We bought this for our 13 month old son for Christmas...we set it up early, and it has been such a wonderful help!! He loves it and will play with this for so long! We can cook dinner, clean, fold laundry, finish a meal, read the newspaper, etc. without a toddler climbing all over us and demanding more attention. He loves the juke box and will dance along to the songs. It is definitely durable, as we keep finding our son standing on top of the open oven door, and it hasn't broken off yet! He eats his snacks at the table now, so cute! My only wish is that it would have come with more play food.

This is a cute set, but my version was missing the burner, the ringer bell, the jukebox and the faucet- all of the things that make noise and really accents the whole "diner" feel. We got it a few days before Christmas and as we were putting together before Christmas morning, it was extremely disappointing that it would be missing stuff, and couldn't get it before Christmas. The Step 2 folks were nice when I called. But overall, it took some of the thrill away as a parent.

Comments about Step2 50's Diner:

one of the chairs is hard to snap into place. Put the kitchen on its side, chairs facing up and twist and shove the left chair. It will click in but not easily. Just keep at it. Once it's in it will stay put.

Comments about Step2 50's Diner:

Pieces were missing from the set and the pieces that came in the set were poor quality compared to the items on the box and in the videos. I called customer service and they told me that the pieces have not been included for years, yet they are listed on the website, on the box, and they are on the video. She agreed to send me a 20% promo code to purchase another item online if I wanted. I will not purchase from Step 2 again.

I care for my 2 young granddaughters when my daughter is working. The diner provides a complete kitchen play area as well as a perfect snack/lunch seating area for them. There is room to store their play dishes, food etc in the kitchen area. They have used it for over 2 years and are as delighted to use it on a daily basis as when it was first purchased .

I think step 2 products are very sturdy and last a very long time I have products that I bought for my children and now my grandkids are playing with those same products.

I purchased this when my kids were 1 years old and it proved to be extremely useful in more ways than I had anticipated. It doubled as a toy and station where I fed them. It was so great that I just purchased it for my good friend whose twins are turning 1 this weekend. It's a surprise gift and I know she'll appreciate it and the kids will love it.

I did A LOT of homework on this! I like the fact that my 2 year old granddaughter and her best-friend, her 6 year old aunt, can play together. It comes with a nice assortment of extras, too. Plus, it relies on their imagination, more hands on than just pushing buttons. Update will come later!
      Dawn F on Dec 12, 2014

This sounded like the perfect gift for our 2 year old twins. I also wanted something low tech that would improve their imaginative skills, rather than making them button pushers. Brings back the '50's!

This is the second diner I am purchasing. The first one is enjoyed by 2 granddaughters in CT. It has become a favorite toy, used daily by a 2 and 4 year old. This is heading to a one year old, and I am sure it will become a favorite too.

Hi, I am wanting to purchase this for my daughter however she is 5 years old. I was told that she might be too big for this but I really want it! Please let me know what you think! Do you think she will still be able to play with it or is it too small? Thanks!
      Ashleigh V on Dec 1, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The chairs are pretty snug, but my 3 year old loves this kitchen!! The kitchen is about knee height for an adult. My daughter does more "cooking" than "dining". The food and all that comes with it is just adorable!!! Overall, it's a great kitchen & it's very unique
I am struggling with the assembly. The left chair will not snap in. I was successful with the right chair but it just seems like the plastic is not going to connect. Any suggestions?
      Help!
      A shopper on Mar 4, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it was a beast to get in…the rest went together easily.
You have to twist and shove like the directions say. We (my daughter and myself) had to really shove it in. We turned it on its side so the chair faced up then twisted and I shoved and I had to put all my weight behind it. I’m a woman so maybe a guy who’s stronger can make this easier. We did this at Christmas so that’s three months ago and once we got it in place is stayed put. My two grandsons love this. The bell and jukebox are a huge hit. The boiling and frying are terrific. Making ice cream cones is the best. Once you get it together you’ll love it. Don’t give up…just keep shoving on it.
is the coffee pot made out of food safe plastic? My children like to fill it with water and pour the water into their own glasses to drink.
      Kathleen W on Feb 12, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I do not know about the plastic. I would not fill the coffee pot with water since the opening is small and would be difficult to clean thoroughly. However, my children love the diner. We play with it all the time and they even eat at the diner on special occasions. It's a big hit with other kids (and adults) too!
I recently got a replacement burner - how do I take out the orignal burner to put in the new replacement burner?

What type of plastic are the diner and accesorries made of (polypropylene, PVC, etc)? Also, is the plastic BPA free?

What are the box dimensions, will it fit in a small car or will it be better to have it delivered thru website?
      A shopper on Nov 24, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The packaging dimensions for the 50's Diner is 34.5" high x 24" wide x 20.25" deep and weighs 34 lbs. This item will not fit in a small sedan vehicle.
How long has the diner been around? I have never seen it before! I love the idea vs aregular play kitchen!!
      A shopper on Jun 17, 2014
BEST ANSWER: This diner was introduced in 2008.
Where di the batteries go? I'm a grandma babysitting and trying to replace the batteries in the step 2 diner, and I have no idea where to look.
      Thanks
Peggy Krokker on Sep 7, 2013
