This particular purchase was a gift, but as a former family childcare provider, I also owned one.
It was used indoors as well as outdoor. I would put more than water in it, and was used year round.
It was a great help on days of inclement weather.
I would use it with rice, shaving creme, snow, and water. In other words, a sensory table. I would consider it, a necessary object for child development. I'm sure I'll be buying more as gifts.

We bought this almost two years ago for my son's first birthday and it's still a beloved outside toy! When the weather was just a tad too cool for swimming, I would fill the water table up for some fun play time. My son loved it from day one and STILL adores it! The winter after we purchased it I filled it with white rice and let my son play with it this way for a month. The rice scratched up his cheap dollar store plastic buckets but didn't harm the water table plastic one bit! The water wheel is now a permanent tub toy that he plays with every single night while the water table is currently stored for the winter in the garage but used all spring & summer plus any time we have playdates. This is one of just three toys my son got that year that he still plays with. I would tell parents to NOT hesitate and just buy it! My son has 'early markers' for ADHD and this is one of very, very few toys that slows him down longer than 90 seconds! (He'll play independently at the table for nearly 15 minutes while other toys only hold his attention for 45-90 seconds. Honest.)

Not so great: The little toy boats don't hold up forever, especially if your child likes to take things apart. It wasn't a big deal - we replaced them with a sturdy set of Little Tykes boats and honestly, my son liked playing "car wash" with this table and mostly ignored the boats any ways!

Be Aware: A couple do-not-get-wet battery operated toys lost their 'talking' ability after a dunk in the table. Personally I find the quiet to be nice but you'll want to keep battery-powered toys away!

We use the Water Wheel Play Toy as a beside-the-pool toy, so it is not used year round, but it's been used for three summers straight and it has not lost any of its appeal. My 3 and 5 year old LOVE LOVE LOVE this toy. They watch the water run, they play boats and they create their own aquarium with (non-included) fish and sea mammals. The colors have dimmed only a little bit from the sun and all of the parts are still in good working order. I highly recommend this product to anyone who has kids who love water - and who doesn't? Now they are playing in the sink and I wish it was summer again.

I chose this water table based on other reviews and it's great. It's simple, the right height for little kids and not too deep. I think this will be great fun for our daughter for years, as we can add more complex toys as she gets older. The water wheel works great and always catches her attention, too. I would definitely recommend this table. I don't know how well it will hold up to older kids, since we don't have any yet, so I'm curious to see how it holds up over the long haul.

My extra-tall 3 year old loves this water table, but due to his height it's a little awkward. Wish the legs could be adjusted for height differences. Also when pushed or leaned on (as kids do) the legs aren't super sturdy and the whole table moves. Those are my only complaints. Besides that the table gives hours of fun and we're looking forward to moving it inside in the winter for use with dry items such as sand or beans.

This is a cute little water/sand table for the little ones to enjoy outside. You can use water in the Summer months and sand in the Fall. Easy to fill and empty, as well as clean. The only con I have is it's size, but that's only if you have 3 children attempting to play with it at the same time. If it was slightly wider, it would work better. This is the only reason for the 4 star rating.

My almost 3yr old daughter plays with it all the time and gets soaked in the process! At a party recently we discovered it's best if only 2 kids use it at the same time. It's not big enough otherwise. I find it lightweight enough to tip over and dump out when needed.

This table is great and my son is really enjoying it! Like others said, the only con is that the tower can't click in to stay put. My son grabs onto it with one hand to try and fill it with the other and it topples down on him. Other than that, it is a huge hit!

I have 20 month old twins and am always looking for an easy way to fill twenty minutes and this table works great. I love this product! We'd had a small blow-up pool for the kids to play in but it was difficult to clean and would kill the grass if it sat there too long. This table is easy to fill, easy to clean, and endless entertainment for the kids. They brought out all their pretend pots and pans from their play kitchen so they had plenty of things to play with in the water. It's portable and was fun for all the little kids who were here during a recent barbecue. Money well spent!

This water table is so much fun. My son spends hours playing with it. It holds his attention well unlike other toys he has. This is the best investment we've made so far. I like that the water wheel tower is not attached to the table because my son loves to move it around and positions it where he wants which is good for his creativity. It seems sturdy enough though the legs seems wobbly at times. One thing though, I think there should have been a drain plug built in this water table for easy draining/cleaning when the kids are done playing. Over all my son loves it and that's all that matters.

I purchased this water table for my two and four year old boys. I was worried the four year old may not enjoy it as much. Both equally enjoy the table. They have used it for all sorts of creative tasks (washing their clothes, making "soup" with pods from the tree in the yard). I have loved this toy since I pulled it out of the box! I have an almost 3-year old son and I also watch 5 other kids from my home. This toy is a huge hit! Great product! I use this water table in my Family Daycare. It is large enough for 4 kids to play at one time. The only thing wrong with the design is that the water wheel tower doesn't stay put. All you need is one child to insist on touching the water wheel tower and every one is crying. So we play with it when you know who isn't here.

My 2-year-old son absolutely LOVES this water table. He plays with it for hours. He enjoys pouring water through the water wheel tower and splashing water all over himself. I like the fact that the water wheel is not attached to the table so that my son can put it on the lower level where he can reach it better. He's not tall enough to reach the top of the tower to pour the water through it yet. I was watching him sovle the problem himself. He moved it down from the station and put it in the lagoon level closer in front of him so he could reach it. He gave me a big smile like "Are you proud of me, mommy?" The assemble only took 2 minutes. Only one thing I wish it had is a drain plug. I think it's useful and kind of necessary for a water table to include that feature. That's why I only gave it 4 stars.

Our 13-month old boy loves this toy and has so far had a blast splashing about and playing with the cups. He's not quite old enough to figure out the water wheel feature, but he does like batting at the wheel to make it spin. I just let him at it in his diaper, as he ends up totally wet, splashing around and pouring water outside the table onto our deck. The only con is that we live in San Francisco, and the summers are so cool that we don't get to play with this very often. However, I think it will work well as a sand table if we find that the water isn't used very often. Overall, I think this is a good value, even though it's a very simple toy. I think our boy will enjoy it for quite a while, as he grows and figures out other ways to play and splash.

This kept the kids busy for hours. I have a 3 and 1 year old who kept pouring water over the water wheel over and over and over.... My only cons is that the water wheel is not secured against the table so the younger one kept taking it off the table! The sailboats that come along with the toys are not as bouyant and kept falling over.

My daughter lover her water wheel play table. It is durable as she has climbed in it several times and it is very stable. My only complaint is that it does not include a cover or a drain plug which means I have to replace the water each day and it is a bit difficult to dump out, however for the price I think it is well worth it. It is larger and holds quite a bit more water than I thought it would.

My 2 year old and 4 year old love this toy. It entertains them for a long time. It's simplicity leaves no room for error or break downs, like some other similar models containing pumps. The only improvement I could see being made is having a plug in the bottom to drain, but mainly to make the table easier to clean when the time comes.

This was great for my son, who is 19 months old. He loves to play with the water wheel, and the cup that comes with it is great. He loves to use it to pour water on himself. The water table entertains him for longer than any of his other toys do. The only negative I have is that I wish it had a cover so I could leave the water in it without bugs collecting in the water overnight.

This is a great toy and is easy to assemble, is sturdy, and leads to creative play. The colors are bright and make it an inviting toy. First time grandmother, I wanted an easy outside water toy but not a pool. 2 yr old grandson loves filling and emptying it and pouring water over the watermill. Might be nice if the watermill was attached but it is easy to put it upright. I like the height, just right for short legs. Think he will enjoy it all summer.

This is a great product! My 1 year old loves this water table, but I have found that my 3 year old gets quite bored after about 10 minutes. Definitely for younger kids, but overall I am pleased. It was easy to put together and fill, and provides some entertainment, other than a pool.

Our daughter Emma (age 5) and our son Benny (age 20 months) play with it side by side. I bought large sea shells and the love playing with them in the water and slashing around. I am a mom to 19 month old triplets. We bought the water table for some new summer entertainment and they are loving it. At this age, most activites only last 15-20 minutes, but they play with the water table for 30-45 min at a time without getting bored. My only complaint (and its a tiny one) is that they dismantle the water wheel in about 10 seconds and I am constantly putting it back together. But they love it.

I bought this for my 15 month old, who loves water. However, my 6 and 4 year old are enjoying it just as much, if not more. You do have to empty it each time, or the water will get dirty and attract bugs. And since my 15 month old tries to drink the water, it's best to keep it clean. It's a little difficult to empty, no plug or drain. Filling it just requires a water hose or several trips with the water pitcher. I liked the fact that this was a water table and not a sand and water table. Those have never worked well. The water and sand mix, then you just have a mud table, clogging up all the draining toys. The water tower is fun, but do wish it popped into place to stay put. It falls over easily.

I think they could have had something great here but instead they missed something and created a boring toy, I thought this would be great but is not. Instead the kids get bored with it after 5 min they have more fun spilling the water out trying to make mud than playing with the boats. My kids are 4 and 2 we have owned this for two years. It is hard to empty too, it would have been nice if they had given a little thought about that in the design.

I shopped extensively for the right water table. And it was a hit: Our son (30" tall) loved the WaterWheel Play Table for his first birthday! A boy who loves to splash, pour, and play with toys in water, this was a big hit outside of the tub! We use it on our deck, backyard, and in the frontyard too. It's portable from one location to another, empty of course. My two year old daughter (38" tall) also has fun with it. They both use other water toys in it. The only downside are the sailboats that are included sink easily with play, but that certainly doesn't distract from the imaginative play that occurs at the water table. Aside from the boats, it would be great if it came with a cover to be able to reuse the same water a time or two (of course, what remains after play), but also to keep debris out when not in use, but short of that...it's perfect for a little water lover.

This is a fun toy for kids age 1-3 however it could use a few improvements: A cover similar to the sand and water cart, and more toys or activities for kids to do with it. Simple things like funneling water or adding a hand powered pump to swirl water around would keep kids interested longer.

my son told me the minute he set it up, his 2 yr old and 5 yr old started playing and had to be pryed away at dinner time. They live in Tx..where the days are @ 95-100 degrees now, and consider it safe to leave the kids alone to play on the deck with it. nicest feature is the fact that it can be emptied each night and refilled easily the next day.

My 2yo with Down Syndrome loves this table with rice (soon be warm enough for water). It has been encouraging her to stand and play. The sensory play of running her hands and arms through it is perfect for her (as will the water be fun to watch and play in). We hide little toys in the rice and use the cup for pouring it out. My other children (9,7,5) have also loved playing in it. My eldest and the neigbor boy wanted to fill it with water the other day to play! Definitely an outside toy, but one we already love.

This is a great water table. I purchased this product for my 18 month old to use in the backyard. It is the perfect size for her, and would easily accommodate play with 1 or 2 other kids. You can put a good amount of water in it. Now she can splash all she wants!

I will have to use some caution because she is a climber, and she has the urge to get in it, which obviously is not appropriate for this product.

With two large outdoor dogs my grandson does not have as much pool time as we would like. Having the water wheel play table he can have fun in the sun with his water toys and not have to share a pool with the dogs. My twin girls received this for their first birthday. We've used it twice on our patio and they seem to really enjoy it. I just wish the tower that holds the water wheel could be attached in some way, as one of my daughters keeps taking it off. The water table should have a solid bottom or be manufactured with a lid. If you leave it standing up it gets filled with rain water but if you turn it over the bottom is filled with water.

My son played with it nearly every day on our deck this past summer -it really kept him occupied. Sometimes we filled it with bubbles, mini plastic fish, or fake bugs. He loved scooping the water up and making the water wheel turn. He always got soaked but thats okay. It's a good size, easy to fill, easy to empty. Looking forward to using it again this summer for play dates. My only suggestion would be to make it a bit taller or the side lip shorter so you could scoot a chair under to sit at and still reach.

I got this for my younger sons birthday, with the intention that he and my older son could both use it. There is plenty enough room for both, however my 1 yr old isnt that interested in it. My 15 month old loves to play with it, he can spend hours playing with water and this toy is perfect for him, but since he is tall he also climbs on it and uses it like a very dangerous pool, I turned around for 10 secs and when I saw him he was already on the table, so I had to take off the legs so he wouldn´t fall. Also it doesn´t have a hole to let the water out.

THe kids love this water table. It works better for kids under 4 as it is a small table. I havent had it out this summer because my neighbors must of stoled the pieces for it so I have been looking to replace the top for the water wheel and the bucket it came with. Size is perfect for our one year old to stand up and hold onto. We added our own cups (smaller so smaller hands can grab-with handles). He and his cousin (same age) love to stand and splash. The table is tall enough so it is not easy for them to lean over and put their faces in. Older brothers like it too, using the water wheel, etc.

I purchased this water table for my 2 children ages 15 months old and 3 year old who love splashing around in water. We have a very small back yard and wished to get something that would keep my little ones entertained for hours during the warm summer months and this item fit the bill. Although it is true the water tower does tumble over easily my children are so entertained with the water table. I initially thought it would be too small but it appears to be perfect for my two and forget it when the bring their other boats, pots and tea cups their imaginations run wild. It was a great deal for the price. The only thing that is a hassle is the fact that I have to consistently bring it in and out of the garage, and wash it in the event that any water gets in it from the rain. It would be ideal if they devised a cover for it.

No batteries! No fuss! Engaging-he can do it himself once Mommy fills it up with water. He can splash and play and is thoroughly entertained by the movements of the toy made by the water. IT is a good height too.

People who think there should be a drain plug should realize original Step2 water tables had two drain plugs that always leaked so were properly eliminated. Very easy to fill and drain.

The water/sand tables seem to be the new craze in educational toys and my kids LOVE to play in the water so I have been looking at all of the water tables. This one was by far the best value. I have a two year old and a one year old and it is the perfect size for them yet big enough for them to use for a couple more years.
