Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unfinished and Ugly We purchased two of these beds for our 5 and 4 year old boys last March. We are now getting ready to move our youngest into his first big boy bed. I went online to purchase a third one since all my boys will be sharing a room. I was shocked to see that the doors have been removed and replaced with totes. The new bed looks unfinished and ugly. I do like the new added color but I prefer the natural look better. I think you should have the option of doors/totes and a color option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would recommend this bed I love this bed! As does my three year son. He can climb in and out and feels like a big boy! I'm happy to not have to deal with side rails and know that he won't fall out.Assembly was easy. I did most myself - had my husband help with a couple screws that were a touch angle. It's very sturdy. My seven year old loves going on it with him and it will hold me as well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks awful I was so excited for this bed to come when I ordered it. I saw online that the bed did not come with doors but was expecting it to come with atleast the totes. It doesn't. After the bed was put together I stepped back and took a good look and thought for sure there were missing pieces. The front looks unfinished and upon doing some research online I found it was because the item doesn't come with doors. If I would have know the finished product would look like it does, I would have never purchased it! Very disappointed. I will not be recommending this to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great choice for growing young boys This is a great bed for our 3-year-old. He sleeps better in it than he did in his toddler bed.Assembly was straightforward and intuitive, and it's sturdy enough for his rough demeanor. Plus, we don't have to worry about buying a guardrail to keep him from falling out.We do wish it still came with the doors (you can see a place for them on the lower part of the frame), but that does not diminish from its value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute bed The bed is much longer than it looks so bed could be used until 8 or 9 years old. The materials used are strong and sturdy, very good quality. Really cute! The bed arrived around the time I expected it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from We love this bed! My son loves this bed! He loves that he can crawl under the bed- he calls it his "cave" and plays happily there. The bed is sturdy and I love that he won't fall out with the higher sides. It can be difficult to change the sheets, but that's not a big issue. Overall, it's a good bed and we're happy with our purchase.#sweepstakes

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great looking bed for a toddler and big enough for adult. Love the bed as it is sized for a toddler and big enough for an adult. Very safe as it is impossible for a child to fall out. A little challenging to change sheets but better than bunk beds and Great for storing toys. Would like to see the option of having the doors to hide the toys and kids loved hiding under it too!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not as nice! I went on line today to order the Step 2 bed as I remembered it. Only could find the one without the doors. Do not like the remake of this bed! So disappointed! Really liked the other one with doors as well as the other natural color. I agree with others that this model definitely looks unfinished! I wil not buy this bed ! I really had my heart set on the other one ! I will look elsewhere!

I see many complaining about lack of doors on the bottom. Does it really look that bad? Was thinking of ordering for my three year old who wants ladder to climb to bed, but who is too young for bunk beds.
Asked by: Suzanne O.
We suggest looking at the pictures provided on our website . This unit has received an equal amount of pro and cons from our consumers and not having the doors does not affect the quality or integrity of the unit.

My boys are 3 years apart and I knew that I would be buying a second one of these when my second child was old enough to convert to a toddler bed, so I log on to buy a second one for my younger child and the bed is now sold incomplete...seriously??? Completely disappointed!!! Why did you remove the doors from this model??? The holes/hinges are even still in the picture...it will look as though you forgot to put the doors on, it really looks incomplete. I own one of these beds and it has the doors...was there a problem with the doors and I was not notified??? If not, why would you remove them...what's the old saying; "if it's not broke, don't fix it!" I see that other consumers are requesting you put the doors back on... Step2 has always been a trusted company and I've always felt safe to buy your products due to how solid the product is...I'm disappointed that the company has decided to start cutting corners and create cheap and incomplete products.
Asked by: Samantha H.
I apologize for the inconvenience. The decision for the Loft & Storage Twin Bed™ to not come with doors was a design change to allow easier access to the underneath storage area.

I almost purchased the bed for my three year old but If im understanding correctly the blue doors on the bed are not included anymore? If that is true can you replace the picture on the website with a true picture of what ACTUALLY comes with the bed so consumers can make an informed purchase and maybe cut down on the negative reviews.
Asked by: Samantha H.
Apparently there were doors that covered the two opening where the toy bins are in the picture.. I bought this bed for my three year old grandson and we don't miss the doors at all..! He loves it.. I love it..! I would buy it again..!

Where are the doors!? Why can't we purchase the doors for this bed or why were they removed from the previous model to the new one? My ex wife has this bed for my son and I was super excited when I found it, but it looks cheap and useless without the doors on!? Completely bummed because that was the whole reason I wanted it, was to have a place to hide/store his toys or have a play area for him to hide in! Please add the doors or make them available as an accessory purchase?
Asked by: Matthew P.
At this time we do not currently have plans to add doors to the bed but we will be sure to pass the suggestion on internally.

Why exactly is a box spring not recommended and your supposed to use a board instead? Is it dangerous? I can't see how.
Asked by: Matthew P.
A box spring would elevate the mattress which is not recommended, where a bunkie board only provides support.

Has the company decided to create a new "version" of this bed WITH doors?
Asked by: Matthew P.
At this time, a version with doors is not available.
Answered by: Tena C.

I actually have the old version of this with the doors on the bottom and 1) want to know if both sides had handles cause mine only has them on 1 side. And 2) is anyone else's child awkward about getting out of this thing? My 3 year old looks weird getting off, like the top stair step is just a bit too high.
Asked by: Matthew P.
I have the new model and there are no doors on bottom, both sides are open. No problem for my 3 year old to get out, no. He & we love this bed!

I know the description says a support board is needed for this bed. Is there any type of support with the bed - rails across where the mattress goes? Also, what are the dimensions from the base (where the mattress lays) to the top of the pink sides? Thank you!
Asked by: Randy M.
There are two types of support rails that are included with the Loft & Storage Bed. There are two wood rails that go on each end of the bed. Also, the two plastic rails go in the middle in between each side of the ladder. It is 20" in depth from base to sides.

I want to get this as a big boy bed for my 3 year old but I also agree that it needs doors. I tried to find the old model but I do prefer the newer color palette. It matches his outer space theme perfectly. Any thoughts to product redesign and if so, how soon?
Asked by: Brenda B.
Thank you for your feedback. We have received multiple requests to add doors to this kid's bed and we are taking these suggestions to heart. We have been working with our product development and manufacturing teams to find the best solution for this product moving forward. For the foreseeable future, this bed is only available as pictured. If and when this product is available with doors, it will only be on a newer model of this bed. We will not be able to sell the doors separately for this current model as it would require a special tool for assembly.

How durable/practical is this bed if my daughter still likes to cuddle with me before bed? Also, what is the oldest age your children have been interested in this bed? She is 4.5 and really wants it, but I want her to enjoy it for at least the next 3 to 3.5 years. (until she is 8 maybe?)
Asked by: Lindsey L.
My daughter is a cuddler too and its not practical if you still want to do that. It only holds 300lbs and the only thing holding up the mattress is 2 pieces of wood and 2 pieces of plastic. She's 3 and she loves it but I don't think she's going to want it for another 4 years.

Referring to the earlier question and this one, if I use a standard 39x75 twin mattress, can you clarify whether there is 1 1/4 inches between the mattress and the left/right sides of the bed, the head/foot of the bed, or all sides of the bed? Thank you.

I currently have two boys that each have the old version of this bed with the doors. Now I have 2 girls I would like to buy this bed for in the pink and white, but really no doors???? Looks unstable and incomplete, you can clearly see from the pictures that the hinge holes are even there. Can you please make some pink doors and put them on this bed? I would order two right now if they had the doors. PLEASE listen to us consumers, we all want the doors back!!!! Love the girly colors though!

We do not recommend using a box spring for any of our kids beds.

The beds' dimensions are listed at 44 x 85 while standard Twin Size mattress is 48 x 75. How does that work? Isn't it a bit too wide for the mattress? I am aware that some sort of support board needs to be purchased and that takes another 40 dollars or so. It does not seem very budget friendly :( Why was it made so much wider?
Asked by: Eric L.
This loft bed fits a 39" x 75" standard twin mattress. The dimensions of this kids bed are measured from the outermost parts. Because of the loft style, a support board is required.

I went to Lowes brought a drill and put holes where the doors should be and added the doors from the older version. My daughter hates pink so I brought her the blue one.
