We purchased this swing set in June 2012. We wanted to get my son, who was 20 months old at the time, some outdoor toys for the summer. I did EXTENSIVE research online for plastic play toys for toddlers and eventually I narrowed it down to the little tykes adventure gym and this set. This set was a little cheaper and it had all of the same features as the little tykes one.
My husband and my dad put it together in about an hour, not hard, but you will need more than one person. You do need to drill some of the plastic holes a bit more but it really is no big deal. I was a little concerned that my son would be too small to climb the ladder but we showed him how to a few times and he was fine. There are handles on the side of the play house to help little ones pull themselves up to the platform. The set is sturdy, and durable. It is easy to clean. The slide actually goes pretty fast. We were worried that it would be less fun for our kids since it was a smaller slide, but it is fine. We did add two baby swings 9( have an infant too) and they hooked on easily. I do wish that these smaller sets came with at least one baby swing. Like I said, I researched EVERY plastic and some metal sets out there and this was what we bought and I am very happy with our purchase. My son plays on it every time we go out in the yard and that is what I hoped would happen!
I will note that this is a Toddler set. I would not recommend this to kids who are over about 7 years old. When our kids are older we will upgrade to a wooden set but for now this is perfect.

Comments about Step2 Play Up Gym Set™:

Assembly of this item is no more difficult than any assemble-yourself item you may find at home (i.e. furniture). I would not say it is easy, but the difficulty of assembly is well within reason. The instructions are typical assemble-yourself instructions: a lot of pictures requiring a little logical interpretation. I am a regular guy with moderate experience assembling items in the home and I literally assembled this by myself in four hours at a leisurely pace. If you do not meet my basic experience level, then perhaps you will have greater difficulty. If you meet or exceed my basic experience level, then you will find little problem assembling this item.

This product is used for my 16 month old daughter who absolutely loves to swing but is a little small for the park a block down the street. This play gym fits nicely in the yard without taking up too much space and is a great private park area for my daughter.

Mary C: There is no park near my granddaughter's house and I felt she needed something to play on outdoors. Step2 products are great! Apr 26, 2013
Patricia C: Absolutely love this set! Grandaughter who is almost 2 really enjoys it and it will be with her for a long time as she grows.. Apr 14, 2013

Tanisha A: The age range for this set is 3-6, and I bought it right before my twins turned 6. Unfortunately, neither of them were able to stand fully upright inside the little hut, which I measured at about 42" floor to ceiling. At the same time, neither of them were tall enough to get into the swings by themselves, either.

I would say that the upper age of 6 is overly generous for this set, and to be prepared to either buy longer rope for the swings or to help your little one get in and out of the swings every time.

Annette D: I can't answer about Florida sun, as we live in NY, but ours has been up for a year and it looks great. Our son loves it! It's been up through a hot summer, a snowy winter, and a lot of rainy days. I haven't noticed any fading, and we took the swings in for the winter (we also have a separately purchased infant swing for now). Last summer I had to remove the beginnings of what I think was an intended bee or wasps' nest on the underside of the "canopy", which I'll be checking again this year. Nothing to do with the set itself, of course, but worth mentioning since I'm writing about it. Good luck! Apr 26, 2013

                hope this helps,

cindy h: Yes, we removed one swing and put up a baby swing. It is very easy to do. My only complaint is the clubhouse part where they can climb up to the slide or play with the steering wheel. The steering wheel is hooked onto a bar, so it's open on the top and bottom. My son, when he was 1.5 years old, leaned over the steering wheel bar and fell over the top. When he landed he must have hit his head because he had a grass stain. I took hom to the doctor as I was scared to let him nap. He could have been hurt really badly, but we got lucky and he was not. Wish th was a solid wall without openings. Other than that, I've been happy with it. Apr 7, 2013

Now, our 7 month old son uses our daughter's old swing, while his sister had upgraded to the original "big girl" swing. I still have the second swing in my garage as a back up. Apr 7, 2013

And was wondering how it stand up if it has to be dug in the ground cuz with it not being our house I don't want to lawn to be ruined when we leave. Thanks!! Apr 10, 2013

Dennis V: I would not totally disassemble it if you don't need to. Perhaps removing the top vertical bar would be enough, and then you could transport the playhouse and the opposite A-shaped piece. Maybe you can also detach the slide from the playhouse.

You don't need to dig into the ground other than the 4 metal u-shaped stakes you should hammer into the soil.

The grass underneath the unit will likely need to be re-seeded or new sod put in, but that's no big deal.

Jennifer L: The set is actually set into the ground with stakes. When I had it installed the tech said it would be fairly easy to pull the stakes up to move it. We will be moving in about a month or so and will know for sure then. I do not believe it will ruin the lawn. Apr 24, 2013
