Customer ReviewsRated 4 out of 5 by Mom 2 Three from Would definitely recommend A++++ My 2 year old son loves playing and digging in his sand table. I have not had a problem with rain water getting inside. However, on cold nights there was a bit of condensation on the bottom-side of the lid, but if you're careful when taking the lid off, you can avoid having the condensation run into the sand. Even my older children have enjoyed playing with the sand table. Hours and hours of enjoyment as they discover hidden items in the sand, or build roads with tractors and trucks. [...] All around great product!!!Date published: 2011-03-18Rated 2 out of 5 by Anonymous from Disappointed I loved it for the first year and a half. Once the bungy cord broke it was never the same - leaked and the lid wouldn't stay on even with the replacement. Now the whole lid blew off in a storm and is gone. A replacement lid costs almost as much as a whole new sandbox so it's not worth it! I will buy a new one for a few dollars more, but not this one. Which is a shame because I liked it, but it didn't last. I'm sorry but a child's toy should last more than 1.5 years! Very disappointed in Step 2 for the first time.Date published: 2012-01-24Rated 3 out of 5 by tennismom from Great table but rain gets in... This table is lots of fun albeit a bit messy but what do you expect when you put sand and a 3 and 2 yo together:) Easy to assemble. My major complaint is that the cover does not keep rain out at all. I called the company and they said the top was redesigned due to new government guidelines so it is not air tight. I think there must be a way to design a better top in line with the guidelines and I am going to gerry rig something myself so I don't have to dump the water out ever time it rains. Wish me luck!Date published: 2009-07-02Rated 4 out of 5 by Darkhorse from Great product, little upkeep Great sand table. Great hight, perfect depth. For those that complain about the water:1) Yes, some water gets in. Ours has been through multiple tropical storms, the sand got very wet but it wasn't a disaster/water table situation.2) mold/mildew will grow regardless of whether it's super wet or just humid and closed up. If you've got mold, you don't have it open enough. (This also means you probably have to throw the sand out for the winter unless it's frozen). Solution: Play more! So, if it's too wet, leave it open. Frankly, we had to water ours to keep the dust down many more times than letting it dry out.I couldn't be happier but I took off a star because it may not be best for those who wouldn't use it all the time (e.g. grandparents, etc) unless you lived in an arid climate.Date published: 2008-09-16Rated 3 out of 5 by Childcare provider from Nice sandbox but cover could be better Great little sandbox, I have had four kids playing in it at once. The only complaint I have is water does get in when it rains heavily and after having it only one summer the cover weathered and even more water was able to get in. Contacted step 2 for a replacement cover and was told that this is just what happens with these kind of sand boxes and that I could purchase a replacement cover for half of the price I paid for the sand box to begin with after shipping so we decided to replace this product now.Date published: 2012-04-08Rated 1 out of 5 by Anonymous from Sand table?? More like WET sand table The top of this table is not designed well and I'm not sure why this got past toy testing and has made it onto the sales floor. The lid does NOT keep water out and the sand is wet wet wet. It takes a VERY long time to dry the sand out, so it's almost always wet. Very disapointed, we are pretty frugal and this was a big splurge for our daughters first birthday. I have tried to use silcone to seal the holes near the holes where the water gets in like a previous poster suggested, but that has not worked.Date published: 2008-05-22Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Great product!! I love how this sand box is above ground, and my son can stand by it's side while he is playing. It keeps the sand out of his shoes and pants and therefore, out of the house! He loves to go back and forth between this sand box and his Step2 Water Table. If water gets into it because of the rain, I don't mind because then the sand becomes easier to build castles with. I love that there is a cover to keep out dirt and insects, and I love that it is off the ground. Great purchase!!Date published: 2008-04-07Rated 4 out of 5 by CO mama stuck in CA from good times with the sand table My 2 y/o sold received this as a b-day gist from his grandparents and plays with it nearly every day with the neighborhood kids of all ages. I agree with the other reviewer who said that even h the box says it will hold up to 80 lbs of sand, one 50 lb. bag of play sand is perfect. We have a small space, so this is perfect for us. For those who have larger yards, this might be too small. We haven't noticed water leaking in, the lid is tight; maybe that issue has been resolved?Date published: 2011-05-13Rated 4 out of 5 by Illinois mama from Naturally Playful Sand Table We love everything about this table, except the height. It is a little short, but besides that its great. It has 40 pounds of sand which seems to be plenty & we're able to store it with toys in side. I was a little concerned about the lid being to flimsy, but its been through some pretty serious storms & seems to keep everything dry. We've also had up to 4 kids (ages, 1,2,2 & 3.5) playing in it & the only problem was who had what toy... Wonderful buy!Date published: 2007-06-12Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Great Fun! My grandson, 20 months, loves his playtable. When the 3 and 4 year old grandchildren come over, there's plenty of room for all 3 of them. The legs are short but I don't think that will be a problem. They already sit on riding toys or little chairs sometimes to play at the table. Some have said the lid is too flimsy and doesn't keep the rain out. The lid is lightweight, but it's still stong and with 50 pounds of sand, the lid is tight and keeps the rain out.Date published: 2007-07-29Rated 5 out of 5 by Chole from Awesome This sand table is great. We actually use it as a tactile table. we have had water in it. Which is a huge hit. even with our older neighbor kids. Its a great way to cool kids down without having to drag out the pool. We have also put other things in the table like corn meal or rice to give a different sensation. It closes up tight so its safe to leave out side and it duarble enough for several kids to lean on it at once. Loved it. Great purchase.Date published: 2008-08-06Rated 1 out of 5 by Nickelnje from Not a good table! I am so disappointed in this table! We bought it for my son who loves to play in the sand! We put it on our deck where it does not get a lot of rain but after the first rain the sand was SOAKED and the table was holding water! It was very sad and frustrating! We should have gone with a different company! I would not recommend this table if you are planning to use it outside (like most people do) or if you do you should bring it in any time it rains!Date published: 2011-05-01Rated 5 out of 5 by shana from Great Product Great sand table. I especially like the feature of the car track on the cover--with 2 boys it is a must. 2 nights after I put it together we had a bad rainstorm and amazingly the sand stayed dry. Very durable. Both my 7 month old and my 6 year old love it. It is a little short for my 6 year old to play with without getting on his knees but I was aware that the product was made for younger children so I was not disappointedDate published: 2007-08-07Rated 5 out of 5 by Mama June Bug from Always pleased with Step2! I ordered this table because I have been very pleased with all the Step2 items we have; Naturally Playful Clubhouse and Picnic Table, Crab Sandbox. All are durable, easy to keep clean and attractive in our yard. My 3 1/2 yr. old son has spent hours playing with these. I must admit, for us, the Sand Table acts as a large mixing bowl for our concoctions! We have used it for slime, mud, bubbles, sand and water balloons.Date published: 2010-02-28Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from lots of fun I got this table as a sensory table to use mostly indoors. Great for rainy day play. We use oatmeal, water, shaving cream, etc. My 2 1/2 year old son loves it. I wish they made one for preschoolers too. (He'll be too tall for it sooner than I would like.) Additionally, I like that it was made here in the USA. I can trust that it's safe. That may sound corny and I don't worry about it much; but it is still nice.Date published: 2008-09-22Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Perfect sand table! I bought this table for my 4 children ages 1,3,6, and 8. They all love it the sand stays dry in the rain. I will be purchasing a second one for our summer home we like it so much. Hardly a day goes by that someone isn't playing in it. I takes 1 bag of sand to fill which is easy too. I wish it was a little bit deeper so they could bury stuff easier. They like to create trasure hunts with stones, seashells, etc.Date published: 2008-07-21Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from I love it My kids love it , both can play together it's plenty room for play . I'm red the other review about the water go in the table , so when I bought it we wait a day because supposed to rain and did rain for three day we put the table outside but no sand inside I want to test it and after 3 days of rain I opened it and it was dry so we put in the moon sand in and my kids had a blast playing. It work the money.Date published: 2012-05-09Rated 5 out of 5 by Mom 2 3 from Great product We havent actually used this for sand yet and temporarily (I think) found another great use for it. I didn't get it outside before my 3 boys 3,5 & 9 turned it into a lego table. It holds a pile of legos and they stand around it and build and it is easier than ever to get them to clean them up when they are done playing. I may have to buy a second table for outside sand play!Date published: 2009-04-08Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Grandson Loves It I bought the sand and water table for 2 of my grandchildren and it's geat. For this grandchild I bought this wonderful sand table. It holds a lot of sand, it's just the right height to stand at or he pulls a toy up to sit on so he can sit down and play. He's only 2 so maybe this winter we'll bring it inside and fill it with rice or something because it's so easy to clean.Date published: 2007-08-08Rated 5 out of 5 by sweetie from My kids are loving them! I bought one sandbox for my 4 & 5 years old Sunday School class to use indoors and the kids liked it so much that I bought a second one. I love the way they can stand around it to play or can pull up a chair beside it. I do have to sweep because the kids get carried away and sand falls on the floor. The only other thing, they love it so much they get a little too loud.Date published: 2011-06-13Rated 4 out of 5 by Buildin' Sand Castles from Naturally Playful Sand Table - So Nice I bought this table specifically b/c it was solely a sand table. Too many other parents complained of the mess of a sand AND water table. A good idea to many but too much upkeep apparently. I like the size of this table. Can get 1-3 around it nicely, without running into too many fights over sand territory. I also like the easy on & off lid. Haven't seen any rain water seeping in yet. The colors are very pleasant. A nice change from the typical vibrant colors of outdoor kids toys/furniture. The only cons... I do wish there was an umbrella feature. The sun gets pretty hot out there. Also, I have a taller 3 year old. I wish this table either stood a bit taller or provided a telescoping option or height boosters of some sort for the legs. I'm afraid this table might get outgrown sooner than I hoped just because of the taller height of my child. Seems a bit unfair. But, overall very pleased with my purchase.Date published: 2007-05-29Rated 4 out of 5 by home daycare lady from much better than on the ground I would lengthen the legs because the children have to kneel on the ground to be able to play in the table comfortablely. I would also make the play area larger so more than 2 children could use the table at a time and I would also make the cover of a harder plastic so it would fit tighter. I use bungee cords and large trucks on top to help keep out the rain.Date published: 2009-01-22Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from So much fun! We love this sand table. It was easy to put together for instant play time. I love the car race track on the lid so they can race hot wheels after sand play. I was pleasantly surprised that sand tools also came with the table. The boys are loving this table. This is such a good alternative to a sand box. I highly recommend this product.#sweepstakesDate published: 2017-05-05Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Easy to assemble, inexpensive sandbox Very easy to assemble; pefect level for toddlers so they don't have to sit on the edge or in the sand! Add a few chairs if you want, but they are just as happy to walk around the table! Great for outside (sand) or inside (Play-Dough). So the sand may get a little wet at times, but the majority of the time the kids add water any ways so they can build!Date published: 2008-07-26Rated 5 out of 5 by rphchristina from Very Happy! We are very happy with this sand table. I personally like the colors and the size of it. Could be a little deeper, but the play area is a good size. I also like the fact that it is just a sand table and not a combo table with water too. My 2 year old son loves it and wants to play outside with it every chance he gets. Super easy to assemble too!Date published: 2009-07-30Rated 4 out of 5 by Figment from Sandbox We have the sandbox in the backyard, so it can be dragged out into the yard, due to sand spilling out the sandbox when played. It doesn't take much sand to fill up the sandbox. Only needed one small bag. Enough room to leave some sand tools and a small pail inside the box with lid. Haven't had a problem with the lid - has stayed on pretty good.Date published: 2010-06-07Rated 1 out of 5 by Anonymous from Avoid this waterlogged waste of money We bought this table for my 2-year-old daughter. I like the fact she can't climb into it since we wanted to put it on our deck and didn't want her tracking a lot of sand inside. Although the deck doesn't have any covering, I thought the table would be fine because it had a cover of its own. We have mostly Step 2 products and have come to trust both their quality and design. Big mistake. After the first rain, we opened the lid a few days later to find a cesspool of standing water and moldy sand. My husband drilled holes in the bottom to help it drain, but that doesn't prevent water from getting into the box or make it dry faster. Since it's currently our rainy season, it's useless. It was a huge splurge for us, one we had to save months for, and after this immense design flaw on Step 2's part, I'll think twice about purchasing their toys again.Bottom line: Don't buy this unless you can shelter it from rain. Otherwise, you'll come to regret it as I have.Date published: 2015-04-27Rated 3 out of 5 by Anonymous from Great Product but a Too Short It's great that the sand area is deep (the top portion). The cover stays on good, even in our windy location. However, the table is very short overall. My kids are 2 1/2 and just turned 3 years and they have to bend when playing with it. I'll probably only get this summer out of it, which is a shame.Date published: 2013-04-19Rated 5 out of 5 by JPotter from Nice little play box This is very nice for the price. My 3 year old uses it in our sun room for moon sand, since we have a true large sand box in our yard. She can pull up a chair to play. The height of the sand table is more appropraite for younger kids - 4 or under would be my suggestion unless you sit by the table.Date published: 2010-08-30Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Great fun for clean kids! We got this table for our grandson who absolutely hates to get dirty. When put in his cousin's sandbox the first time, he held his legs up in the air. He loves this table. He can play in the dirt -- without getting dirty, and there's room for his friends to play with him too! He loves it!Date published: 2009-07-04
