In-Pool Furniture 

Cleaning & Maintenance Guide 

Thank you for choosing Step2 for your in-pool furniture. Maintaining proper pool chemistry and periodically flushing any water-filled cavities are the most effective methods for preventing algae growth and maximizing the life and appearance of your in-pool resin furniture. 

 

Routine Care 

We recommend inspecting and cleaning your furniture every 2–4 weeks during the pool season. Cleaning should be even more frequent for use in high traffic commercial settings. A well-balanced pool chemistry paired with regular cleaning will help to prevent algae and biofilms from growing on the interior and exterior of your pool furniture. 

Regular Cleaning 

  1. Remove the furniture from the pool and drain any water inside the furniture. Check all drains, fill, or vent openings. Draining and refilling your pool furniture periodically is important because, when contained, chlorine in standing water will dissipate over time – increasing the risk of algae and biofilm development.  
  1. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water. A pressure washer may be used but be sure to adjust pressure and/distance to avoid damaging the product. 
  1. Wash using:  

o   Mild dish soap  

o   Warm water  

o   Soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge  

o   For tough stains we recommend a melamine foam eraser sponge.

  1. Rinse completely and allow it to dry. Rinsing surfaces thoroughly after using cleaners or solvents is important to avoid interactions with your pool’s chemistry. 
  1. Refill the product with freshly treated pool water if used in your pool’s ledge. 
  1. Regular brushing of the tanning ledge and surrounding pool surfaces will also help prevent algae accumulation. 
  1. Consult a pool chemical expert for advice on balancing your pool’s chemistry. 

 

Cleaning Algae from Furniture 

To clean algae on the interior: 

  1. Drain all existing water.  
  1. Fill the cavity with a solution of:  

o   1 part household bleach  

o   10 parts water  

o   WARNING: Never mix bleach with other pool chemicals or cleaners. 

  1. Allow solution to remain for 15–30 minutes.  
  1. Rotate furniture to contact all internal surfaces.  
  1. Drain completely.  
  1. Flush several times with fresh water. Rinsing surfaces thoroughly after using cleaners or solvents is important to avoid interactions with your pool’s chemistry. 
  1. Return to pool and fill with freshly treated water only after thorough rinsing.  

 

To clean algae on the exterior: 

  1. Remove, rinse, and drain your furniture. 
  1. Create a diluted bleach mixture: 

o   For mild growth mix: 1 gallon warm water & ¼ cup household bleach  

o   For heavy growth mix: 1 gallon warm water & 1 ½ cups household bleach 

o   WARNING: Never mix bleach with other pool chemicals or cleaners. 

  1. Apply using a soft sponge.  
  1. Allow solution to sit for 5-15 minutes depending on the severity of the growth.  
  1. Gently scrub. Use a nylon brush for tough spots. 
  1. Rinse thoroughly. Rinsing surfaces thoroughly after using cleaners or solvents is important to avoid interactions with your pool’s chemistry. 

 

Removing Calcium Scale & Hard Water Marks 

White deposits may appear in areas with hard water. 

Cleaning Procedure 

  1. Mix equal parts:  

o   White vinegar  

o   Water  

  1. Apply to affected areas.  
  1. Allow to sit for 5–10 minutes.  
  1. Wipe with a soft cloth.  
  1. Rinse thoroughly.  
  1. Repeat as necessary. 

 

Seasonal Storage 

If furniture will not be used for an extended period: 

  1. Remove from pool.  
  1. Clean thoroughly.  
  1. Drain all internal water.  
  1. Allow to dry completely.  
  1. Store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight.  

Avoid storing furniture with standing water trapped inside.

Damage resulting from: 

  • Improper pool chemistry  
  • Chemical misuse  
  • Failure to drain trapped water  
  • Algae or biological growth caused by lack of maintenance  

is not considered a manufacturing defect and may not be covered under warranty.
