The directions for this product were difficult to understand. It was not easy to assemble, especially the string that goes across the top of the masts. In addition, Captain Hook was missing his hook. It had broken off in the package. Very poorly designed. It is hard to keep the ship from falling apart. Very disappointed. I purchased two items from Step2 for Christmas and they were both duds.

We got this for Christmas and just thought it was a good bargain. Never expected it to be their favorite gift, but it is. It's much bigger than we thought. It's elaborate, yet durable and has already survived hours of play by a two year old and a four year old. They love it. Tried to buy 2 more as gifts, but they were sold out... oh well.

Very well constructed and realistic. Our almost 4-year old grandson loves it; needs a reminder to be a little careful. We glued a few of the parts so they did not come apart so easily and that made it better for him to play with. It is a good size pirate ship as well!

Easy to assemble, my 2 year old likes to take it apart and watch me put it back together, but he also enjoys making the pirates climb the rope ladders and say "ahoy matey" over and over. :) I didn't give him the small wooden treasure chest or barrel to be on the safe side, but the set is easily used without the smaller pieces. This set is larger than I expected, a really nice size and is pretty sturdy except for being easy for my 2 year old to take apart, which I'm sure would be fine for older kids who could put it back together themselves. Overall I'm very satisfied!

My 3 year old loves pirates and he absolutely loves this toy! The pirate ship lets his imagination run wild and keeps his attention for much longer than most competing toys. He loves the extra pieces that come with it and of course the pirates.

This gift is for our grandsons 3rd Birthday. My husband and I had a ball putting it together. In fact, my husband turned into a child while he was putting it together!!
Our grandsons name is Jack, so we hand wrote "Captain Jack" on the treasure chest.
There are several smaller pieces that may get lost, but all and all it is a wonderful product. I would highly recommend this to others!

The ship is really quite nice. I agree with some of the complaints that the pieces fall off too easily. It's true, but it can be mitigated by ensuring that the pieces are completely seated on their nubs. If so, the "auto-dismantling" feature of the ship is effectively disabled. Even so, a little glue here and there is not a bad idea once you know how your child wants to play with the ship. My son and his friends like it a lot.

We gave this to my son for Christmas - he had just turned 3 in November. He absolutel loves it. And I love that it is wood and not that cheap plastic that you find everywhere else. Certain pieces come off easily (the front mast and the main sails don't always stay hooked at the bottom), but they also pop right back on. For now, I have to put it back together for my son, but I'm sure he'll be doing it himself soon. The construction of the basic ship is very solid, though. My nephew will be 5 next month and he specifically requested this pirate ship for his birthday. I actually purchased a few of them to have for birthday gifts - super quality for the price.

High quality pirate ship! Great size- not too big that it is overwhelming but large enough to have a lot of extras and details. Not difficult to assemble at all, but I did assemble two of them before giving them to my twins so they weren't tempted to "help".

There are a few small pieces- map, cannon, treasure chest- that I have put away until they are a bit older. Thanks to Step 2!!

My 4-year old absolutely loves this pirate ship. It has provided hours and hours of fun. My only complaint is that the sails and other fixtures come off too easily. They can be put back on without a problem, but I just wish i didn't have to keep putting them back on while my son plays with it. This ship is adorable, but having many step2 products, I did expect better quality. A few pieces were already broke or broke upon putting it together. Fortunatly, they weren't that big of a deal for our son to notice. If step2 can make it a bit more sturdy it would be a 5 star. I would recommend it but not at a high price. Bought this on a whim for an extra Xmas present. She loves it!!! She is really into Pocahontas, John Smith, and the whole Jamestown experience so she likes to pretend the pirates are attacking John Smith and the Englishmen or that the pirate ship is one of the settlers' ships. We also bought the fairy shoe and she pretends the pirates take the fairies hostage and the pirates end up going to jail. I love that it is actually wooden instead of plastic!!

Purchased as a combined gift for 5 & 7 year old boys. The 7 year old especially likes it and other action figures have been added to the pirate battles. It has been played with as much or possibly more than the new DS. It is a great size to play with but may be awkward to store.

This was a gift for my niece's 5 year old. When he opened it he was thrilled and yelled "awesome"! As far as the sturdiness of the toy, one has to be realistic and know it will be used by a 5 year-old... he wears all of us out, so our expectations for a very long mortality rate of any toy would be futile. I think this ship is a great buy, but not as durable as all the plastic Step 2 items. I think it would best for kids AT LEAST 4 years old and up. I don't think it would hold up very well being dropped and pushed around by younger children. It has good detailing and a lot of nice accessories. I'm glad I purchased it, but I do wish I would have waited until my son was a little older.

This was a Christmas gift for my 3-year-old son and he LOVES it! My husband assembled it within 10 minutes Christmas morning, but we agreed that we'll probably use wood glue to keep some of the pieces in place (the masts and the flags). I love that it's real wood and once assembled, it's way larger than I was expecting! The pirate figurines are great - very detailed. The sword was broken off one of the figurine's hand before I even removed it from the plastic bag, but my son found it before I could glue it back on and was excited that he had his own miniature sword to play with! lol

I bought this for a friend's son, who is 6, and he loved it. One of my twin daughters, who is 18 months, also played with it. The pirate figures are excellent quality and so is the material that the flags are made of. The ship has nice storage as well, but not quite all of the accessories fit in the "storage" area. The one thing that was a little disappointing is that the flags came off of the poles easily. The kids didn't seem to mind though. Overall, it was a big hit.

The shipping box had identifing information on the outside. Daughter loved this for birthday. Wished we could find girl pirate figurines. We have this to play with Castle of Courage. Show some wear easily on the wood, but that is OK. Much better than plastic or the like. Hard to put away, as it is big and really needs to stay assembled, so make sure you have room for it. Go ahead and get it!

My grandchild is still too young to use this ship, so I will have to wait a couple of years. It intrigued me and I just had to get it for future play. I did have trouble with one of the masts. Either the sail was cut too short or the hole in the mast was drilled too low. In either case, it's an awfully tight fit. Too much for a child to deal with, I'm afraid.

The design is great and very safe. The wood is not a hard wood, so every bump is permanent. This will last awhile, but will definitely not look like news after the first few days, so don't plan on re-selling it. It is a lot of fun for my boys, especially when they take the ship to the step 2 castle to pick up the knights and play out a historic battle to save the princess.

At our school we have ages four through nine years and all of the children (boys and girls) have been thrilled with our new Pirate Ship and Pirates! They all have had wonderful imaginative play for hours over the last several weeks.

This is a very cool pirate ship. It is very large and looks great in my sons room. My son is three and loves the ship. Assembly is required and it does fall apart often. We are thinking about gluing it, so we don't have to keep putting it back together. We are still very happy with the purchase.

This would be great for home use, but for the classroom it lacks durability. Also, it needs to be taken apart to store while not in use. (Too large for cupboard space) It is very attractive and the kids love it!

The most interested child is an autistic young man who will not let anyone else play with it when he is. He takes the figurines to rest time with him. If no other child ever plays with this toy I have still gotten my moneys worth. One more thing, I couldn't find it the other day to put some of the accesories back in and found it a little while later sitting in a puddle getting ready to set sail.

Purchased for a 3 1/2 year old, who loves it. One on the wooden flags comes off easily and the pirates does not want to stand. We just put together and he has only played with it for a few minutes. Not sure how it will last, but like the durability of the wood. It is good for his imagination and he really likes it. That is what is important to us. He wanted gold in his treasure chest and it is not deep enough to hold a coin.

My daughter saw this ship at the toy store and immediately put it on her birthday list for her 4th birthday. We found it [...] and she was thrilled to get it. It is a very nice wooden toy, though we are a little concerned that her younger brother may do some damage if left unattended with this toy. The figurines look scary to me, but that seems to be part of the appeal. There are several compartments and some of our other princess figurines have already been taken prisoner or asked to walk the plank.

We purchased this item for our son's third birthday because it matched the pirate party theme and it had good reviews. The item was well made, easy to put together, and quite big. We also purchased the coordinating playmat, and our little one is having a great time pretending to be a pirate on the high seas (we give him some additional accessories to elaborate on his play...an eyepatch, pretend gold coins, etc.). Some of the other pirate ships out there made of plastic offer some more feedback; however, we favored this one because it helps with imaginative play and will make a great collector's item when he tires of playing with it. Lastly, Step 2 had a wonderful sale on the item which made the choice quite easy.

This is a nice sized ship. The directions are not that clear on putting it together, but it is easy to figure out. The included pieces (Treasure chest, pail, mop, etc) are pretty small. The men don't all stand up well on their own. Overall, the ship itself is good quality. If your child carries it around alot or plays hard with it, you may have to push some things back in place (Mast, sails, flags). These parts are only held together on pegs. Due to the small pieces, it is more for an older 3 year old and higher.

This is really a great looking ship, my grandkids love the pirates and the size of the ship itself, I would not recommend for smaller children some pieces may easily break if dropped, however made of good quality and if used with care should last for years. We painted the little wood pcs. that came with the ship and now they also look so realistic! Would recommend to others to purchase!

It was a little bit of a project to assemble - but the directions were good. The finished project is a gorgeous, functional toy that my 3 year old hasn't stopped playing with yet. The fact that it comes with pirates and fun wooden accessories was a nice touch.

bought this for my nephew's birthday. It was a big hit at the party all the boys were fithting over it. my daughter even played with it for a couple hours before we took it.easy to put together.

Wonderful attention to detail. The pirate ship is good size, but not heavy. My son is almost 4 and can carry it around. I would have liked the boat to be a bit wider for more boat playing space, but wouldn't think twice about purchasing it again. Really nice toy!

This ship is HUGE! It is made of hardwood and is of such quality, like a nice collector's item, that we proudly display it on our living room coffee table as well. Your child will LOVE this ship...and so will the kid in you! [...]I did not EVEN hesitate to purchase this produst as a gift for our pirate-loving 3-yr old daughter. The price was an incredible bargain considering the quality of the merchandise. Enjoy!

My autistic child is really into Pirates. He enjoys playing with the pirates more than the ship itself. It is very good for his imaginitive play (something that autistic children lack). However this ship was really hard to assembly and it had several small parts. Some of the parts were missing or so small they were lost in the carpet during assembling! It is very detail oriented, something a typical child may enjoy more! Overall though...8/10

I purchased this product for my sons daycare and it fell apart the first day. The assembly is poor. It is not sturdy once it is put together. Only 2 or 3 boys were playing with this when it broke. The kids love the looks of it so the teacher is going to try to glue it.

This ship was better then expected. However the age range for 3+ should probably be moved to 5+ being the figurines are a little on the scary side.

Overall wonderful quaility, and don't have to worry about lead paint. My boys love it, but are a little rough on it being it is so nice.

Our 3 1/2 year old son got this from us for Christmas and he loves playing with the pirates and moving the big ship around the house. We constantly hear him talking and pretending stories and it's Great! Another sellling point to us that it's made of wood and very easy to assemble.

This should have been labeled better for older children I purchased it for my 2 1/2 yr old grandson it doesn't stay together for that age and the parts are very small. I have purchased much better products over the years from Step 2.

My kids were pirates for Halloween, so I thought this would be a fun gift to tie in with the theme for a Christmas gift. First of all, I was very impressed with the pirate ship right when we opened it. I guess I didn't expect the whole thing to be constructed out of wood, but it is! It was easy to put together & the directions were great. It looks so much cooler than I thought I would, and the detail is awesome--like the ladders that go from the side of the boat to the top of the sails, the hole in the side of the boat for the cannon, and so much more.

The only con, if any, is that the man with the peg leg can't stand up on his own, but that doesn't stop me from recommending the toy.

My son likes everything about this ship. He is older than the 3+ but has so many hi-tech and advanced toys that he doesn't get much good pretend play in, so this is awesome for that. We like that the pirates are holding their own weapons and that they are realistic, not cartoonish. Any kid that's into pirates will love this toy. The ship was surprisingly easy to put together--my son did most of it! And the sails are bright and gorgeous.

I bought the pirate ship for my three year old grandson as a reward when he finally became potty trained. Both he and hs 5 year old brother love the ship. My husband put it up in a few minutes. The only problem is the top flag often easily comes off. This is quite frustrating. The pet to fit it in tight is not long enough. I am going to try gluing it in. All of us love the pirate figures. They are colorful and detailed. I was upset at firts because they could not hold different swords, guns, etc like the ones his older brother has. Finally decided it was great that they are permanently attached since they don't frustrate him by continually falling out of the hands, and I don't have to hunt for tiny parts.

I purchased 2 for the grandkids. Both had the same problem where the forward sail would not stay attached at the top. I had to glue them. From an engineering point of view, I would have used wooden dowels instead for expanding plastic.

I was very impressed by the detail of this pirate ship. I couldn't wait to assemble it. I ended up assembling it at his party. My mother commented that it was so nice it could be a decoration. The price was reasonable. The action figures that come with the ship are great no loose weapons for me to keep helping my son attach. The pirate ship came with cute accessories. Very happy with this item.

great action toy for a 4 year old. We got it just after Peter Pan was on DVD. The pirates in the box were just what she needed to imagine she was there.[...]
