I am a daddy and just bought this (from Step2 directly)for my 2 year old little girl for her birthday June 3rd and I really don't know where all the negative comments are coming from, except to think that there are ALWAYS those few who complain about everything. It took about 2 hours to fully put together and that was mostly doing the stickers and odd-and-ends. The doors came attached already and you just have to assemble the main parts, door knobs and stickers. When she unwrapped it (assembled), her face lit up! She started playing with everything right away. I DO suggest that you get a large food accessories package to go with this as the food things they include are not really quality items and do not include the normal items for sandwiches, the refridge, ect. The oven door DOES NOT fall like others have said. I agree with some others that injection molded products do not look as good or as detailed as roto products (they should not have switched manufacturing processes), but it is what it is. In all, I think this is a great little kitchen for little ones who love to pretend cook and I am looking forward to a lot of fun times with my daughter as she cooks for daddy! I added a picture to show size and look in accordance to my little one.

I purchased a lifestyle kitchen in 2004 and was extremely satisfied with the purchase. However, I just purchased the lifestyle dream kitchen and was surprised to see that the quality of the product was not equal to the one I purchased in 2004. Although it looks similar, the doors (oven, microwave and refrigerator) are nothing like the older model. When I inquired with Step2, I was told that they changed the way they manufacture the product from a roto molded appliance doors to injection molded doors.

At the time that I purchased the product from the Step2 website they were displaying the product with the higher quality roto molded doors and this is not what I received. Of course, a new photo was posted to the website as soon as I brought this to Step2's attention and I was told I could ship if it back (at my expense) for a refund. But, after taking the time to put it together that seemed like more trouble than it was worth.

Comments about Step2 LifeStyle™ Dream Kitchen:

I purchased this kitchen as a Christmas gift, so it hasn't been played with yet, however, it came as described and I think it will be a hit! I am pleased with the product overall and can't wait for my little one to enjoy it.

The product seems very well made. I purchased this kitchen specifically for the electronic features, which all worked when tested. Have batteries on hand, it takes (6) AA and (5) AAA.

Installation instructions were reasonably easy to follow, but because of they way they are printed, I did have to "hunt" around to complete the steps in order, and a couple of the photos lacked resolution to be able to tell which part was being referenced. Part inspection, reading instructions, and installation took about an hour and a half. The screws are self drilling but took some "muscle" to get them in with a hand held screw driver, so I would recommend using an electric screw driver. It also required two size drivers (a smaller size for the battery operated parts).

I thought the included play food was slim, so I purchased additional play food set from another source.

I saw this at the store and got the chance to feel it in person. It is super well made and I imagined my daughter having fun playing with it. Didn't buy it as it won't fit my budget for my daughter's birthday but would definitely buy it in the future. Could not help but leave a review though. It looks really fun!

Did a charger come with this kitchen to charge the kitchen light? Does the light have batteries?
          A shopper on Nov 11, 2013
BEST ANSWER: A charger does not come with the light. It does require batteries, but I don't believe it came with them. We've had the kitchen since 2011 and we still haven't changed the batteries in it. My kids (and I) love this kitchen.
Could Step 2 staff or someone recommend a fix for the oven door and upper cabinet doors not staying closed? The oven door pops open after I close it and the cabinet doors will not close fully.

Is there a trick to getting the burner to work when putting a pot/pan on them? They work if I run my finger over the buttons, but when my son tries to cook on it, it doesn't make a sound. Thoughts?
          Karen on Jul 13, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Mine was not working also. Here is what I found. First I needed to replace the batteries mine were dead ( how many times have I made this error...someday I'll learn not to mix good batteries with old). Second I was not using the corredt Step2 skillet and sauce pan. The Step2 pans have ridges on the bottom that will set on the activation buttons. This starts the lights and sound of the burner. I guess the ridges hit hit the buttons and this starts the process. Hope this helps.
The overhead light no longer works, so I am going to try changing the batteries first. Getting at the screws with a screwdriver is awkward and I havnt been able to actually loosen the screws to ake off the light cover. Am I doing something wrong?

I need to change the batteries in the overhead light hopefully in order to make it work again. It seems awkward to get to the screws with a screwdriver, and although it seems that the screwdriver is engaged, I am not able to loosen the screws. Am I doing something wrong??

I just saw a review with a con listed that the doors do not open or close.. is this true?
          kdayle on Oct 14, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I purchased this kitchen Oct of 2011 for my grandchild age 2 at the time. She will soon be four and she and her twin sisters now age 2 use it daily. How wonderful to be sitting at the kitchen table and one of them will bring us a cup of tea (pretend of course)that they prepared in the little microwave. A wonderful and creative item that will stimulate their imagination. Yes, all doors do open. This kitchen has held up to a lot of use from three children and is in perfect condition.
          Can I use this outdoors?
          Heather C on Jun 22, 2013
BEST ANSWER: There are 2 electronic pieces(phone and oven timer) that would not be waterproof. If you eliminate those then it should work fine. Rain would certainly fill up certain areas so it would be best to keep it on a covered porch.
Does this kitchen come with a coffee pot?

The only thing missing really is a coffee pot. Which a child won't miss. Perfect amount of storage space plus room to add more if needed.

Why do you say Made in America but the identical kitchen and brand on Amazon says made in China? Confused. Wanting something made in America for my Granddaughter but wondering about the origins of this toy.
          A shopper on Jun 23, 2014
BEST ANSWER: This play kitchen is made in the USA of US and imported parts. The phone, play food, silver doors and faucet are made in China.
The product description says this is 44.75 inches high - I am assuming that is at its highest point at the top where the window is.
How high is it above the left and/or right cabinets? (I am trying to fit it into a certain space in my home and need to understand those directions.)

So from floor to the top of the left cabinet, how high is that?
          Please advise.

          Thank you for your help!

BEST ANSWER: I am so sorry, I purchased and sent this to my granddaughters who are 700 miles away, so I am not close that I can measure for you. I can tell you, they love the kitchen and play with it almost everyday.

          Regards,

          Priscilla
I will be placing this in a play area under the stairs and would like to know certain height and width dimensions so I know it will fit. The website says it's 44.75 H and 35.50 W. I assume that the 44.75 inches refers to the tallest center part above the sink area. How many inches across (width) is that center part? Is it exactly in the middle of the kitchen? What is the height of the two sides (i.e. above the microwave part and fridge part)? Thanks very much!
          di l on Apr 9, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The 44.75 does refer to the tallest part above the sink area. If you are talking about the part that stick up above the dish area it is around 4" wide, it is exactly in the middle. Each side is 40" tall. Your child/children will enjoy very much. Ours still looks like new.

I purchased the lifestyle dream kitchen for my daughter. Put it together without an issue but the the oven door will not close and stay closed. What can be done about that? OR should I take it apartment and return the whole thing. Its incredibly aggravating and a trip hazard for all.

What sound(s) does the oven keypad make? Is it the same or different than the microwave keypad?
          Julie L on Dec 4, 2013
BEST ANSWER: The oven buttons all sound a little different than the microwave buttons. The numbers on both make a short beep sound, the microwave is just a little higher pitched. But then the microwave and oven both have an additional 4 buttons and all 8 have unique sounds associated with cooking sounds, steam, a ding like it's finished, etc.

I also find the sound level just right, not too loud or too quiet.
