I am a daddy and just bought this (from Step2 directly)for my 2 year old little girl for her birthday June 3rd and I really don't know where all the negative comments are coming from, except to think that there are ALWAYS those few who complain about everything. It took about 2 hours to fully put together and that was mostly doing the stickers and odd-and-ends. The doors came attached already and you just have to assemble the main parts, door knobs and stickers. When she unwrapped it (assembled), her face lit up! She started playing with everything right away. I DO suggest that you get a large food accessories package to go with this as the food things they include are not really quality items and do not include the normal items for sandwiches, the refridge, ect. The oven door DOES NOT fall like others have said. I agree with some others that injection molded products do not look as good or as detailed as roto products (they should not have switched manufacturing processes), but it is what it is. In all, I think this is a great little kitchen for little ones who love to pretend cook and I am looking forward to a lot of fun times with my daughter as she cooks for daddy! I added a picture to show size and look in accordance to my little one.

I purchased a lifestyle kitchen in 2004 and was extremely satisfied with the purchase. However, I just purchased the lifestyle dream kitchen and was surprised to see that the quality of the product was not equal to the one I purchased in 2004. Although it looks similar, the doors (oven, microwave and refrigerator) are nothing like the older model. When I inquired with Step2, I was told that they changed the way they manufacture the product from a roto molded appliance doors to injection molded doors.

At the time that I purchased the product from the Step2 website they were displaying the product with the higher quality roto molded doors and this is not what I received. Of course, a new photo was posted to the website as soon as I brought this to Step2's attention and I was told I could ship if it back (at my expense) for a refund. But, after taking the time to put it together that seemed like more trouble than it was worth.

Comments about Step2 LifeStyle™ Dream Kitchen:

I purchased this kitchen as a Christmas gift, so it hasn't been played with yet, however, it came as described and I think it will be a hit! I am pleased with the product overall and can't wait for my little one to enjoy it.

The product seems very well made. I purchased this kitchen specifically for the electronic features, which all worked when tested. Have batteries on hand, it takes (6) AA and (5) AAA.

Installation instructions were reasonably easy to follow, but because of they way they are printed, I did have to "hunt" around to complete the steps in order, and a couple of the photos lacked resolution to be able to tell which part was being referenced. Part inspection, reading instructions, and installation took about an hour and a half. The screws are self drilling but took some "muscle" to get them in with a hand held screw driver, so I would recommend using an electric screw driver. It also required two size drivers (a smaller size for the battery operated parts).

I thought the included play food was slim, so I purchased additional play food set from another source.

I saw this at the store and got the chance to feel it in person. It is super well made and I imagined my daughter having fun playing with it. Didn't buy it as it won't fit my budget for my daughter's birthday but would definitely buy it in the future. Could not help but leave a review though. It looks really fun!

Comments about Step2 LifeStyle™ Dream Kitchen:

This is a great kitchen and multi-use toy for my toddler children. Whether they (ages 2 and 3.5) are playing together, individually or with friends, the opportunities for their creative minds are endless. The accessories are great and really get the kids going on acting out their cooking skills. It even provides great lessons in organization. Partner it up with other cooking toys and even some kid-safe tools from Mommy's kitchen and you'll have a very happy kid. Although I have two girls, I have had little boys over who also enjoy it just as much! My only complaint is that the oven door does not stay open and the "latch" they subsequently provided didn't really remedy the problem. Other than that, it is a great toy which I can tell my children will love for years to come!

julia f: I purchased this kitchen Oct of 2011 for my grandchild age 2 at the time. She will soon be four and she and her twin sisters now age 2 use it daily. How wonderful to be sitting at the kitchen table and one of them will bring us a cup of tea (pretend of course)that they prepared in the little microwave. A wonderful and creative item that will stimulate their imagination. Yes, all doors do open. This kitchen has held up to a lot of use from three children and is in perfect condition. Oct 15, 2013

Karen asked: Is there a trick to getting the burner to work when putting a pot/pan on them? They work if I run my finger over the buttons, but when my son tries to cook on it, it doesn't make a sound. Thoughts? Jul 13, 2013

Bill T: Mine was not working also. Here is what I found. First I needed to replace the batteries mine were dead ( how many times have I made this error...someday I'll learn not to mix good batteries with old). Second I was not using the corredt Step2 skillet and sauce pan. The Step2 pans have ridges on the bottom that will set on the activation buttons. This starts the lights and sound of the burner. I guess the ridges hit hit the buttons and this starts the process. Hope this helps. Jul 20, 2013

Karen: Ah, that makes much more sense now! I'm not sure if the pans are "original" because this was given to us as a hand-me-down. I had replaced all the batteries anyhow, and made sure that everything was inline properly, etc. For the time being, my son is just happy pushing the buttons, but in the future, perhaps I'll order the pan so he doesn't teach himself to "burn" his hands on the stove... di l asked: I will be placing this in a play area under the stairs and would like to know certain height and width dimensions so I know it will fit. The website says it's 44.75 H and 35.50 W. I assume that the 44.75 inches refers to the tallest center part above the sink area. How many inches across (width) is that center part? Is it exactly in the middle of the kitchen? What is the height of the two sides (i.e. above the microwave part and fridge part)? Thanks very much! Apr 9, 2014

Michelle H: The 44.75 does refer to the tallest part above the sink area. If you are talking about the part that stick up above the dish area it is around 4" wide, it is exactly in the middle. Each side is 40" tall. Your child/children will enjoy very much. Ours still looks like new. Apr 12, 2014

Norm H: The oven buttons all sound a little different than the microwave buttons. The numbers on both make a short beep sound, the microwave is just a little higher pitched. But then the microwave and oven both have an additional 4 buttons and all 8 have unique sounds associated with cooking sounds, steam, a ding like it's finished, etc.

I also find the sound level just right, not too loud or too quiet.
