We purchased this swing set in June 2012. We wanted to get my son, who was 20 months old at the time, some outdoor toys for the summer. I did EXTENSIVE research online for plastic play toys for toddlers and eventually I narrowed it down to the little tykes adventure gym and this set. This set was a little cheaper and it had all of the same features as the little tykes one.
My husband and my dad put it together in about an hour, not hard, but you will need more than one person. You do need to drill some of the plastic holes a bit more but it really is no big deal. I was a little concerned that my son would be too small to climb the ladder but we showed him how to a few times and he was fine. There are handles on the side of the play house to help little ones pull themselves up to the platform. The set is sturdy, and durable. It is easy to clean. The slide actually goes pretty fast. We were worried that it would be less fun for our kids since it was a smaller slide, but it is fine. We did add two baby swings 9( have an infant too) and they hooked on easily. I do wish that these smaller sets came with at least one baby swing. Like I said, I researched EVERY plastic and some metal sets out there and this was what we bought and I am very happy with our purchase. My son plays on it every time we go out in the yard and that is what I hoped would happen!
I will note that this is a Toddler set. I would not recommend this to kids who are over about 7 years old. When our kids are older we will upgrade to a wooden set but for now this is perfect.

I read many reviews that said the same thing and I was hoping this wouldn't happen to us - but we finally received the swing-set after three weeks of waiting, and it was missing directions, all screws and bolts and any tools it comes with to assemble. Right now it is in pieces on our lawn. Very disappointing and hard to explain to a 2 year old! I know it's a mistake and it does not affect the quality of the set itself, I suppose it's more of a customer-service issue. Otherwise looks ok - definitely smaller in person than what I was expecting from the picture. Step2 - take your customers' comments into consideration and pay more attention to what you are and are not sending us!!

Comments about Step2 Play Up Gym Set™:

Directions not that clear mostly pictures that are too enlarged to tell. All bags should be opened and laid out in order before starting. Took one person 4 hrs. Hope the ropes on swings stretch over time as they are too short for 3 yr. old to reach the seat by themselves. The steering wheel is a little tight to turn. The ladder & slide is great for my 2 yr. old climber.

Comments about Step2 Play Up Gym Set™:

As a Step2 Ambassador, we received this swing set at no cost to facilitate a review.

This swing set was pretty easy to assemble, although it did take about 2 hours or so. It could be done with one person, but if you have 2 it will be even easier.

I love that it is sturdy plastic and I don't have to worry about splinters or rust.

My kids could swing for hours on this. They love it and have so much fun on this set. I also love that it combines a little clubhouse and the slide too. My son pretends it is his pirate ship and loves to play in there.

It is a smaller-sized swing set, great for toddlers (with the addition of a baby swing), preschoolers, and children under age 6 (maybe a little older if you have petite kids like mine).

If you're looking for a swing set that can stand up to the weather and a beating from your kids, this one is perfect!

Comments about Step2 Play Up Gym Set™:

Thank you to Step2 for letting me test this product as part of the Step2 Ambassador program!

As soon as I saw the Play Up Gym Set, I knew my 32 month old toddler would love it. He loves playing on the swings at our local park and I knew this set would be fantastic to have in our own yard for outdoor play.

We have many Step2 products so I figured the construction and materials would be great and I was right. It took me and my dad about 4 hours to assemble the set. It was definitely manageable for two people, but I thought the directions could have been clearer. They're mostly drawings with not much descriptive text, and there are a lot of small washers and different sized screws that are easy to confuse - so just pay careful attention during assembly to be sure you're using the right ones at the right time.

The set comes with 4 stakes to secure the Play Up Gym Set into the ground, but it's not so massive of a unit that it couldn't be moved around the yard if you needed to. This is a great feature to me, especially living in Florida where hurricanes can hit. We can just remove the stakes and move the set into the garage if necessary.

The set is perfectly sized for toddlers to 6 year olds and there are plenty of things to do (climbing steps, steering wheel to turn, slide, crawl space underneath the slide, and swings). The set comes with 2 regular swings, but if you have a child that's on the smaller side (or a younger child) you might want to consider getting an additional Infant to Toddler Swing that's compatible with this set and also available on the Step2 website.

Overall, we're very pleased with this set. It's high-quality and I know it will last for years to come, through multiple children.

Comments about Step2 Play Up Gym Set™:

We had spent a decent amount of time researching swing sets but I had a hard time justifying the spending of close to $500 for something that was going to sit in my backyard baking in the sun for 4 months only to be brutalized by 8 months of Buffalo winters. We purchased this second hand off of Craigslist and were told that they had used it extensively for about 3 years. When we went to pick it up, I was shocked to see what good shape it was in. For what I paid for it and after 3 years of use, I was expecting it to be in rough shape. We strapped it to the roof of our car and headed home… On the driven we lost a piece off of the roof. It bounced in the middle of a pretty busy street and went flying onto someones lawn. My heart sank and I knew there was no way it survived the crash and that I had just wasted my money. We parked the car, got out and went to retrieve it… We were expecting the worst but found that this thing didn't even have a scratch on it. It fell off the roof of my moving car and did not have a scratch on it. Congrats Step 2… you just won't a durability award in my book. We brought it home and put it together. It took a while because we didn't have the instructions but we found them online after thinking we could wing it, and failing miserably. We added baby swings in place of the older kid swings and my kids loved it. We used this at least every day far into the fall and if I am feeling adventurous, I will pull the swings out of the garage and hook them up for the kids to snow swing. The best thing about this thing is how weather resistant this is. Im not sure what Step 2 uses to prevent sun fading but compared to our Little Tikes products that live in the yard as well, the Step 2 stuff looks almost new while the paint from our Little Tikes toys is faded and looks really old after one season. This swing set has survived a summer and a full winter in our possession, a terrible tumble off the roof of my car and 3 years in someone else's backyard but you would never know it. The quality of this pieces is second to none and my kids love it.
