created product that the manufacturer continues to make money off of!

Comments about Step2 Naturally Playful® Sand Table™:

We bought this table for my 2-year-old daughter. I like the fact she can't climb into it since we wanted to put it on our deck and didn't want her tracking a lot of sand inside. Although the deck doesn't have any covering, I thought the table would be fine because it had a cover of its own. We have mostly Step 2 products and have come to trust both their quality and design. Big mistake.
After the first rain, we opened the lid a few days later to find a cesspool of standing water and moldy sand. My husband drilled holes in the bottom to help it drain, but that doesn't prevent water from getting into the box or make it dry faster. Since it's currently our rainy season, it's useless. It was a huge splurge for us, one we had to save months for, and after this immense design flaw on Step 2's part, I'll think twice about purchasing their toys again.
Bottom line: Don't buy this unless you can shelter it from rain. Otherwise, you'll come to regret it as I have.

    Comments about Step2 Naturally Playful® Sand Table™:

It's great that the sand area is deep (the top portion). The cover stays on good, even in our windy location. However, the table is very short overall. My kids are 2 1/2 and just turned 3 years and they have to bend when playing with it. I'll probably only get this summer out of it, which is a shame.

My day care kids love this table. We use it every day. I've filled it with rice, beans, felt circles, Pom poms, packing peanuts, ice cubes... They scoop, sort, transfer materials and have a great time. I cover it and slide it under our art table.

      Comments about Step2 Naturally Playful® Sand Table™:

This is a very nice sandbox. The kids really like it and it keeps them cleaner than a sandbox they sit in. It would be nice if it had adjustable heights. My five-year-old daughter has to bend over quite a bit to play in it and if I put a chair up to it her legs do not fit underneath. I would like to be able to make it higher. I also thought it was going to be deeper to put more sand, but there is adequate room. I hope step two comes out with a sandbox for a little bit bigger kids. This one seems more suited for 1 to 3-year-olds.

how much sand is needed for this sand table and where can i purchase this type of sand?
      A shopper on May 4, 2014
BEST ANSWER: You can buy the sand almost anywhere, ie: Home Depot, Lowe's, Wal-Mart, etc... and it's very inexpensive. Depending on what size bag of sand you buy, you may need one or two bags. We always buy an extra bag anyway so we have some to top off the box when it starts to get low, and believe me it does! We love this sand box and it gets tons of use with my two girls.
Can this table hold water instead of sand?
      A shopper on Apr 8, 2013
BEST ANSWER: When it rains and I don't remember to cover the sandtable, then YES it definitely holds water (and muddy sand). But I also bought a water table at the same time I bought this and it actually ended up getting much more attention. Maybe it was the blue color, the toys or the water wheel but there was something more attractive about that water table than the sand table.
Does anyone feel there three year old is too tall for this sandbox?
      A shopper on May 3, 2014
BEST ANSWER: My kids are 4 and 6 and still play with the table. I just put down pads for them to kneel on as they play. Your 3 year old should still be able to stand at it but will outgrow it soon because it is pretty short. Hope this helps.
Can I remove the legs on the "Naturally Playful Sand Table" (for easier storage) without ruining the product?
      richard w on May 7, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I'm not sure. The sand box is at church and I will look at it and get back with you in a few days.
Can an umbrella be added to this product?
      lynsey p on Mar 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No, an umbrella cannot be added to the Naturally Playful® Sand Table.
what are the dimensions of just the top of the table?
      M S on Nov 26, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The Naturally Playful® Sand Table's tabletop dimensions are 5.5" high x 30" wide x 21.5" deep.
The legs won't go in! I've tried pushing firmly as the instructions say, but they don't go in. My dad, and my husband have also tried.
Any advice? Anyone else had this problem? Think i'll have to return it if we can't get them in...
      A shopper on Oct 22, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Please call our Customer Service Department toll free at 1-800-347-8372 Monday - Friday, from 8-5 ET and we will be happy to assist you with the assembly of this product.
