Fell down on the execution.

"I wanted barrels with thicker bottoms, which these have, and the stand looked appealing. However, the design is lacking for any overflow and connecting multiple barrels, because they just put hollow tapered nubs that we have to drill out and somehow secure tubing to, with no way to anchor such tubing. Not even a ridge. Don't think that a hose clamp will work on this tapering bit of plastic, its Just kind of lame. Single barrels will not capture all of the water from a big event, i currently have 2 on each downspout (old ones now have holes in bottoms). The overflow cant even be diverted away from house with such a feeble way of attaching tubing. Disappointing for this high price point. Shame because the plastic is thick, i like the rectangular footprint and stand, and this could have been such a nice solution."

NO holes drilled for the screws.

"The rain barrel is sturdy and I like the fact that the spigot is brass, but the screen on top came with screws and screw holes, yet the plastic does not have any screw holes, thus the screws had nothing to screw into. Do I have to drill holes into the plastic at the top of the rain barrel? HOw easy would it have been for the manufacturers to drill the holes for the screws????"

It combines functionality (raised for dispensing and larger capacity than most at 60 gallons) and aesthetics (perfect color and attractive for the front of our home without being all fancy). "The rain barrel is sturdy and the plastic is substantial. When filled with water it does not bulge or leak. The stand is great. I can position a watering can under the spigot to fill. I wish the company would also make a drinking water storage container similar to this but with food safe plastic."

Like it but….

"While we like our new Lakewood rain barrel it has a spigot issue. We’re not sure what the problem is! Step 2 sent us a replacement barrel & spigot since the first one would not screw in flush to the barrel. Well, the second spigot doesn’t either. So do we use it “as is” and hope the spigot works ok and doesn’t leak? I’m not sure what we’re going to do. We won’t know if it’ll leak until after we’ve had a good rain. Ugh. 🌧️"

Nice unit but problem spigot

"Another reviewer noted that they had an issue with the spigot not totally screwing into the unit. That was our experience too. I contacted Step 2 and they sent us a new barrel and spigot. However, we experienced the same issue. Not knowing what to do, we went ahead and installed the rain barrel “as is. ” Time will tell if the spigot leaks. As far as the rain barrel itself, minus the spigot issue, the unit installs easily. And with its flat back sits flush against an exterior wall. Also, the mesh screen is perfect to keep out bugs and debris. I’d give the rain barrel 5 stars but only 3 stars due to the spigot issue."

Q&A

My stand started buckling under the weight of the barrel. Should I fill with sand or water to stop this? It was set up correctly and is level.

do I have to take the barrel in during winter
