How to Display Thanks with a Gratitude Tree

Step2 Blog Thankful Tree

Fall is definitely in full swing. The leaves are changing color and there is a crisp in the air. It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is less than 3 weeks away! Thanksgiving is a great time to take a moment from our busy lives and reflect on the people and things that are most important to us. It’s also important to instill gratitude in our children. As parents we can do that by finding the silver lining in situations, teaching our kids politeness and respect for others and by being a grateful parent.

A great way to display what you are grateful for is with this homemade and family inclusive centerpiece inspired by Simply Vintagegirl.

What you will need:

  • Tree Branch
  • Vase
  • Twine
  • Small wooden ornaments (you could also purchase ornaments that are pre-painted)
  • Black paint
  • White paint pen
  • Foam Brush
  • Tape
  • Decorative stones

Step2 Blog Gratitude Tree Supplies

1. Pick out a tree branch from your yard and trim it to the appropriate height for your vase.
2. Put the branch into your vase and fill the decorative stones around it.
3. Create squares or rectangles on the wooden ornaments with tape.
4. Paint over your wooden ornaments with the black paint using your foam brush.

Step2 Blog Thankful Tree Ornament

5. While the paint is drying, have your family participate by compiling a list of things they are most thankful for this year.
6. When the paint is dry, remove the tape and use your paint pen to write the items on your list onto the ornaments.

7. Cut your twine into pieces that will allow you to tie a bow around each branch.
8. When the writing on your ornaments is dry, attach each ornament with twine to your tree.
9. Find a nice place to display your tree!

These are only a few of the many things we are thankful for this year.
