Having owned the original Whisper Ride I can say that this new version keeps all of the things we loved and adds a bunch of great new features like:

-A trunk that prevents little fingers from getting stuck in the hood
-Extra cup holders for the child to keep both a snack and a drink at hand
-A great parent cup holder that swivels to prevent spills
-A wider body to extend the life of the car (my almost 4 year old wouldn't get out)
-An easy to stow handle so traveling with this in your car is feasible and quick.

Assembly took about 20 minutes including the "help" of the 4 year old so alone it probably would have taken 15 minutes. The directions are pretty clear and mostly pictures. The Whisper Ride II feels sturdy and like the older model, the tires make it a one of a kind ride on toy.

If you're debating about whether to spend a little extra money to have this model versus one without the Whisper Wheels let me say that you will not regret the expense. These tires eliminate the very loud sound of plastic scraping against pavement and make for a smoother ride for your child.

I am part of the Step2 Test Drive Mom program and I was sent the Whisper Ride II to facilitate a review however I had already purchased one as a gift for a family member because this is truly a great toy which I will continue to gift because it makes an awesome first birthday present!

When I took this out of the box, I couldn't help but feel disappointed in how flimsy the plastic was. I think my 30 lb two-year-old would have caved it in a day. I spent two full hours assembling this silly thing. Get to the last step, attaching the black handle, and the knob that engages the screw on the back of the car was about an inch too low to reach the screw. I tried several adjustments and no matter what, couldn't get the dang knob to engage the screw so the handle would be fixed. I'm returning this hunk of junk and I suggest anybody considering buying this thing buy it used. It will already be assembled and you will be paying what it's worth, $5-$10 worth of cheap, flimsy plastic.

Comments about Step2 Whisper Ride II:

Steering wheel column tends to pop out of the holder slot.
The rest of the assembly was well planned and easy to accomplish.
Would like to have a sun roof addition to make it more useful on a sunny day.

It looks fun, since she wants to ride her trike with the older kids, but she's too young to peddle. I thought this would be perfect for walks, and shopping instead of a stroller. This is like a fun ride for her, plus it has a seat belt, cup holders for her AND me, & a trunk to keep stuff in! So its basically a fun stroller, plus its a smooth ride ~ whisper ride wheels. Mary V: Hi,

We didn't have an issue with the steering wheel. We did however have to return it and get a replacement since we couldn't get the wheel covers to hammer in place. The replacement vehicle was fine. Hopefully they can just send you a replacement part for the steering issue. Hope this helps.

Treva H: My husband followed the instructions & he assembled the
WR II in 15-20 minutes. He did say the steering wheel took more time to lock in place. Took more muscle & I believe he had to use a hammer as well!

          Milena D: Hello Angela!
The bottom is closed. You will have to push your kid in this car. My son loves it! And when we go to the playground all kids want to seat in it.

Jenee S: I've never seen the easy steer sportster until you mentioned it - looks like the newer version of this one? It would be neat to have the caster wheel on the other one if it retracts on its own over rough terrain (would be a pain if I had to change it each time). But I do love this one and am very happy with it - the best improvement with this is the whisper wheels! The older ones had loud wheels like a cozy coupe - EVERYONE in the neighborhood could hear you coming in that! If I need to turn this one in a sharp turn I just pop a wheelie and turn (son giggles and asks to do it again). This is also very roomy .... My son is now 3 1/2 and rides it even more than he use to. It's great to fold handle and travel (fits in the seat easily so the dog can still sit in the cargo space of our Honda crv). We even took this hiking with us on bumpy terrain and although bumpy, it handled it just fine! Helped my son have more patience as well as he was entertained "driving" it. Maybe there's a local toys r us or store you can call to see if you can test it out vs the new speedster? May 7, 2013

Feiga M: I think the easy steer sportsterdoes not have enough room for the feet and the steering wheel is too close. I would go with whisper ride II. My grandson loves it and he is a big boy, too. He seems to be very comfortable May 7, 2013

Jaime L: The dimensions on the easy steer sportster say that that one is longer. Probably should go for that one since it will allow for more leg room. This one is bigger than the red push buggy. My very big 2 yr old girls hardly fit the red buggy. Wish I got this one for them. I didn't make the same mistake when I got it for their cousins. Gary B: Sorry, the 2 strollers were for our grandchildren and they and the instructions are there now. The only part that I received in the package, that wasn't part of the final assembly, was a plastic piece which was used put under the axle so the second nut could be tapped ( hammered ) onto the shaft. After doing that, it was just thrown away. I did find that somewhat confusing when assembling the first unit. Not sure if this was part K or not Jun 5, 2013

A shopper asked: Does the handle come off? I see that it "folds under for transport", but I'm not sure what this means - when it is folded under, can the child ride on the car, or is the handle in the way? I'm wondering if, as my baby grows, he'll be able to ride on it without us having to push using the handle. Apr 4, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Feiga M: The handle folds under so you can put it in the car or trunk. You cannot ride with the handle folded under. It is strictly for easier transportation.
No, the child will NOT be able to ride by himself without you pushing the car. He will be able to push it himself, which all kids love to do.

My grandson LOVES this car. The only way to go out for a walk with him. When he gets tired walking he will not sit in the stroller but gladly in this car

Jenee S: No the handle doesn't remove completely just folds under for loading in the car or easier to store. It isn't they type to ride by themself like a cozy coupe is. My 3 year old still LOVES this and pushing it or being pushed. I like how it loads in Honda crv easy and we can take for over hikes with us. Apr 5, 2013

Allison A: The handle is not removable, but can be folded underneath. THis car is not suitable if you are looking for something that your child can ride in by themselves without the help of someone pushing them. The floorboard is not removable and would make it impossible for them to push themselves. May 22, 2013
