My grandson (3) was pleased and began using the kitchen more than usual. Also, he has a cash register that he found would ring up the food as he slide each piece on the scanner, he then proceded to bag the food in a recyleable bag and brought it "home" to prepare in the step 2 kitchen I have at my home so we can prepare dinners together.

Our 2-year-old daughter loves this food set. The pieces fit well within her Step 2 kitchen and accessories (pots, pans). Most foods are recognizable, although there are a few mysteries. It doesn't seem to bother our daughter one way or the other what the foods are ... she still has fun using them. Since this set is so large, we just put out about 1/3 of the foods at a time to minimize the clean up at the end of the day.

This is a great set of food for the price. My son absolutely loves it! It has just about anything you can think of. The only problem I found was some of the pieces are on the small side. My son is 1 1/2 years and still likes to put some things in his mouth, so I had to take away a couple pieces. All in all, this is still the best food assortment I have found and with so many pieces included in the set, he never missed the few I had to remove. I would highly recommend this product.

Really 101 pieces. Most are identifiable, some require creativity in description (since my 2 1/2 yr old needs to know what each one is). Good size, though not to scale. I don't feel uncomfortable letting my 2 1/2 yr old share with my 9 month old since none of the pieces are small enough to swallow. My daughter likes to play grocery store and then cook me dinner in her kitchen.

Over spring break, I purchased this set of food and the *fantastic* Step2 Party Kitchen. My goal for the purchases was to encourage my 18 month old son to engage in more imaginative and interactive play. This set of play food provides wonderful variety and the pieces are good representations of the foods. Upon seeing the peas, my son said "Peas!!" with delight. One great thing about the food is that it is made of different kinds of plastics that help enhance the item. As examples, the cheese slice is bendable and smooth, the bell peppers are shiny, and the pineapple slice is textured and shaped like a slice. It is "just some plastic food" but it is well done. None of the pieces violate the official choking hazard but I did throw away the three french fries because they were small (but nicely scaled to the hamburger.) This leaves us with 98 pieces of play food which is more than enough. As to the made in China issue, I am concerned, but I have trust in Step2, my son seems to need some play food and this was the best alternative I found.

We were surprised to find multi-cultural foods included in the set; i.e., sushi, tacos, and some we aren't even sure what they are. :-) But our 22-month-old granddaughter is delighted to use & pretend to eat what is there and enjoys having a bigger selection. The minute she walks in our door, she takes Grandma or Grandpa's finger and says "Kitchen?" - that's all she's interested in doing while visiting. Thanks for enhancing her Kitchen play time with these great accessories.

My 25 month old loves this food set along with her new Dream Kitchen. The fruits and veggies are great (she pretends she is shopping at the Farmer's Market). The scale is off on everything (for example, the celery stalk is not much larger than the strawberry), but it doesn't matter - she doesn't seem to notice. There are multiples of some items, so we practice counting. I especially like the ethnic food that was included because it represents food we eat. I was pleasantly surprised to discover the tofu, and bottle of soy sauce. The fettucine noodles double as Japanese udon noodle in our house, and the spaghetti as soba noodles. They are perfect with the shrimp tempura! I removed the food we don't eat in our house like doughnuts, fries, and bacon. My preference would be for the play set to only have healthy food (i.e. it was missing carrots), but with 100 pieces to choose from, it should have wide appeal for all.

Our 2.5 yr old enjoys playing with her kitchen set and play food. The pieces are very colorful with some attention to detail, however some are rather small and may pose a choking risk - particularly the french fries, onion rings, etc. Not a big deal though, we just removed them from the "pile" until our daughter is a little older.

I love that this food set has a variety of food from fruit to tacos to sushi. Unfortunately, the proportions could be improved. For example, the shrimp are larger than the eggplant and the strawberry and orange are the same size. I also wish it had some packaged items like milk, rice, cereal, etc. Since the set is recommended for ages 3+, there were some items that posed a choking hazard and had to be removed until my daughter (2 years) is older. But since there are so many pieces, we don't mind a few missing ones. But, it would be nice if Step 2 would make food accessories for younger children since they make kitchens for them. In all, though, the food is lots of fun to pretend with and there's so much of it that you can create a menu larger than most restaurants. Just make sure you wash it all first. It helps with the plastic smell.

We purchased this set with the Deluxe Kitchen and are glad we did. The variety is wonderful. We could do without the donuts and other pastries, but otherwise it is great. There are mexican, american, italian, sushi, etc. selections of food. Plus there are a lot of fruits and vegetables. We aren't quite sure what a few of the foods are, but that is where a little childhood creativity can come into play. I would definitely recommend this set to anyone who has purchased or is purchasing a kitchen for their child.

This food assortment is a must for any kitchen! The variety of foods are amazing and there always at least 2 of each item. For example there are cookies, meats, breads, eggs, cauliflower, peas, beans, fruits and even sushi and soy sauce. Excellent variety of food types and also group choices such as breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack items. There are not any beverage items which would have been nice. We bought this in conjunction with the Deluxe Kitchen and we are glad we did as the kitchen did not come with any food items but the kitchen has ample storage for all 104 items.

I was surprised that 101 pieces of food came in a box the size of a shoe box. The play food also seemed more oriented to the West Coast area and not the Mid-West.

The assortment we received was very different than what was pictured. There were not any "cans" or "boxes"... and although it is a little silly to have sushi and fried shrimp in a food playset - it's a cute assortment for the most part and serves its purpose.
Step2 Response: We have transitioned to a new food that replaces boxes and cans with actual food. The pictures at Step2.com accurately reflect the new food assortment. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused!

My granddaughter of 18 months loves these foods, and she is learning their names. She uses them in her "kitchen" and loves to "cook" for everyone.

The pieces are sturdy, but some of the food pieces are very difficult to tell what they are. We were disappointed finding out that this was NOT made in the USA, like the majority of their other products are. The pieces are very sturdy and will last a very long time.

My daughter really love to play with this food and it has held up very well, since she is still putting everything in her mouth. We have not given her the can good with the paper wrap just yet.

This product would be better suited to 5 year olds, my daughter who is 3 still in the age requirements crushed the boxes and ripped off the labels. The plastic foods were excellent though.

The only downfall I found in the food assortment was the price. I found a similar set at my local toy store for [$] and it came with a handy little basket to store the stuff in. Even some of the designs of the food items were incredibly similar, which I found odd because it isn't the same company. Great product, just a bit overpriced.
Great enjoyment for imaginative toddler
