Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! This product is necessary for every neighbor with children. It is effective in helping to remind those driving through our neighborhood to slow down and be cautious of our children playing. However, because it is an extremely helpful and necessary product to increase safety in our neighborhoods, I REALLY wish it were not so expensive! I had to purchase 2 myself; 1 for each end of our street, and my neighbors weren't able to pitch in to pay for them, so I had to foot the bill myself. Really wish they were more like $19.99, instead of $29.99.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We named our first Kid Alert, "Bob 1" "Bob 1" did an awesome job slowing down traffic, but he was thrown over the fence multiple times, run over, and eventually "Bob Napped" with no ransom request! So our new "Bob 2" is on duty here in Sausalito in front of my driveway, and we installed a Tile PPS in case he is kidnapped. We glued it under the visor on his cap!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EXCELLENT KID ALERT PRODUCT GREAT product to get people's attention that there are children playing in the area. We place it at the beginning of a circle that people tend to speed around even though it is a condo complex and not a public road. Neighbors know there are children that may not be seen until the last minute, but they still speed so this is used at the entrance as a reminder. We do not leave it up 24 hours a day, but only put it out when the kids are outside; otherwise, the drivers will get used to seeing it and ignore it over time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kid Alert VWS I ordered seven Kid Alerts for our neighborhood, and my neighbors reimbursed me upon arrival of their Safety Guy. STEP 2 helped me with the order, and it came promptly to my door. All neighbors have their Safety Guys in the street, to slow down the cars that proceed to drive at unsafe speeds. These drivers are constantly worrying the mothers with small children and others with pets. Unfortunately, with all this good news, my Safety Guy was stolen. Should have written my name in bold letters to maybe avoid this

Rated 4 out of 5 by from needs second foot i bought two - the little man no longer comes in green i was told . the little man now only comes with one foot , but to my happy surprise , when i called step 2 customer service , they sent me two more feet , one for each little man i bought , shipping and everything free !!!! the customer service person was fantastic . i bought these two men to try to slow down vehicles on my nice wide neighborhood street . the street is more like a curved boulevard , but cannot be used as a cut-through , per se' , but some inconsiderate cut the turn close on the inside of curve and almost hit my neighbor's kids as well as my driveway apron curb . these little men basically do a good job of slowing down the inconsiderate drivers . you must make sure to drain the water out of the feet in the winter if you live in a freezing area . i suggest always fill the feet (make sure you get the second foot) with either water or sand , or , if it's windy , the little man will spin around and \ or blow down .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this Neon Child!!!! We had one of these for years while my kids were toddlers. One day, I noticed our old one was missing. I tried to find the best deal and I saw this website was offering a discount code on this item! I was so excited to get a new one, especially at such a good price!! My kids are older now but they ride bikes in the (residential) street in front of our house. I always worry about cars driving too fast or not paying attention. When my neon child is out in the street, I always feel better while my kids play outside.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Haven't Been Able to Use It! For something that should be simple to use, it is very difficult to even get it to be functional. Not only is it impossible to fit the body into the base, but the lid to keep the water in the base doesn't even fit into the opening. Sad that we haven't even been able to use it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Safety Sam is a neighborhood staple! We received Safety Sam as part of a Step2 campaign to help "Play It Forward" and keep kiddos safe. He was easy to put together and his bright green color really stands out on the street. The only thing I wish was different was that the red stickers and slow stickers on the sides were reflective so that they better stood out around dusk and evening times, but other than that he's great! Our neighborhood families all have commented on him and how he's helped to give everyone a better sense of security.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hard to assemble!! This thing takes a little work to assemble. I’d suggest taking a hair dryer and warming up the plastic in order to get the base to “snap” into the top. Otherwise, durable and serves a great purpose.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loved it, until it was stolen Until I put out our little fellow, my neighbors and their guests, who KNOW we have children, would speed by our house, even when we were playing outside. This little guy seemed to wake people up in a way that actual children did not.Our little guy survived recent Northeaster winds, but did not survive the poor morals of the person who stole him from us last night. I want to buy another, but I don't want to be a target of theft again--Step2 really needs to add a security tether--please!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific Idea We saw one of these in our neighborhood and observed first hand how visible and clever a warning sign it is to passing motorists. We bought two--one for in front of our yard and one for in front of our neighbor's yard across the street. They are highly effective at signalling drivers to slow down. The fact that you only put them out when the kids are playing outside means that motorists don't become accustomed to seeing (and ignoring) them the way they get used to seeing "Children at Play" street signs. They also help to serve as a reminder to the kids playing to look both ways before they go out into the street themselves.I highly recommend these.I did have trouble coming up with search terms to find these on the Internet. "Little green man warning" and searching under "Images" finally led me to the Step 2 web site.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Visual Reminder to Drivers Excellent visual reminder to drivers to slow down on a residential street. Product should be made larger in the future - I would suggest that the company double the height. Overall it is a very good safety product to keep in the garage or on the porch, ready to place in or by the street everytime your child/children are outside. Drivers should slow down on residential streets regardless of children being near the street or not. This reminds them to do so.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product!-is it a turtle or a kid? *This item is very practical, and addresses an extremely common problem - distracted drivers traveling way too fast through neighborhoods!*An interesting and funny debate has begun within our family however as to whether this 'safety guy' is a kid, a stickman, or maybe even a turtle...anyone have an opinion on this?*Thanks Step2 for another great product, which most certainly has prevented injuries and possibly even fatalities. We appreciate it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Safety Alert - Easy to Use My children place a "Safety Guard" near the street at each end of our property to alert cars of their play. We live on a corner lot so they have been very helpful to alert cars of children at play and to use caution. I have used these Guards for over 5 years and they have held up great and look great. I just recently had to replace the flag because the kids played with it and lost it. I would not want to be without this great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Helps keep our kids safe! Very pleased with this purchase. We use it at the end of the driveway when the kids are outside and crossing the road back and forth to the neighbor’s. Definitely needs sand or other weight in the bottom to keep it from tipping over! The kids named it Charlie - so anytime we play in the front yard, “Charlie” has to play too :) The neighbors in our cul de sac slow down when they see him, so it’s working like it should!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product! This is a fabulous product, we put it out on the end of our street every time our 16-month is outside. It's cute and definitely gets drivers' attention without being obnoxious. We definitely recommend this to anyone living in a residential neighborhood. The only drawback is no one carries it in the store anymore so we had to order it online from the manufacturer and then wait over a week to receive it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked great till.... This was a gift from my sister in law. We live on the corner of a street, and people speed all the time. The HOA board has addressed it many times, but nothing ever stopped it. So we put our little guy out when we were given in, and it worked great! People finally slowed down. It was working great!!! till, someone just drove by and stole it. :/ how frustrating... We'll definately be replacing it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Have purchased one for neighbor, too. Even with sand for weight in the base, I used tent pegs to hold the base firmly - and still, it was stolen in broad daylight on a Sunday morning. I put it out because of elderly person with hearing deficiency who walks between my house and the neighbor's and who retrieves the morning paper and mail from close to the road - there are no sidewalks. ...Effective for slowing most drivers, but not all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply Safety for your Kids Even in the nice family community that we live in cars still race by. we purchased 2 of these signs to put on both ends of the street so our kids along with the neighborhood kids can safety play on the street. We notice a difference right away with the first car that came by. Your child's safety is priceless, but this was the most inexpensive and durable signs I could find. Thank you Step2!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kids alert NWX Bend Or We live in NWX in Bend or, we have a lot or cars the speed, my kids play out in the front yard, since we enacted the signs, traffic has slowed, people have paid more attention. If these signs had not worked, my next option was to begin hurling tennis balls at speeding cars to get them to slow down…we bought two, one is not enough. They work….spend the money get a least two of them..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Cute and Sturdy Safety Reminder The Green Turtle Safety KidAlert is a great way to get motorists attention when your kid is playing. We live on a hill with a blind spot in the driveway, so I placed the KidAlert turtle so that motorists such as the mailman, delivery trucks, and other unexpected visitors would know to slow down. It's easy to assemble and my daughter loves "her turtle". This was a good purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great Can you believe there is actually a person in our neighborhood who said they were confused by it?!With the exception of the mentally slow, everyone else in our neighborhood had told us what a great idea it is. Several have asked where to buy one and many people have told us they send their kids to our street to play because they know the reminder to drivers is right there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We love our "Safety Sam". This guy has made quite a diffrence on our street. We live on a dead end and the people who live on our street tend to just speed down assumeing that no one is out. We use it when ever my kids are on their bikes and people really slow down and pay more attention. We also bring him in when ever we are not out so the neighbors when he is out so are the kids. GREAT PRODUCT.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So good it keeps getting stolen! I live on a very busy street. We have tried contacting the police several times about speeding on this street, but to no avail. We bought one of these, it was stolen within 2 days. So now I will buy another and have to chain it to our tree. I will buy as many as I have to! I immediately noticed cars slowing down when they saw this. It is a great product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from "KidAlert at preschool intersection." Permission given by City Transportation to put KidAlert in our busy crosswalk. We will soon have two KidAlerts on our two busy streets. It has been the only type of caution we were allowed to display.Totally love the child likeness. Our green "Franklin" is well known in the community. Several related stories have been shared regarding his importance. We have had to replace two "KidAlerts" as they have been taken from their site. I have had many calls from people who would like to get one for their personal use. I definitely recommend it to friends and families. Our preschool families are concerned when we do not have our KidAlert out for them.We have had the green "KidAlerts" previously and they had two stands for each of them that we weighed down with sand. Our newest "KidAlert" is yellow and it has one stand. I prefer having two stands in order to keep the figure in place in the street. Time will tell about the color and figure change.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mr. Slow is the BEST! I thought he was a turtle but realized its a boy I call him Mr. Slow. I used the sign for 3 weeks and it has stopped the crazy drivers and made them slow down it's been a miracle. The only sad thing is today someone stole his flag so I need a replacement flag! Some people anyway if you need people to slow down buy Mr. Slow he's great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Effective! I previously purchased a different sign which I hoped would make drivers aware of children at play but the slightest wind would knock it over. This product is great! It is very sturdy, does not tip over, and it certainly alerts drivers to children playing which has resulted in slower driving in our cul de sac. We are very pleased!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go Pedro! Everytime I see our little "Pedro" out in the driveway, I smile. Pedro has helped slow the speeding cars on our street! He really works, it's amazing how many cars slow down now. We bring him out when the kids are out and when were in, we bring Pedro in so people don't get used to him being there. A very wise investment!

I would like to make this heavier as it keeps getting knocked down, I don't think water / sand will do it so I'd like to pour cement in the base as well as the actual body as well. Will this work?

Asked by: Mike
I didn’t have access to sand so I added water.  I emptied it every time we were finish using it. It worked well but wanted something permanent that we didn’t have to refill every time. So once we drained out the water and let it dry, we tried rice. Rice did the job and still does. I hope this works for you.

Hello, we purchased 4 step2kids for our school but we cannot place the bases on them. Is their a certain way to insert them?

Asked by: celestemdz
why would a staff member of step2 tell us to call customer service? Why not provide the info that customer service provides when we waste 10 minutes to call? I just got off the phone with customer service and I was told the following: use a hair dryer to head the notches or use dish soap to help lube the parts. The chuckles from the c.s. rep lead me to believe this is a common issue so why not address it here, in the QA section, or save us all some time and add it to the directions? So extremely frustrating.
