The Main street Village collection is a great starter. My daughter (18 mons) loves it. She especially enjoys the cottage, the people, and all the cars. The sounds were quite a surprise for both of us but just add to the enjoyment without being too much. I would recommend this collection or any part of it to friends. She plays with it daily (and mom & dad think its pretty cool too!).

I am very pleased with my purchase. There were 3 things that did not work; the sound effect to the toilet flush, and the veternarian vehicle sound did not work and the umbrella to the top of the cafe does not stay in.My grandchildren were visiting for a week and due to time, I was not able to exchange my order to replace the deffective 3 items. Thank you for your [...]reasonable pricing. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and I am planning on adding to this collection for my Grandchildren.

This is a fantastic product that encourages imaginative play. The figures are just the right size for small fingers, and the many sounds spark delight. The playmat is very large, enabling the child to add on some of their other toys as well as to add other Town Square collections. I bought it for my grand-daughter's 2nd birthday, and she did not want to quit playing with it to open other gifts. Her 3 year old male cousin also was intrigued with it. It is a toy that provides hours of imaginative play. We love it and will buy the others in the collection!

I bought this collection for my daughter at 19 months. Since getting it she plays with it almost everyday. She loves pushing the sound buttons and playing with the people/animals. I haven't set up the puzzle mat because she isn't ready for it yet. If she sees that the puzzle comes apart she will want to take it apart and put the pieces in her mouth. I will bring it out when she is a little older. Otherwise I think it's a great first village set for a toddler and I'm really happy with my purchase.

Our new favorite toys!

Pros:
Fun, Sturdy
Best Uses:
Young Children
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this set for my daughter's 3rd birthday, and she loves it, as does our 20 month old daughter! They are enjoying it much more than they have any of the competitor's sets we own. I don't know what the difference is for them, but they seem to really get into the role playing with the Step 2 products. I love it because these toys are not only sturdy, but they are much less cartoony than the other brands' playsets. We are thrilled with this set, and we recently ordered the farm and a few other things to round out our collection!

Children 2 and 5yrs. love it
By Mandala family from Chicago, IL on 6/11/2008
Pros:
Affordable, Easy Assembly, Fun, Sturdy, Suit wide age range, Weather Resistant
Best Uses:
School, Young Children
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My children had very few "people" and no "playhouse" toys and so I was searching for an affordable toy that would suit them, ages 2 and 5yrs. After comparing other distributors and products online and at the major toy store, I was most attracted to all the Mainstreet set offered [...]. I honestly don't think you will find a better deal than this! From the day this toy arrived, they have played with it everyday. The craftmanship on all pieces is excellent; paint on the people not entirely perfect though, and the umbrella for the bakery does not stay in its holder, but the children still love it and these are minimal issues. For what's on the market, this is the best.

We purchased this set for our son's second birthday. He especially loves the music that comes from the cottage's tv set. We are amazed at the detail on each piece. The bonus is that our 4-year-old has enojyed playing with this as well. Like another reviewer, I would have found it helpful to have a list of what was included in the set (as well as a list of what pieces are supposed to have sound). We kept referring to the box cover to make sure we had everything, and I suspect that one of the pieces we have is supposed to make noises, but it doesn't. Other than that, a great set that encourages imaginative play!

The kids like the collection, but become very frustrated when doors fall off and the umbrella on the top of the bakery is useless! It just falls off! There's no way for it to stay attached. There are definately many parts that need to be re-designed.

My three year old loves this toy and all the accessories. It is gender-neutral and is fun for both boys and girls. The puzzle mat provides a sturdy village atmosphere for imaginary play and the buildings and accessories can be moved around in several different configurations. There are several buildings, vehicles, animals, and people to play with for the kids. The sound effects are cute, and and the toy set is very engaging for youngsters. It is a sturdy toy except for the umbrella which does not fit properly. We used some glue to fix it. It is a favorite toy here and I can't wait to buy more to add to the village.

These are great sets. Very cute and my daughter loves them. I was looking for an American made alternative to similar toys on the market. I did not realize these are made in China when I ordered them. (It is clearly stated, I just did not read the entire description.) It is a shame how hard it is to get American made products. Bravo on the products Step 2 DOES make here. Hopefully they will bring their other lines to the states as well.

My two grandchildren, ages 18 months and 4, expand their imaginations while playing with the buildings, figures and road on the playmat. The 4 year old boy even uses the roads for his small die cast cars as well. The only drawback is that the playmat puzzle is too slippery for children who like to run across it.

Village is great, play mat is not

Cons:
Flimsy, Umbrella Piece did not fi
Best Uses:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The village itself is great. My 19 month old and 3 year old both love it (and play with it in different ways). There are quite a few sounds with it which they like. My two complaints are (1) the mat is made out of paper and will break easily; and (2) the umbrella that is supposed to snap into the cafe does not and does not come close to fitting (this is a small item). Yes the mat is sturdy paper, but paper none the less and will not stand up to little kids very long. Also it does not work on carpet (it breaks apart). I would buy the village without the mat if I had it to do over again.

My son received the town square collection from Santa. He hasn't stopped playing with it since. I loved that it was ready to play with when I removed it from the box. All of the pieces were pre-assembled and batteries already installed. The detail in all of the buildings is great, especially the cottage. There is even a computer by the kids' bunkbed! My son will enjoy this for a long time and it is sturdy enough to be passed down to his younger brother.

Adorable Pretend Play for Preschooler

Bottom Line:

My 3-year-old daughter received this for Christmas and has not stopped playing with it. At first, I'd hesitated ordering it as she already had some Little People sets and this seemed a little pricy in comparison. Once it arrived, however, I was quite impressed by the quality and details of each piece. I can see that she will play with it for a couple of years, so am happy with the investment. I also love the fact that there are additional pieces available for birthdays and special occasions. What an easy suggestion for grandparents!

I initially considered MainStreet Village because my son had enjoyed playing with this product at a friend's house when he was young -- At the time, we were living in Europe and he had a Scottish playmate. The product is sold in the UK under a different name. My son and his playmate spent hours together imagining wonderful stories! The set was so big that they could easily share the many pieces. It is also quite gender neutral so that boys and girls can play happily.

My hope is that Step2 will continue to bring more of the European pieces into this line. (The carnival set and harbor set are especially cute!)

We love this product. It keeps our 3-year-old busy using his imagination. It helps to read the product information PDF for this toy on the Step 2 website because it specifically notes all the sounds the town makes (door bell, stove top, TV, etc.) Also, I had to call customer service to inquire about something and they were very helpful. Since we've ordered this product, I've ordered another cool Step 2 product! Can't wait to receive it!

I don't know who enjoys it more...me or my daughter. We bought this in conjunction with other Main Street Collections. We spend hours spreading out the playmats, and building our village. She just turned three, but I think I have more fun with it than she does. It really brought back a small part of my childhood. If I had to say anything negative it would be that the puzzle mat is a thick paper/cardboard product. My daughter is notorious for ripping up her board books, and I fear that it is only a matter of time before these suffer the same wrath. Also, do beware if you buy the entire collection as a group, you don't get instructions....but it isn't all that hard to figure out where things belong.
