I bought this for my daycare. [...] the kids are still having a blast i put some moon sand in so they can mold and they love it! i have not used the water feature yet as it is just starting to warm up enough for wet kids outside! i do wish the umbrella could stay in when i put the lid on though, thats a bit annoying, but not a huge deal either.

Comments about Step2 Naturally Playful® Sand & Water Activity Center:

    1. One of the purposes of the lid is s you don't have to empty the table every time. However, because the umbrella sticks all the way up, you can't put the lid on UNLESS YOU DUMP EVERYTHING OUT and take off the umbrella. So what is the point of the lid? Useless....
    2. The table is two sided, and only one side can hold water. We didn't want to put sand in it because it is being used on a patio (we live in a city) so when you put water in both sides, it leaks straight the leg hole covers and empties in less than 5 minutes.
    3. When we called to explain the problems, we were ON HOLD FOR MORE THAN 25 MINUTES and gave up.

We are very disappointed with STEP 2 right now.

Comments about Step2 Naturally Playful® Sand & Water Activity Center:

We LOVE this sand/water table! We live at the beach so our daughter loves to collect "real sand" and seashells to add to her table! It was very easy to setup and the directions were super easy to read. The only issue we had was it took some elbow grease to screw in the leg screws however, you don't want those falling off or coming loose so we knew that it would be very tight and sturdy since we had to work a little harder to get them in. The colors are great, green and tan.. they actually match our porch chairs. I also loved the fact that it came with the umbrella AND a few sand toys! Sun protection is very important to us and even though we have it on our covered porch there are still a lot of sun rays that get in. My daughter doesn't complain that the sun is in her eyes ever. The table is set up for one side sand and the other side for water with little bridges and a mote for boats. We have used it that way and we have also used it with sand on both sides..We have also put beans and other sensory items in the compartments to get her imagination going! On the water side there is one little drain that seals very well but at times the water does leak out a tiny bit from the legs. So far this has not been an issue. Sophia absolutely loves it and so do her parents! Highly recommend!

This would be a great table if it actually held the water. I cannot figure out why the designer would put 4 unnecessary holes in a table that is SUPPOSED to hold water.

Comments about Step2 Naturally Playful® Sand & Water Activity Center:

After years of condo living, I promised myself that when we moved into a place with a backyard, I would buy my baby girl an outdoor water activity table. By the time we moved into a house with a backyard, my daughter was already a 3-and-a-half year-old preschooler! That meant that she was already too old/tall for most of the water/sand activity tables on the market, which are geared toward toddlers and 2 year-olds. Enter this Step2 Naturally Playful Sand & Water Activity Center, which is designed for kids from 2-6. It is perfect for our needs, and most importantly, my daughter loves it. The first time she played with it, she spent almost all day outside, totally engaged in playing with her water toys and building sand castles in her new water/sand activity table.

The only downside of this activity table is that it leaks. The gasket on one of the table legs doesn't fit into the water bin properly, which caused a small but steady stream of water to run down that leg until the water section of the table had lost about half of the water I put in it that morning. Not only is this a total waste of water, but it's also just downright irritating. And on top of that, because you have to secure the table legs with screws after installing them into the water/sand bin, it's impossible to easily adjust the legs & gaskets after installation to make them fit more tightly into the holes in the bin. This is a major design flaw by Step2 in an otherwise great product.

This sand and water play center was purchased for my 2 year old grandchild. He really enjoys it and his 8 year old brother plays well with him when using this toy. It does get a bit messy but that's part of what they like about it and it is easy to clean up. I can put uncooked rice it the sand side if I don't like the mess. Two drain holes would have made it easier to clean. I don't like that the legs fit into holes that go though the surface where the sand and water are.

We love this play table. The boys use it with or without water. The umbrella is a fantastic feature as well. Our only complaint is that the bungee cords broke within the first year. Otherwise, it has been a great toy!

Do you still have this in red & brown?
        Carla T on Apr 5, 2013
BEST ANSWER: We have the green and brown and I like it. Blends in well with our trees and grass.
We're enjoying the included accessories, but why no cars? The sand vehicles we have are too wide for its roads and, as you should know, girls need their cars (or anything with wheels). Anyone found some that work for this and work in sand too. There are lots of small cars for indoor use (e.g. wheelies, hot wheels), but the sand would ruin them. Step 2, add some cars to this!
        Elizabeth K on May 28, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I believe the width of the train is greater than 2 inches. It is plastic, however, so it would work in the sand without getting ruined. I have purchased some small cheap plastic motorcycles for my son at the store Five Below. I think that may be your best option and it is a really good idea. Thank you for letting us know of accessories that could make this more enjoyable for future purchasers.
Is there a drain plug on both sides of the table or just the water side?
        A shopper on Apr 20, 2013
BEST ANSWER: the plug is only on the water side. We had to calk it because it was dripping and the water did not stay in.
moreover: we had to secure the leg with screws, because with the weight of water and sand one of the leg became loose.
After these modification and corrections, our grandson and other children had a good use of the table.
How much sand does it hold, Trying to order KID SAFE SAND, but not sure how much to get?
        mkciwds on Sep 13, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Buy a 50lb bag of playground sand from Lowe's or Home Depot. It is enough to fill one side and have enough left over for a refill later on. Beware if you use water in the other side, kids inevitably decide to dump it all into the sand side creating mushy quicksand.
I was wondering how much water this table held? It is hard to tell from the picture but the water side doesn't look that big. I am trying to decide on a table for my daughter's birthday. Thank you!
        A shopper on Apr 4, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Really, having water on one side and a dry material on the other just doesn't work, practically speaking. Toddlers do not respect those boundaries! So, we fill both sides with water, which works great and there is plenty of room/ water for several children to play at the same time. We bought a few funnels, pitchers, watering cans, boats and our children are never ready to stop playing!
What is the point of Part I for the umbrella? The lid can't be put on with the umbrella locked in by this part.
        Curious on May 23, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Thanks Erin. It's part "i" and unfortunately has no name in the directions but Steve's description as a collar to stabilize the umbrella makes sense. It's a white plastic ring with a screw in it. I plan to put the cover on whenever the table is not in use, so the idea of using this collar to lock the umbrella in place doesn't make much sense to me. Steve's explanation of using it temporarily instead of as a permanent lock makes sense though. I also think it may just be unnecessary.
Can you put sand on both sides to make a bigger sandbox? Just wondering about the weight of the sand.
        Margie on Dec 5, 2014
BEST ANSWER: We put sand in both sides and it works best that way. The sand and water made a huge mess. My kids all love this sand box- we've had it for over a year now and all 4 of my children ages 3-9 play with it (well the 9 year old only plays with it when he's helping the younger ones but still he has fun). Not sure about the weight of the sand, but we dump a new bag in there about once every 3 months and I can move it one side at a time on my own- with help it's easy to move. I think we put 4 bags of sand in initially (but I can't remember the weight of the bags). Hope this helps.
Step 2: Where am I supposed to store the umbrella while not in use (when the cover is on the table)? We just got this today and the kids love it, but I can't see having to get the umbrella out of the garage everyday. Thanks!
        Elizabeth K on May 26, 2013
        BEST ANSWER: Hi Elizabeth,
I bought two of these for the early childhood dept. at our church. Unfortunately, I don't have a good answer for you about storage. We store all of them in a storage closet, with the umbrellas laying on a shelf in the closet. You may be able to buy an inexpensive outdoor umbrella cover and put it on while not in use either still attached to the table or detached and laying under the table while not in use. Just a thought.....
Hi, how does this table differ from the Adjustable Sand & Water Table that you sell? It is more expensive than the other table. Does it have additional features, is it a better table?
        A shopper on Jun 6, 2013
BEST ANSWER: These were the two we were choosing between too. If you look closely, the legs on the adjustable table take up space, whereas the naturally allows sand/water/play on top of the legs and to the edge. Also, I think the measurements were a couple inches larger each direction too. And, the naturally umbrella is 60" and adjustable only 40". These are two big reasons we chose the naturally. Plus, the adjustable only adjust 4", with a top height only 2" higher than the naturally, so they're both short enough we'll probably get some little stools to use with it. I hope this helps!
Does the sand have to dry out completely before replacing the cover to avoid bacterial growth? Just wondering how others manage to do this since my daughter loves to play with wet sand to make castles etc
        A shopper on May 2, 2013
BEST ANSWER: As this is being used in Seattle with lots of rain we used small pebbles not sand , this has worked well . We did have sand in for a while but with group play it went everywhere , the small rocks drain well so no problems.
could you tell me which one of the replacement umbrellas will fit this table?

Do i need a drill to setup this as the place given for legs dont have any holes??
        Silka on Apr 27, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Our screws are self tapping screws that are able to go through the plastic. You may need to start them with a hammer. Please follow the instructions or find the indents in the plastic to line up the screws correctly. We do this in an effort to ensure that no shavings inadvertently are left over in the box as a result of pre-drilling. These shavings could pose a choking hazard to little ones.
Hi there, I was just wondering if you post to Australia? Thanks
        Lisa J on Nov 24, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Step2 Direct does not ship to addresses outside of the 48 contiguous United States. The following is the Step2 product retailer in Australia: www.step2direct.com.au
There is water inside the table. Moving the table, I can hear it moving around. I removed the two drain plugs on the bottom, Tipping the table toward either end will drain. However, since the drains are not at the ends of the table, there is a accumulation of water at the ends. Laying the table flat doesn't work either. How do you complete drain the water from inside the table?
        Thanks
        Vincent K on Jul 20, 2014
BEST ANSWER: If your product is accumulating water, you can drill a ¼ hole on bottom away from any seam line, tip it and this should drain out the water. If you have additional questions about this process please call toll free 1-800-347-8372 Monday - Friday, from 8-5 ET and we will be happy to assist you.
Hi -- is there a way to ensure the umbrella does not fly out? It is very windy where I live and the umbrella has lifted out of the stand and blown away. Thanks so much.
        Tammy R on Jul 15, 2014
BEST ANSWER: We do offer a locking collar to help avoid umbrellas from flying away. The locking collar can be ordered by calling us toll free at 1-800-347-8372 Monday-Friday between 8-5 EST.
How tall are the legs on this product?
        Shanna K on Apr 20, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The legs are 11" tall. The table itself is 18 1/2" from the floor to the top of the table (without the lid).
I would like to know if you sell taller legs for the Naturally Playful Sand and Water Table. We bought it for our daughter last summer and she loves to play with it still, however, she is getting tall and could reach it easier if it could be heightened somehow. Do you make/sell any legs that are comparable with this table and would let us adjust the height?
        Caisy G on Mar 3, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Caisy, unfortunately the legs that originally come with this water table are the only legs compatible with it.
A recent storm snapped both ties on the lid so there is no way for us to play with the sandbox and leave it out overnight. What a pain it is to drag in to our garage each and every time! Is there anyway for us to get replacement ties or is there something else that you could suggest to fix the problem? Thanks!
        A shopper on Dec 10, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Sorry to hear that. Yes! You can purchase replacement ties through our Customer Service Department. Please call toll free 1-800-347-8372 Monday - Friday, from 8-5 ET and we will be happy to assist you with this request.
I bought this table second hand in Perth, Australia. I have no idea where it was initially purchased. It does not have any accessories. I want to buy the accessory pack - where can i order this from?

What is difference in size between this and the Adjustable Sand & Water table?
        Harry M on Jul 9, 2013
BEST ANSWER: No the legs are not adjustable. There is a little water leakage, if you don't tighen the drain enough.
I don't know the difference in the two tables.
