I was originally going to buy the gray model of this mailbox, but my husband talked me into the black one. I really like the look of it! The weekend my huband put the mailbox up a neighbor accidently hit it with his mirror. The top part of the mailbox poped off and the neighbor put it back together. It was good as new!!! I do feel that the outgoing mail flag sticks at times, but it is not a huge deal.

Comments about Step2 MailMaster® Wrought Iron Plus Mailbox:

I'm completely happy with this purchase. We had a wooden pole in the ground with the mailbox attached at the top. My husband had to cut it down a bit, but that was it. He found this very easy to install (even though he's not the handiest) and after a few months of use, it is still very sturdy and is held up against Superstorm Sandy and other storms nicely. No water in the mail slot at all.

Had one before that had the top knocked off at least 10 times by snowplows and I just put it back on and put new screws back in. This time a car drove off the road in a blizzard and took the everything out. Love this product. You should put information about how easy it is to replace box if it gets hit but post is still there.

Instead of using a post will it just sit sturdy on a porch? i was thinking of weighing down with some stone
        jeff w on Dec 11, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Sorry Jeff, I think that would just set you up for failure. What about putting a "post" inside the hollow column and then use lag bolts on the base to secure it to the porch. If you just 'weigh' it down with stones - a heavy package could topple it. AND if postman or anyone leaned on it for support.. . then fell... well you can imagine...
Thanks and I hope you get to enjoy yours.
Our Developer BETRAYED us - so my beautiful mailbox is installed but we have to use a CLUSTER BOX... URGH!!!!
I'm having trouble squeezing the base plug over my 4x4 pressure treated pine post, any advice?
        Gill L on Oct 20, 2013
        BEST ANSWER: Hi Gill,
Didn't answer right away because we hadn't installed it until Oct 27th, 2013.
We didn't have any problem. Did you cut it at 24" above ground? A 4 x 4 is actually slightly smaller than 4"x 4", we cut an existing post off at 24" and had no problem, it actually turned on the post until we put the anchoring screws in at the front and back.
After you slide this mailbox over the 4x4 post, do you then screw it securely to the post?
Or do you slide it on and that's it?
        A shopper on May 29, 2013
BEST ANSWER: You do have to screw it securely to the post. We have had it up over a year and we are very, very pleased. Even the snow plows this past winter didn't affect this mail box. We bought our neighbor one, so they match nicely side by side.
Are the numbers that come with it reflective?
        Karen W on Feb 23, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hello Karen, No they are not reflective. They are really cheap stickers but the mailbox is still great.
What are the interior dimensions of the mail box area itself. Is it capable of holding say a small package? We currently have a fairly large box so that the mailman can leave packages. Thank you ever so much!
        A shopper on Apr 25, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Here are the dimensions:
        18" length
        7" width
        8" height

Keep in mind it arches towards the top, so the dimensions are a little smaller there.
Anyone installed this over an existing metal support post? If so, how did you do it? Our metal support post is in concrete and we would really like to not have to remove it and replace with a wooden post.
        A shopper on Feb 19, 2014
BEST ANSWER: You secure the mail box with a hex head wood screw that attaches on the back side of the mailbox into the wooden post. Thus, if you can tap and drill into the metal post, or use a self tapping screw, it would definitely work. Unless your metal post exceeds the nominal 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" of the wooden post.
What is the coating on this mailbox and warranty on finish?
        Wendy C on Apr 17, 2015
BEST ANSWER: All Step2 MailMaster® Mailboxes come with a limited 3-year manufacturer's warranty.
can I get this style in walnut color?
        Lita G on May 19, 2013
BEST ANSWER: At this time, this mailbox is not available in the walnut color. The closest comparable mailbox in size and function available in walnut is the Mailmaster Plus Mailbox http://www.step2.com/p/MailMaster-Plus-Mailbox
