Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

The flimsy comment is for the drill. The battery compartment is now taped shut as the screw won't catch and the "chuck" broke when my son dropped the drill....and he didn't throw it, he dropped it. Outside of the drill, its a great product and the kids love it. The stickers were left out of the packaging but step2 said they would put them in the mail for us. I expect they will be playing with this for a few years. Thanks!

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

For christmas our son received the Handy Manny work bench. It was incredibly flimsy plastic (esp. for [$]!!) and my son (who is 3 1/2) played with it and loved the voice of HM talking to him. The projects were limited and not that fun. Tiny parts were lost in a day or two. Then on the third day, they (i also have a 2yr old daughter) they knocked it over and Handy Manny's head fell off. I returned it and got this one for 1/2 the price and love everything about it. There are plenty of wood pieces and hardware to make more than one project. We love it and no matter how rough they "might" get, this thing is made to last. LOVE IT.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

We ordered this for our 2 year old son. We thought he would like to hammer at things and play with the drills, but for right now it's just taking up space in his room. I'm sure here in a few months he'll be more in to it, but we probably should have gone with something just a little more simple for him at this time. It's great quality though and we've been able to "help" him build quite a few things.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

It is a nice and durable workshop but my son just found it to be okay as far as doing the projects. The wood pieces are foam and he would rather make real wood projects. For the most part he would push the pieces together rather than use the tools, which made it kinda boring and unrealistic for him. My son is 4 yrs old so I would probably recommend this to the 3 and under crowd.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

I was excited that it came with all the "wood" pieces, which are foam. However, you can't even screw the screws into them, you just have to push them through the holes that are too small. The other problem is that the drill is weak and the drill bits are too small for the screws. Fortunately we already had a drill and tools that would work with it. Plus, my son can't even pull the drawer in and out, because it doesn't slide at all. I am very disappointed.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

I bought this for my boys for Christmas. After I assembled it I was disappointed that the tools did not fit the slots on the workbench. The drill can not fit into the "charger" and the screwdriver and bits are the wrong shape to fit in the holes. Upon calling Step2 I was informed this is the new design and products may vary. I have other Step2 products that I am very pleased with. I feel this toy is of poor design.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

I purchased this toolbench for my 3 year old and he loves it. He loves the tools that come with it and likes to build and put the pieces of "wood" together. He can fit the pieces together and doesn't have to use the screws to hold the pieces together. That allows him to play with it on his own and doesn't need an adult to help. His older sisters like to use the instructions and build the projects that are suggested. I had been looking for toolbenches and saw this on the website because it is not carried in stores near us. I was a little worried that it wouldn't be like it showed online, but it looks and works great.

This was a Christmas gift for my 2 1/2 year old grandson, who is into putting things together and taking them apart. I was a bit concerned that this would be too challenging for him, but he proceeded to screw in all the bolts on his first try at the bench. He also has made a simple airplane, much to his delight. Cannot read the plans for the other projects, but this should provide him with a number of years of play and challenges.

I bought this for my 3 year old son as a Christmas gift. He loves it. He especially likes the drill that works just like daddy's. My daughter who is 6 also has fun playing with it and helping him assemble the pieces.
It is very easy to assemble and incredibly sturdy. The only thing that I would say is a drawback is that there are so many "wood" pieces that they barely fit in the bottom tray. Still I love it.

Service & Delivery comments:

Make the bottom tray larger so that it holds all of the pieces a little better.

My 4-year old child loves the work bench. He loves making his toolbox, and attaching the other pieces together. He will sometimes loves just hammering the bolts into the bench, or putting the nuts and bolts together. We found the workbench easy to assemble, and is sturdy for my 4-year old to play. It doesn't take up much room either, which is a big plus. We are very happy with the investment. Seeing his face Christmas morning was priceless!!

I got this for my 3.5 year old son for Christmas. He liked it but I cannot say he is thrilled with it. The "projects" part of this set is wonderful by any means but really does not require the tools that come with the set. When you pretend that they are required they dont work. But overall it is nice for the value. I agree with the other reviewers that the drawer is tough to open and shut.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

Most of the workshops come with bench, tools, and screws.
This one offers kids a lot projects to build airplane,
car, rocket and house. I got my son one little tike workshop when he was 2. All he did is turn the tools on and get some noise form them. When I saw this on Step2 web side, I knew I can bring this game to a different level.

Can accomplish this with sticks and stones. Need to replace parts with correct ones for everyone who purchased this product. Now I have to refund for money back and upset my son who couldn't wait for his project workbench. Thanks alot Step 2!

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

I bought this for my 3yo for Christmas and after assembling the workbench realized none of the tools fit in the storage "holes" on the workbench. The drill is to large to fit the pretend charger and the screwdriver handle and bits are the wrong shape to fit in the slots. I called customer service and was told that the tools I received were the new design and that designs may vary. [...], no resolution was offered for the wrong size tools. I expected higher design quality and better customer service from Step 2. I am very disappointed.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

I love all Step 2 products but was disappointed that there weren't more tools and that the bench didn't fill up with tools for my son to use. It seemed incomplete. It seems as though there was not enough thought put into this toy. There are a lot of holes on the bench and nothing to put in them. There were tools that didn't fit into anything to make it work realistically ... there was a socket attachment for the drill but there wasn't a socket set? There were holes in the bench for the sockets but none to put in the holes??
This workbench was something we were all excited about but this is the first time we were disappointed in a product from the Step 2 folks.
My parents got it for my four year old for Christmas and thankfully they don't live close by. My Dad, who is a wood worker, would be as disapointed as I am ... being a woodworker myself.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

We got this as a Christmas gift for my 2 1/2 year old son. He loves it! My 6 year old daughter also couldn't wait to play with it, and is currently entertaining herself with it. A few minor irritations, though. It is difficult for the kids to pull the drawer out. Also, while assembling, it would be nice if the holes were pre-drilled into the legs where you attach the workbench surface. I had to go and dig out the electric drill and a drill bit, and pre-drill the holes before the screws would go in. Lastly, while putting the batteries into the drill, it turned on, and we haven't quite figured out what the trick is to turning it on and off yet. Overall, this is a great toy that inspires the imagination, and allows kids to act just mommy and daddy. Step2 products are known for being sturdy, durable pieces, and this one certainly is.

Service & Delivery comments:

- Pre-drill holes into legs where workbench surface screws in. This is a hassle to deal with.
- Make drawer a little easier to pull out and push in.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

My son loves it, but my daughter likes it too. He usually takes his toys apart, but this seems to be durable enough to survive his rough play. He has built some of the suggested projects, but he has also created his own. He quickly figured out how to use all of the tools. It would be nice if more screws and nuts were included so they can be used in the projects. Also it may have been nice if the screws were a combination of phillips and flat head varieties. Additional tools can be purchased to expand the fun. Finally, there is room to store all of the included tools easily.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

Definitely need extra pieces that can be purchased separately. It would be really nice to have much larger pieces, to build a play house with roof and windows and door.

The tools don't get as much use as I'd like, since most of the pieces just pop together.

My three year old loves my drill for putting screws in things, which is why I bought the set for him for Christmas, but he seemed a bit intimidated by the wood pieces. My five and seven year old played for a long time and were very creative. Even my ten year old daughter loved it and was able to make things faster than I could even find the pieces.

Our biggest problem was that we ran out of pieces immediately with everyone wanting to play and no one wanting to destroy what they'd made.

The construction is really good. Some of the pieces didn't want to stay interlocked, so I wonder if that will become a greater problem with increased use.

I am very glad to have finally found a workshop where children can really build.

My 3 1/2 year old son received this tool bench for an early Christmas gift, and he absolutely loves it! His favorite part is building projects with the "wooden" pieces. His little sister loves playing with the tools, too. The only reason that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because he gets frustrated with the drawer, because it is a little tight to open and close. I'm hoping that over time it will loosen up a bit. Great product!

After looking at several workbench playsets for my 3 yr old son, this was by far the best. There are many "flimsy" and "cheap looking" set out there, this is not one of them. This is very sturdy and will last for any little one that likes to "build". We would highly recommend it - BEST value out there for a quality toy. Remember the "wood" pieces are foam (not good for "chewing" little ones).

This is a very sturdy, fun toy, I purchased it for our twin 3 Yr. old grandchildren for in my home, as I babysit them everyday and wanted them to have something fun for these long winter months being cooped up inside. They love it ! The wood pieces actually look real and they love using the battery powered drill. It was easy to put together. I am sold on step2 products, as we also have the Retro Diner and it also is very well made and a big hit.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

My husband and daughter enjoy building together. The toys are very durable and the bench is sturdy. My daughter is tall (nearly 40") and the height of this bench is appropriate for her. The only thing I would change is to somehow incorporate more storage for all the pieces. For those of you who are interested, you can call Step 2 and order another set of blocks so that you can build more than one toy at a time. Overall, an EXCELLENT toy that will last!

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

The grandparents got this for my almost 3 year old daughter for Christmas. She loves it! She started playing with it instantly, and plays with it almost every day. She loves the hammer, and the screwdriver. Once we showed her that she could actually screw the screws in the table top, she was hooked! I think the "wood" parts are a little advanced for her to be able to put together one of the models, but she likes fitting them together anyway.

Santa brought this for our 2-year old son, knowing how much he likes tools and loves to work with his hands. He especially loves the working drill and pretends to be just like Daddy, fixing things around the house with the assortment of tools. His older sister, age 5, also enjoys playing with the workshop, helping her brother to build all the great projects with the "wood", which is made of a fabulously durable, safe material. The workshop itself was easy to put together and has a place to store all its pieces. Once again, we're thrilled with Santa's decision to go with a Step 2 product!

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

I love this toy! My 3 year old recently developed a huge liking for tools and building. His father was letting him hammer real nails and screw real screws into wood which is totally an accident waiting to happen. This toy provides nearly the same satisfaction as the real thing. The best part is that he gets to actually build something with the precut wood-foam pieces. My husband said that they were very easy to build together. If the finished piece falls apart (some just interlock with no screws) my son can easily fix it himself with the interlocking pieces. We have only 2 criticisms: 1)they don't give you enough pieces to make all the projects at once. The pieces are interchangable therefore you can't have some projects built simultaneously. My husband wanted to make the rocket and space crawler so my 2 sons could play a sort of space themed pretend game, but they couldn't because the 2 projects used the same pieces. 2) Too few tools. Overall it is a great learning tool while having a great time. TIP: We bought extra realistic toy tools to add more variety.

It is realistic and a great learning tool. Boys just love to tinker no matter what the age. My daughter would recommend it for any child 2 and up.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

The thing that sets this apart from other children's workbenches I looked at is the many projects and activities the child can do with it. The projects also suit a wide age range. My just turned three year old can't quite build the "wood" projects without help yet, but he can practice screwing the bolts into holes in the workbench and putting the nuts on the bolts. The battery powered screwdriver/wrench works great and even lets you know when the bolt is tight. One thing I would suggest is to go ahead and buy the additional "Soft and Sturdy Building Projects" set. This way you can build multiple projects at the same time without having to take the others apart first. The set also includes a hammer and saw, but there's really nothing they can be used for. This is a great building set for developing motor skills.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

After my husband and I both researched on-line and in the stores, this workbench seemed to be the best choice. It was the least expensive, had rave reviews and not only was "pretend play" but included the foam blocks so our son (aged 21 months when he received it at Christmas) could grow into the toy and actually "make things." He was already following his dad around prior to receiving this gift whenever my husband did projects around the house stealing the tape measure, hammer or screwdriver. And could identify each one and retrieve them by name if asked. So this was by far the first thing he ran to on Christmas morning. It says for ages 3 and up but I just put the small nuts away so he wouldn't lose them until he could use them as he got older and understood how they worked. He loves using the electric drill to screw in the bolts to the bench itself and clamp pieces of the foam into the clamp. This is a great toy and the price can't be beat especially compared to similar items offered at much higher prices by competitors. And those toys can't make "projects." My son loves this toy and will love it even more as he grows into the more advanced features of it! A great buy!

We purchased this toolbench as a Christmas present for our 21 month old son. He absolutely loves it. This product delivers that. It has only been a week since Christmas, and the workshop has already had alot of use....

My 4 1/2 year old son was excited to see this from Santa but it was my 2 1/2 year old nephew who has had the most fun with it. My son wants to only make what the plans show so he has gotten a little frustrated at times. The only down side of the product we have found is that the screws (even with the drill) do not always go in smoothly making it frustrating for little hands. Other than that it seems like a quality toy that can be used over the years

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

Overall this is a very good toy. We purchased this for our three year old son, and he likes it very much as does our five year old. Our older son can assemble the "wood projects" on his own, but our three year old still needs some help. I was very glad I purchased the additional wood pieces or we wouldn't have had enough to make more than two projects without disassembling the first ones. The only disappointment in this toy was when we were assembling it at about 9 o'clock at night Christmas Eve we discovered that one of the plastic pieces (part of the vice) that you screw into the workbench was broken. It still went together, but for the money we paid I didn't expect to get a cracked piece. I would buy this again, just not wait until the last minute to open and check the parts so I could have exchanged it for a different one before Christmas.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

We bought this for my 23 month old son for Christmas. He (and his 4 year old sister) love it. I like how the drill will screw and unscrew the screws into the bench. I don't like that there is nothing specific to hammer into the bench (there are 13 holes in the bench but they are all for screws). It would have been nice to have a couple of nails and a couple holes to hammer them into. My kids still hammer the screws but it's not really the same. My son is still a bit too young to build the projects but they look pretty neat. All in all we love this bench and would buy it again.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

We purchased the workshop for my 2 year old grandson. He absolutely loves it and enjoys putting together the "wooden" projects with his dad. His favorite part of the toolbench is the battery-operated drill which he has mastered. He screws and unscrews into the top of the workbench like a pro. This was truly worth the money and a great toy. We'll be purchasing additional "wood" to add to the items he can build.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

Overall, we were pleased with the realistic nature of the bench & wooden pieces and the overall quality of the items. Although the "wooden" pieces have many blueprints of projects for toddlers to make, the bench itself is quite small in height for our 3 & almost 5 year-old sons. The bench doesn't have ample storage for all of the "wooden" pieces which I dislike. I would like to see a bigger bench for toddler-aged children. There isn't one out there-this is the closest we found. Finally, the drill that came with the set didn't work when we opened it Christmas day, so our sons had to wait for a replacement drill to play with their present.

Perfect for my 2 year old who loves to "help!" He received this from Santa and if my son hadn't received anything else he wouldn't have minded. The tools work and are realistic looking, but not strong enough to hurt. The toolbench is not very tall, so might not work for older children but perfect for 2 to 4 year old.

I bought this workbench for my 3 almost 4 year old for Christmas. He has absolutely loves it. He is already able to make some projects without any help. Compared to other workbenches, this one is the best since it actually has projects to make. The foam wood is great. Overall I am very pleased with the product. The only minor complaints I have are the drill bit and the saw. The drill bit doesn't serve a purpose other than to just pretend you are making a hole. The saw leaves permanent marks in the "wood". Other than that, it is an excellent product.

Quality product for a great price. I am very pleased with this product and will look into purchasing other items in the future.[...] My daughter (whom I purchased it for) absolutely loves it and my son (who is 17 years old) likes to play with it as well. He says he's just "helping" her but I think it's fun for him too.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

My son who is almost 3 loves his "tool shop". His father has a cabinet shop so he really thinks he can build things like his daddy. It is a "dream-come-true" for him. The only draw back is that the instruction sheet for the building projects could be a little clearer for younger children. Over all it seems to be a terrific product.

My 3 year old son received this from Santa and he loves it. He hasn't stopped playing with it and wants to do all the projects. It is great to do with a parent but easy enough to do alone also.
The only thing that would make it better would be if it came with enough wood pieces to do all the projects without having to take another one apart.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

We decided to buy this for our son for his 2nd birthday. He is absolutly fascinated with the working drill and the screws. He doesn't grasp the concept of buildings any of the little projects but that is what makes this gift an absolutely perfect buy for his age. He will continue to grow and develop and will discover "new" things he can do with it. My daughter is 3 1/2 and she is starting to understand the building projects and spends as much time playing with it as he does. My niece was over and she is 6 and it held her attention for quite sometime as well. This is the absolute perfect gift for any child who is mechanically inclined. A+++++ Would make the decision to buy it again in a heart beat!!!

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

This is a great product, but it is for older children. My 3 year old nephew could not assemble the projects. In fact, it was difficult for me (a 24 year old) to do most of the projects. Aside from that, the 3 year old and 2 year old had a great time drilling the screws and bolts into the tabletop. Also, the drill broke within the first hour but was fixed by my husband.

My son's preschool has this and he really loves it so it was a great gift for his birthday. We all play with this. My daughter loves the tools, mom & dad put together projects. Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

My kids are 3 and 4. They still half-heartedly played with their old workshop, but they'd rather be playing with Daddy's power tools. This has been the perfect solution for us! It allows them to pretend - and they can actually construct things in the process! We purchased the workshop, the extra "wood" pieces and, for [$], Step 2 sent us a 2nd drill and set of tools. My boys spend hours with their little drills, bolting and unbolting! I love Step 2 as a company, but this was definitely one of their finer moments!

I purchased this for my 3 year old son's birthday. I was so excited about the toy and couldn't wait for it to arrive. It [...] was easy to put together. After reading the other reviews I purchased an extra set of blocks so that he wouldn't run out of materials. The work bench was a huge hit with my son and his 4 year old sister as well. They love using the drill and working on their projects. The only improvement that I can see would be to have the tool drawer glide a little easier. Other than that it's perfect.

A little smaller than I thought - perfect for our 4 year old, kind of short for our 6 year old. They do have fun w/ it esp playing with real wood pieces. The foam built-it-yourself pieces may get torn or worn in time, purchased an extra set - was worth getting. Kids a little disappointed there isn't anything that they can hammer in, only comes with screws and nuts. But they have a lot of fun w/ it.

This is by far one of the best toys I have bought, and well worth every penny. My boys ages 3 & 5 love to build and drill with this toy. The best thing about this, is that it really makes them feel like they are really building and drilling. They spend a lot of time at their toolbench. The only thing that would make this any better, would be a second drill so they could both have one. [...] is there anywhere I can buy another drill? Thanks!

I bought this for my 2 & 4 year old boys for Christmas. I was looking for a larger workbench that allowed my boys to "work like Daddy". This product was a great value and I particularly appreciated having no shipping fees around the holidays!

This is one of the few toys they share well together. My older son loves building the suggested projects as well as a few of his own, and they both love the tools, particularly the working drill! They can spend a whole morning pretending to fix things around the house!

We couldn't be happier with this workbench. I'd highly recommend it to others!

Bad Value
Bottom Line:

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

The bench barely holds the pieces and tools that it comes with. If it isn't put away in just the right order, they don't fit. So then the pieces are everywhere.

It's durable material. But really too small to be used for building. There is a no way a child of that age can make these items themselves, which is fine. But then there is no room at the bench for an adult to get near it to help them put it together.

All and All my daughter has been very fustrated my it. I wish I hadn't wasted my money.

This is a great product because there are endless creations to be made aside form the defined projects. The materials are very user friendly and will last a long time. When my son is off track, I suggest we build a bird house and he immediatly goes to the work shop and gets very busy. Thank you for this great product that allows the imagination to grow.

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

Santa brought this for my son for Christmas. He has played with it almost everyday since. Especially the drill - he really enjoys using it to screw the nuts and bolts together. It was easy to assemble and arrived on-time. Our only complaint is that the drawer is hard to open/close, but that is a really minor issue. This toy was a real hit.

By 2 boys MomVerified Purchaser from Chevy Chase, MD on 4/19/2007
Pros:
Durable, Good Value, High Quality
Best Uses:
Imaginative play
Bottom Line:

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

I purchased two of these -- one for my 2 1/2 year old, one for my 4 1/2 year old to prevent squabbles. The tools are excellent and the "wooden" pieces make wonderful projects. It's much more versitile than other work benches and lends itself to many more activities. Little ones can screw and unscrew bolts, big kids can make real projects. Save the punch-out sheets for the pieces for something to saw on. A very fun product for aspiring builders!

Nice workshop for the price
By TLnunleyVerified Purchaser from Louisville, KY on 4/19/2007
Pros:
Good Value
Cons:
Not enough bolts and nuts
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

My grandson is 4 years old and loves this toy! To make some of the projects to blueprint he needs adult help which is a bit aggrevating for him not to be able to do it on his own. One suggestion is to add more bolts and nuts so the child doesn't have to tear apart what he just made in order to make another model with the foam pieces.

Cons:
Wood doesn't feel real
Best Uses:
Creative Development, Imaginative Play, Indoor, Outdoor
Describe Yourself:
Working Parent
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

The product did meet my expectations. My child is visually impaired, and we want realistic toys. The working drill helped him with the interactive screws. His friends enjoyed playing with it at his three year old party. Much too young yet to begin designing some of the suggested projects. The drawer is very hard for children his age to pull out independently. I would have liked the wood to feel a little textured, not just flat. But it really "looks" like wood.

Santa brought two of these motorcycles to my 3 year old and two year old sons. Lying in bed one night 10 days before Christmas, I asked my oldest son Jack what Santa was bringing him. He said, "I think a motorcycle." I was in a panic. I found this step 2 motorcycle hoping it would pass. It did with flying colors. My two sons play with them daily in the house and can't wait to bring them outside.

Cons:
Smaller pieces get lost
Best Uses:
Building, Counting, Creative play
Bottom Line:

Comments about Step2 Real Projects Workshop:

My 3 year old is really into putting things together so this tool bench was perfect for him. Not only does it look realistic and have a fun power drill and other tools to use, it also comes with the foam building pieces that are great for helping him learn to build projects on his own. Not only does he follow the blueprints but he also uses his imagination to build his own ideas. I love that it easy to use and he doesn't need a lot of help to put the pieces together. It is also a helpful way to incorporate shape recognition and counting when he's playing so not only is he using his imagination but he's learning as well.
