The bed is a beautiful bed and my 3 year old daughter loves it. However, the holes to drill the screws in were not pre-drilled and you had to create your own holes. The bed would not fit a twin boxspring so you can only use the mattress party of the twin set. Also, directions should have stated that you need to pound on some of the parts to get them to fit correctly together. All in all, it was pretty sturdy once put together and my daughter loves it.

Do not purchase this bed. This took me 6 hours to assemble because I had to take my largest drill bit to make the 12 nickel size openings larger. The bed is not up to my satisfaction because it is not put together the way it should be.

We purchased this bed for our 2 1/2 year old grandaughter who loves it. It is adorable and durable. Also easily washable. The only negative was that there were a couple of quarter -sized holes that were not pre-drilled. Fortunately that was not a big problem for us as we have an extensive tool collection.

Comments about Step2 Princess Palace Twin Bed™:

I wish I would have skipped a toddler bed! My daughter LOVES this bed...no more getting up multiple times a night!

Putting it together took less than 1/2 hour. Yes, you have to drill your own holes, but they have exact indents to show you where to drill - with the screws that are included. We have an memory foam mattress (11 inches high) and it DOES go over the sides, which isn't an issue for us. It is strong enough for you to sit on to read a story to your little one too!

One thing that we would change is the opening under the bed. It is large enough for toys to get lost under the entire bed, but not large enough for a storage bin.

Delivery was great, the box IS large - but small enough to fit through a normal size front door.

              Great buy!

                    Bayard W: Tracy,

We were concerned as well, and purchased a "bunky board" - a 1 - 2" thin wood/fabric construct that takes the place of a full sized box-spring. You can get them about anywhere that sells mattresses (I was hoping they'd knock some $ off since I got in place of the boxspring, but Mor furniture did not). With bunky board under the mattress, she has about 1.5" of plastic to keep her from rolling out. It has worked so far. A full sized box spring under the mattress would have left the top of mattress higher than the gray plastic rail.

Note that the bed comes with plywood (and a plastic box to provide support for under it), so they may very well intend for that plywoood to give the support for the mattress instead of a box spring or bunky board. I wouldn't want to trust my weight on it. The bunk board on the other hand, is incredibly solid and will support the whole family.

Jennifer H: We used this for our 2 year old daughter. For a while, we had the bed set up with the castle, and the 2 sides with the mattress on the floor…for the exact reason that the sides are not deep enough to catch them from falling out. A couple months before her 3rd birthday, we put the bed together correctly. She has fallen out of it once. We use a bumper from a baby's crib, and stick it in the sides with most of it sticking up, and I have 2 blankets rolled up against to give her something to feel when she gets too close. It works most of the time. We couldn't figure out how to make side rails work, but maybe we didn't have the right research. The bed is awesome & both my son & daughter love playing it. The only downfall is that the sides are not high at all & even with the mattress. Hope this helps! Nov 11, 2013

Theresa P: I purchased this for my 18 month old and I did not get side rails. It is very low to the ground and the bed is huge. At first, she fell out about twice and didn't even wake up. She is now three and has not had problems since. We also put one side of the bed against a wall. The sides would be deeper if your mattress is flatter. Our mattress is flatter than the one in the picture. Hope that helps. Nov 6, 2013

Ana L: The sides are not deep enough. I have this bed for my daughter and I just put pillows on the floor a couple of times but she didn´t fall off. The bed is not tall.
I suggest you better try the bed first without the bed rails, putting pillows on the floor in case she falls off. I dodn´t think the bed rails fit on this bed.

Crystal W: My daughter was 3 when I purchased the bed. I used a low profile mattress. I believe because of the width of the bed with side rails it has never been a problem. There is room for a bed rail if you find you need one. Nov 5, 2013

Laura L: With the mattress we bought which I did not believe was very high the sides were not deep enough to act as bed rails. How beer they are very wide so it makes the bed more like a full with more surface area. Nov 7, 2013

Susan S: I'm not sure what the official weight limit is but my son and daughter both lay in it and they weigh 35 and 45 pounds. It also will hold me with my daughter when we talk about her day.

It will probably hold a lot of weight, especially if you want to add a step stool or something like that under the plywood for extra support.

It's a great bed and my daughter couldn't be happier!

Heather C: The mattress sits on top of the boards. It makes it a little tricky to tuck in the comforter but not trickier than any popular platform style bed. I think having a box spring would make the bed too tall and possibly the mattress would slide off the bed Feb 26, 2014

Leyla S: I bought a bunk bed mattress. A regular twin mattress may be too high for the sides to keep your child in bed. You can always give it a try if you already have a regular mattress but a bunk one will probably work best. Oct 30, 2013

Shelley B: I bought 2 of them. One for a 3 year old and an older child with Downs. They love them! The beds are very sturdy and clean up easily (they have marked on them with Crayola's and markers and it cleans off easily with a magic eraser). From my friends kids interest, I expect them to last until the youngest is at least 10 or 11, then they probably will get handed down to other nieces. They're well worth the money. Jul 15, 2013

Terra S: We also bought this bed for our daughter when she got too big for her toddler bed. It is a wonderful product. I have no complaints about it. She is six now and still loves it and I can't imagine buying another bed for at least 4-5 years. Jul 15, 2013

Ann W: It's the size of a regular twin bed. It is very sturdy. I have my 4 year old in it now and she has plenty of room. If she is having trouble sleeping I can get in it and sleep with her. Hope that helps. Jul 15, 2013

Step2Staff: I will be interested to see what others have to say about how long their daughter enjoys this bed but the weight limit for this bed is 300 lbs. so she should be able to enjoy it for years to come. Jul 15, 2013

Amit G: This can easily sleep an adult so your daughter will probably get bored of it before she outgrows it Jul 15, 2013

A shopper asked: Hi I was wondering if this bed converts to a toddler bed as well as the twin..or is it just the twin size? Also if the parts of this bed would be compatible with the older version...(tannish color with pink sides, night light on it & has a little table like thing at the end of it). Apr 25, 2013

Leyla S: This is only a twin bed not a toddler bed. We bought a bunk bed mattress which is not as thick as a regular mattress so the side rails prevent our daughter from rolling out onto the floor at night. Sorry but I'm not sure if parts from this bed are compatible with the older version. I would think maybe so. Our daughter loves this bed and even for a twin I can fit comfortably in it with her if she's having a bad night. We've had it for almost 2yrs and no complaints. May 3, 2013

Jessica P: Hello, I purchased this bed last year. It does not convert to a toddler bed only a twin. I'm not sure about it being compatible with an older version. What parts are you wondering about? If the models are similar I would think they would be compatible. Apr 29, 2013

Sorry, I don't know if the parts are compatible with the older version.

JenG53 asked: What depth mattress will fit in this bed? I have to choose between 8 or 13 inch deep mattress. Thank you! Nov 10, 2013

Catherine G: An 8 inch mattress would work best. I measured the depth of the bed; the pink column corner has a 15 inch depth to the mattress base but keep in mind there is an arch in the foot board that dips down several inches. A 13 inch mattress would work, but you would be able to see the mattress protruding from the top of the arch in the center. It would also be best to have an 8 inch mattress if you need the sides to function like guard rails for a smaller child. Hope this helps. Nov 12, 2013
