Only annoyance was door sticking. This was easily corrected by minor filing.

Installation was simple and went very well - by-the-book-

It's storage capacity was perfect over a 8 day period of mail accumulation while on vacation.

Since it has a "broad" silhouette; I'm very interested in how it will hold up to snow plowing this winter.

After 3 weeks very satisfied. The mailbox has met all my expectations, and the cost was reasonable.

(this advertised at numerous sites. The best cost + shipping value was by ordering direct from Step 2.

[...] Fit of top mail doors (front & rear) is critically dependent upon proper positioning of already-installed latch magnets, which were poorly positioned on the delivered unit. Steel latch tabs on the top two doors meerly press into slots in the doors with only barbs to secure them. One was hanging out on one tiny barb all but completely free from the door. This needs better fastening design. The sidewalk-side upper door is situated directly above a metal structural cross piece. Examination of the path for rain water entering from around the sidewalk-side top mail door indicates likely flow directly into the lower mail accumulation space to produce soggy mail. This nice idea for a mailbox needs design refinement. This plus quality production assembly at the factory [...] and installation by the customer could result in a winner product, which the current product is clearly not. This is our second. We have one at another home. For the past ten years it has and continues to serve us well. Original one still looks good some very slight fading of the black roof but easily brought back with any automotive plastic renew product. The new one while well built does not seem as strong as older one.

I've had this mailbox for over 5 years... Maybe 10. It still looks great. The only issue i had was getting the lock in when assembling, and then it fell out a few years later. So happy with it overall, i just bought the matching benches. Yes there must have been some fading of the mailbox over the years, but the bench color is still almost exactly the same.

To replace original hit by car. Used without roof or front mailbox door as paper box base. Used the top off old Step2 MailMaster Deluxe mailbox without interior as cover for metal Security mailbox insert (Gibraltar Fairmont fits well) . We have this identical item for many years and the weather has taken its toll on the metal parts making it necessary to strike the lock mechanism with a hammer to turn the key.

I was so happy when I found this mailbox online. I have one and absolutely love it. It's one of my favorite things!!! So handy to use for those times when I'm going to be gone for a few days. No messing around with the post office. The installation was simple and it works great & withstands the harsh Chicago winters; couldn't be happier. Ordering one for a family member as a gift. Thank you Step 2!!

We travel frequently and got tired of having to inform the post office to hold mail for a couple of days. This way, the postman delivers the mail and we can easily retrieve mail when we get home. No more driving to the post office during business hours when we have other things to do. Convenient and weatherproof.

How does this work? Is there not a floor in the top section, where the postman puts the mail in, and it all drops to the bottom? Or does the postman put it in the bottom when the top gets full?
        A shopper on May 20, 2014
BEST ANSWER: This mailbox is so great. It has a floor in the upper part, just like a regular rural mailbox, BUT the floor is easily removal. It just lifts right off the rails that hold it. For regular use leave the floor in, BUT if you are going to be away for a few days or a while take the floor out and the mailman can put your mail in and it will drop to the bottom and stay safe until you return home. It holds a lot of mail !! We love our mailbox, it has made things much easier when we want to travel. When we take the floor off the top we just put it in the bottom of the mailbox so it is right there to put back in place when we get home. I highly recommend this creative mailbox !!
Is it possible to have this mailbox free-standing on a porch or does it need to be installed on a post? I have a large home, with the old, brittle asbestos siding that I do not want to attempt to drill holes for a conventional hanging mailbox. But I do have a large porch, out of the weather that it could sit on. Would this work?
        Bethann G on May 7, 2013
BEST ANSWER: The unit will sit upright on its own. Remember that this stands about 4 feet tall but only weighs about 6-7 pounds, so it needs some weight to keep it from being tipped easily. It does have a base that slips over the post that the whole assembly attaches too. I belive that it has a filler cap so you can fill the base with water/sand/concrete and it may be heavy enought to keep it upright in all conditions. Worse comes to worse you can always just put some bricks in the bottom and that may work too. There is a lot of space in the bottom section.
I live in the ORLANDO, FLOORIDA area. Can you tell me what retailer in my area carries the STEP 2 #531700 MAILMASTER STOREMORE MAILBOX.

I looked on your website and it listed some retailers that deal in Step 2 products, but they did not carry the mailbox I wanted.

Can you direct me to a retailer in the ORLANDO, FL area that has the product #531700 in stock and on display ??????

        Thank You, Joe
        Joe L on Jul 10, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, we do not have visibility into that level of detail. I will try to follow up internally and see if I am able to get further information, but at this point, my recommendation would be to call a Lowe's store or Ace Hardware if you have one in the area as they typically carry a full line of Step2 mailboxes.
Is there a way to add a newspaper box to this mailbox? Great that you can use it to store the mail when you are gone for a few days, however postal regulations do not let you use your mailbox for newspaper delivery. Has anyone else had a way to solve this problem?
        A shopper on Jun 11, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Sure! A seperately acquired newspaper box can be securely added by drilling holes and using bolts, washers and nuts to attach the separate unit to one side of the mailbox. Tightening the nuts inside the hollow column is done through the locking door or by lifting the bottom floor of the mail compartment. It can be done with just screws and not nuts, bolts and washers, but you asking for early failure.
Can mailbox be mounted with storage door facing to the front instead of the back ?
        Darlene T on Aug 14, 2013
BEST ANSWER: The answer is yes, you can mount the mailbox with the back facing the front, you would have to mount the 4X4 post according, ie the 4X4 would now be located further away from the street.
Can this mail box be painted to match color of my house?
        A shopper on Jul 19, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Absolutely. I used the special spray paint for plastics sprayed into containers and sponged it on in various shades of brown and gray to make mine look more like "natural" stone. It looks beautiful!
can the mailmaster be mounted on a metal post? My current mailbox is mounted on a 2" in diameter metal post which is surrounded by concrete.
        A shopper on Jun 18, 2013
BEST ANSWER: It could be done, but may be a bit difficult to modify, as the square hollowed out bottom of mailbox requires a 4" long block of wood be placed in ground & mailbox is placed over it & then bolted to the wood.
Do you need to add sand to the post ring? It has an access hole.
        Belinda S on Jul 12, 2014
BEST ANSWER: No you will need a 4" x 4" post. If you are installing on a sidewalk you will need to break the concrete for the post and then redo the concrete around it. If it is going into the ground dig a hole and secure it with concrete.
I live in the country in a high wind region. Can I have more than 24" of post above ground? If so, how much?
        Katie on Apr 6, 2014
BEST ANSWER: the mailbox is designed to be flush mounted with groundline but if you dont mind the appearance of a 4x4 post stick up higher than the mailbox that would not be a problem just not how it was designed though
i saw this box at a home in another color, brown with a red roof. where can i purchase?
        A shopper on Jan 20, 2014
BEST ANSWER: This is the only color option currently in production.
If the mailbox is mounted on a 4x4 wood post, how high can the 4x4 wood post be to obtain the most stability? How then is the mailbox bolted to the 4x4 wood post?
        clark w on Sep 1, 2013
BEST ANSWER: The wood post should be 4 feet high with 2 ft. below the ground and 2 ft. above ground. It is very important that the post stands no more than 24” above ground level. A bolt is used to secure the mailbox to the post.
