MY 5 YR OLD LOVES THIS AND SO DO I! I saw this product on a retailers catalog and was diappointed when I found out it was sold out. It dawned on me to Google it and I found the Step 2 website. To my surprise they were having a really good deal and paid less then any other sites. My 5 yr old CANNOT stay away from the table. Very easy to assemble. Wish it had a lil more storage under the board but other than that, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!! !

We purchased this for our gdaughter (2) because she loves to do art. By purchasing online we didn't get to see it in person first and were disappointed in some of the features and the size of it. The area for your paper to lay is slick and the paper tends to slide off and there are no clips to hold it in place. Our 2 y.o. is still too short to reach the tray on top but for someone a little older it would work okay.

This was my 3-year-old granddaughter's Christmas gift, because she needs activities to keep her occupied and stimulate the mind. She loves this and so do I. It is very sturdy and will last for quite some time, probably until I have to give it to Goodwill because she has outgrown it. This is definitely worth the purchase. It is in our kitchen so she can play/create while Grandma is doing her thing.

ann404 asked: Hi can anyone tell me how comfortable this art table would be for an almost 5 yr old? How long may she be able to use it, before out growing it? Thanks Sep 1, 2013

Robert G: I purchased in desk in Nov 2011 for my granddaughter and she uses every day. She will be five this month and she is 42" tall. I would say she can use this desk for another 2 or 3 years at least. I would say the max height for a child before they feel uncomfortable sitting in the chair and using the desk would be about 50" tall. Sep 3, 2013
Reply to Robert Good answer? Yes (2) No (0)
ann404: Thank you so much for your reply. Could you tell me how much room there is between the bottom of the desk and the top of her legs when she sits on the chair? Are her knees bent? Also does there seem to be enough room on the desk for her art projects? Does the light still work? Again thanks for your time, Ann Sep 3, 2013
Sue G: I bought this for my daughter when she was 3 years old. She will be 5 in December and in my opinion she is already too big for it. It's a nice desk, but the chair is pretty small. If your daughter is not too tall it might fit her, but it won't last her very long. Sep 3, 2013
Reply to Sue Good answer? Yes (1) No (0)
ann404: Hi Sue, and thanks for the reply. Can I ask how tall is your daughter? I'd hate to get this and find she is just too big for it. Also is there enough space on this desk for doing art projects. My little one is into cutting and gluing everything. Oh and does the light work? Thanks for your time, Ann Sep 3, 2013
Sue G: My daughter is 42" tall. The desk is wonderful for arts and crafts. She loves it, but her legs almost touch the top of the desk when sitting at the chair. She is tall for a 4 year old. The light works, but is dim. It doesn't light up the whole desk if that's what you're hoping for. It does have great holders for markers, scissors, a holder where I put her drink or a glass with water for water-paints. I do really like the desk, but I suggest you look at Costco first. I was very dissapointed when I purchased it for 100.00 at the time from Step 2, and 2 weeks later it was at Costco for 50.00. I was there 2 weeks ago and they had it in stock. You don't mind spending 50.00 if it only lasts a year or so.
Hope this helps! Sep 3, 2013
ann404: Thank you very much for all the great info. I'll try Costco first, as you're right $50 wouldn't be so bad for it only lasted a year. Ann Sep 3, 2013
Ms. M: purchased this for my very tall 4 year old greatnephew who is now 6 and is still using his desk. He has a younger sister who wiill inherit it when he outgrows it but my niece has often times said that it was the best gift ever!

She has had other mothers visit who inquired about the desk because it is so attractive, functional and attractive. Being a boy, my nephew has been rough and tough with the chair and it has not broken! That can't be said of other items purchased for him.

I'd say that alot depends on your daughter's height and physique. My nephew and niece are both tall but very slender so they have no problem with getting their thighs under the desk.

You can always resell it on ebay or a yard sale as it will hold up very well. The quality, according to my niece is excellent so the re-sale value will be good.

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Kathleen P: Becca -I'm sorry to take so long responding. I believe the site says 75lbs is max weight - which is plenty when you take height into consideration. I bought this desk for my daughter when she was 3, almost four. She still uses it and is now 5, but the chair is too short - but it would still hold her weight easily. She really enjoys it and I would def recommend it. Nov 17, 2013

Cynthia L: probably. The plastic was not as smooth surfaced as I had hoped when I bought this product last yr. I didn't mind as it did not affect use, but since realize it greatly affects the ability to clean it well. One of the legs weakened on it too so we now have to be careful with it so as not to move the leg. Actually this seems to be a problem with Step two stuff now, yrs ago the plastic was so durable, old items are still around but new items wear easily around the joins and screws, we had the same thing happen at a weel join on a car from step two aswell. Robert G: I purchased this desk for my granddaughter two years ago, she just turned 5 and and is 42" tall. The fits her perfect, I figure based on how tall she is now this desk will last another two or three years. Then she will be to tall. I niece who is 7 and is about 48" tall uses this desk no problem. Barbara J: I bought this for my now five year old granddaughter over a year ago and she loves it. She has all kinds of art supplies and now she has this set up in a well lit closet in her room. She takes me up so we can work on projects together when I visit them.It is so nice to have a place where things are so well organized and she can just shut the door when her younger sister is in the room or visitors that are not appreciators of art! No loss of items no mess. It is well worth it. Oct 11, 2013

Wendy B: Absolutely! I bought for my 4 yr old, she's 6 now and still uses it to do her 1st grade homework. She also enjoys spending time drawing at it. Well worth every dime :)
Very sturdy, cleans nicely and functional. I highly recommend it.

George E asked: What's really drawing me to this art desk are all the compartments for keeping the supplies organized. Parents, what has been your experience with this? Do the compartments help to keep order, or is that just a pain and you wish it just had one big bin to dump everything? Thanks for the thoughts! Mar 26, 2013

Lucy H: My experience as a parent with the Deluxe Art Master Desk has been excellent. I purchased this desk for my son when he was almost four years old. He is almost six years old and he still uses his desk almost every day. He loves his desk. The compartments do keep everything in order. I put his coloring books on one side and the other side is his educational books (math, writing tablets etc). He puts his washable markers on the top, pencils on one side, pens on the other, crayons to the side. Also, under the top is a compartment and he uses that for extra pencils, erasers or projects he still has to complete. The only thing my son would had like was more writing space. It is on the smaller side, but it works. He loves how much space is underneath the table to the top of his legs. I had everything in one bin and it usually got my son frustrated that he could not find what he wanted and he would dump everything on the floor that is why I purchased this desk. Hope this helps. Mary Kay D: I bought this desk for my daughter for her second birthday, and I am so glad I did. I liked the compartments as well, and I liked that she would be able to use it as she grew older (she is now almost 4). She sits at it almost everyday...Regarding your question, yes the compartments are useful. We use the bottom side compartments for coloring books and paper, top marker holders for dry erase markers, crayons go in the compartments on the desktop, etc...basically everything has a space and since she's been using it since she was a toddler she puts things back where they belongs, most of the time ;-). I highly recommend this art desk. Mar 26, 2013

George E: Your daughter puts things back where they belong?!? Could we arrange a play date so she can teach my girls how to do that? :-) Many thanks! G Mar 26, 2013
Marsha P: The compartments help with organization. It certainly isn't my definition of organized, but considering my house is now a playhouse, this desk is one I would recommend. The items are easy to access from the compartments and they are deep enough to fit a lot in. My son loves this
      desk. Very functional.

Janet F: My granddaughter is 4 now and tall also. She loves it, uses it everyday. If your daughter likes crafts, coloring, writing, she will live it and you will get at least three years out of it. Jun 2, 2014

Virginia B: I would say no. My son is tiny for a 7 year-old (weighs 40 pounds, 3 feet 8 inches tall), and the seating under the desk is somewhat tight. Sorry! Jun 3, 2014

A shopper asked: How wide is the total drawing space on this desk? Not just the dry erase section but total space as if you were going to draw on a large pc of paper and utilize all space? Dec 1, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Timothy R: Width of the table is approximately 34" and the depth from the uprights for the pen holder tray to the front edge of the table is 13". So you can fit a pad of paper that is 34" x 13". Or, you can fit a smaller pad inside the uprights. That depth is 17" to the front edge of the table and the width inside the uprights is 24".
