Have a door covering for the news paper. That will keep the paper dry from snow and rain.
I love the mailbox for the most part. It is very attractive and easy to install. However, the instructions are not clearly detailed. They do not specify that you need a 4 foot long 4"x4" post for the installation. They also do not specify which way to install the roof section of the box to the lower section. In addition, they do not clearly show which side of the mailbox faces the road and which side faces the house. The diagram in the instructions would have you facing the side with nice finished look (with the post cover insert) toward the road. Meanwhile, the picture on the box shows the other side (with the two elongated slots) facing the road. I decided to install the roof and the mailbox exactly like the picture on the box. I installed the roof section on the box with the alert flag facing the road. I then installed the mailbox so that the finished side faced the house and the side with the elongated holes faced the road. I believe this makes more sense because the mailbox will mount to the front of the post and be more resistant to being damaged by snow plows. I agree with the other reviewer who stated "The post is odd in that the back side is finished and looks terrific with screw holes being neat and appropriate. The front side has ugly elongated slots and a gaping square hole in the bottom center base. WHY? It ruins the appearance of the entire frontside." The road side of the mailbox could use some improvement to cover the bolts. A tip for installing the post...dig the hole 3.5 feet deep and add 1.5 feet of gravel. Then place the post in the hole and use gravel to fill around the post. Leave the last six inches on the top for filling in with dirt. This will keep the post from rotting.

This thing is great, all around great mailbox, would buy again or as a gift.
I love this product it has a stone look and our house has stone on it so it compliments the house. However not all things are perfect. Someone ran their car into it twice and I have been furnace taping it together for about a year and am going to have to brake down and buy a new one. If I am purchasing a new one you know I like it very well. I guess nothing will hold up to cars.
I have received several compliments from my neighbor's. I really love it!!!!!!!!!!!!
very easy to install, great design.
This is the best mailbox I have ever had. I had a previous step 2 mail box which was several years old and still looked like new, but was damaged by a snowplow, so I decided to purchase another step 2 mail box because of its quality.
The base of mail box cracks away from it's pedestal when snow plows come through. Had mail box for 1 1/2 winters.
NOT MANY PEOPLE HAVE ONE OF THESE
